Detailed Reviews
Loved this place, easy to book and communication was great. Not far from the hospital which is why we were here, the room we got was room one, double bed in one room and 3 single beds in the 2nd room and bunk bed in the lounge. Place was nice and spacious if the couch was a bed couch could fit 8 in there. the bathroom and toilet were close to the back door and the kitchen was nice size too. The beds were absolutely comfy as so soft and clean and warm. The heaters are the older type so lucky my dad was there he knew how to turn them on otherwise we would not have known but the whare was nice and warm all night Thank you. we made use of the hot pools my nephew said they were nice and hot. we also used the hangi pit OMG, that was the best putting the kai on when we got there and 3hours later it was ready and dripping off the bone. Take your own roasting tray and foil or hire from the office for $10 or your ID. Can also get a spade for $10hire to go and dig your own hot water spa on the beach, not to far away either. Overall give this place a big thumbs up, could be a little pricey for families on a budget but in saying that they do have bunk rooms down the end there just up stairs which was a bit to hard for my dad and his mobility. Otherwise a great place overall.
Look forward to going back.
Maybe one hoha was the swipe card cause there were two families we had to pass the swipe card around.

Cosy Cottage is as great place for a family, the spa pools are clean, the lake is a 2 minute walk away and you can dig your own hot water on the shores of the lake. The rooms are warm and the showers are lovely, great heat and great pressure.
Angela has great customer service and really made me feel welcome on the last visit, I have been using Cosy Cottage for a few years now and Angela is a welcoming host.

Of the 6 parks we stayed at in nz, this wasn’t my favourite.
You had to search for the facilities (only found the hot pools as we were leaving); the kitchen was only open for limited times AND they wanted payment for using the oven!!!; the $10 deposit for DVDs was each dvd (very weird as they were very very old); $40 deposit on the table tennis bats (which we didn’t have at the time); the walk to the lake was completely flooded and our shoes got soaked; a few showers and toilets were closed (read a review 2mths ago and same); internet was free for one night only; it was just a bit too rustic.
Big love to the lady who had cats for us to pat

Hi Julie, we're very sorry you had a hard time finding the facilities. They are all marked on the map handed out at check-in. Our receptionist additionally explained the location of everything to your organiser because you came with a group. This winter has been wetter than usual, flooding several paths in Rotorua's public parks. If you come back in the summer, the path should be dry most of the time. It is actually a council reserve and we aren't able to do anything about its condition, sorry about that. In low season we open showers and toilets sufficient for our number of guests. Security deposit for borrowed items can also be a drivers' licence or bank card - it's only to ensure our items are returned. We are a rustic style camp and this is what many of our guests come back for again and again. We will thank the cats for you!

This Holiday Park was not what I was expecting. It does now look anything like the photos online. We booked out a little unit which was on top of other units. At night time it was very loud when people walked past your room. The bedding and interior of the units was very poor. The beds were springy and weren't even made when we arrived, we had to make our own. The interior was very run down with broken handles off the windows and dirty curtains let alone the dirty microwave and kitchen.
The toilets and the showers weren't very nice either they smelt and had mold around. The showers were very dirty on the ground and the toilets were not clean for our arrival. Next the wifi, on the website it says you get 300MB of wifi per day, firstly if you are paying a lot of money to stay you would think the least that they could do is give you unlimited and secondly make sure it works!!! Multiple times I got disconnected and wasn't able to connect back. It was very slow and not good at all.
The track to the hot water beach was very muddy and run down. Obviously the Holiday park cant do anything about the weather, but I think in the future they could build a track and make it more inviting to the guests.
I think the only thing that is good at Cosy Cottage is there thermal pools, there were hot and looked some what clean. Also the fact that they empty and then refill them each day reassured me. They had a good selection of temperatures and they were run by the thermal Heat underground which is cool. Also the Hangi cooker was cool too, we didn't use it though because it looked very grubby and dirty. I think if you have awesome facilities like that, make sure that they are clean so that people will use it more often.
Overall I do not think it is worth the money. Save it a go somewhere else.

Hey there, thanks for staying with us. Sounds like you stayed at a time when all the rooms were booked - we wish you had told us the neighbours were noisy outside, so we could ask them to be quiet. The double bed would have been made up, and extra bedding given for the other beds if you booked for more than 2 people after our housekeepers finished for the day. We would appreciate if you let us know the booking number so we can check the cleaning records for that date. If you let us know about any problems during your stay we would be glad to sort it out straight away. The track and beach are public council land, so we're not allowed to upgrade the track ourselves. The wifi is provided by an external company who set the conditions, and speed may vary at busy times. Glad you enjoyed our natural thermal pools!

Sorry in advance - it's a bit of a rant.
We haven’t stayed here. This is about a booking for March 2023.
I don't normally write about bad service. This is only the second time I have done so and only after trying to fix the problem dealing with the place directly, but because they are unwilling to engage, I have put this review out. I have asked outright for them to acknowledge my email but they are remaining silent.
Booked (8th Feb) to stay here for one night on our way to visit friends at Mahia Peninsula, Hawkes Bay Area. Since the booking the cyclone and flooding have happened so we had to cancel (17th Feb) our trip to the north island, as the primary reason for the trip was to stay at Mahia with friends. We just threw a night in Wellington and Rotorua in on the way. Cosy cottage did not refund any of the money saying it was less than 30 days notice. How can I give 30 days notice when I only booked this 9 days before I had to cancel and March is not peak season. I cancelled giving them 20 days notice. I know storms etc are not their fault and was happy with the $25 cancellation fee thinking that was what the deal was, but NO they kept $160! They seem to only answer emails after 10.30 at night which makes me think they don't want to deal with it. I have asked if they aren't willing to refund the money, can they at least reinstate the booking... this is so I can gift a night to a couple who have had a hard time with the cyclone and flooding. Someone may as well have a night away. I find Cosy cottages behaviour GREEDY. Everyone else was understanding and kept their refund policy's reasonable. I don't care if this is a nice place or not. I won't be rebooking to find out. I will be telling friends, family, colleagues etc NOT to book with cosy cottage, there are A LOT of other places to spend their money.

There is a charge to use the oven and the hot water jug is broken. The kitchen closes at 9pm. Showers fairly dirty. 2 toilets broken. There is a $12 charge per child even if you just book a power site and if its only kne adult for power site they charge for 2 adults.

We really enjoyed the hot pools which was really convenient during the rainy weather. They were clean and a range of temperatures. The bathrooms were great, the shared kitchen was basic but entirely usable. We didn't try the steam oven or lake dig but will when we come for a return trip. It was great to have the reassurance of a paved site with the amount of rain, however the paved site spaces are small. We were lucky that our motorhome is 6.9 metres (smaller than most) The reception staff were very helpful and friendly in person and by email. Our only downside was being parked too close to a permanent resident, creating a lack of privacy and a fire safety hazard should one of us have a fire.

Hi Kerry, thanks so much for your review! We're glad you enjoyed the natural hot pools and we do hope you will come back to try the geothermal steam oven. Our powered sites were all completely booked during your stay, which means you would have a neighbour on both sides. Our unpowered/unpaved sites are smaller and better suited to tents or small vans. Thank you for understanding that the sites were laid out long ago when vehicles were smaller - however our powered sites can fit motorhomes up to 7.5 metres for sure and maybe 8 metres in a pinch. We look forward to seeing you again.

Loved the campervan/suv overnight parking area at the back. Double park separated by tall trees (bushes) to give some privacy. Individual pin provided for entry/exit. Quiet and respectful of 9 pm quiet. Office hours 9-10 am & 2-6 pm. Gates are closed outside of office hours. Onsite laundry, large fully equipped kitchen, hot tubs (we never used but those who were seemed to enjoy). 300 mg free wifi!!

We have stayed many times over the years and this is the first review I have made.
We have tented, stayed in many room options as well as the self contained stand alone cottages and this visit we were in a motorhome, and yet again thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
For us it is the close vicinity to the city (without traffic noise), access to the lake a couple of mins through private accessway, thermal pools, kai steamer, clean facilities and grounds and lovely staff that keeps us coming back.
Thank you again to Cosy Cottage staff, we will be back!

We booked the two bedroom cabin and it was actually better than the photos online looked. Beds were comfy, kitchenette was clean and useful and included basic utensils. The park was good for walking around with our toddler who just needed to be outside. Wished we had stayed longer to be able to cook our own Hangi meal in the steamer. The facilities are what you’d expect for the prices but suited us perfectly!
