Christin welcomed us super friendly, the double room was just like we needed it and the bathrooms as well as the kitchen are super clean & tidy. There’s even a pool, which is really cool. WiFi worked as it should ;-) If you’re searching for a place to stay in Rotorua, that’s the right address!
My friend and I stayed in a "7 bed mixed dorm ensuite". It felt like a small 2-brm unit and two bunks were in the main living area of this unit (one of which we occupied) and the other two bedrooms probably has the other beds/bunks. Although it was a "mixed" space, we were given the feeling that the operators thoughtfully placed the guests - both our nights we were sharing with female compatriots which was really nice of them. The kitchen is quite small but there are TWO of them. It was also really nice to speak to Anika (I hope I remembered her name correctly) at the front guest - she has lots of tips for the area and even gave us discount coupons for Polynesia spa.
When we first got there, contrary to the email saying we could check in at 10, we had to wait until 12:30 to check in. Thankfully, we could leave our stuff in the “lobby” but they wouldn’t let us keep it behind the desk so we had to hope for the best. Later, when we were preparing to go to sleep, we found a bed bug in one bed. We only found one but that was one too many. We brought it outside and told them the next morning, because there was no one to help at night. They were very nice the next day and said they would take care of it but (thankfully) we were only staying for one night. Ultimately, the place was cute and nice, I just wouldn’t stay there again.
I liked this place. It's unique and well located close to but not in the center. So it has a big garden to enjoy the sun, dry clothes in or have a BBQ during the dinnertime. The hosts have some serious backpacking background, so have a chat with them if you want to talk about traveling in the 80's or well before the times of tripadvisor! Ask if you have a chance to sleep in one of the cool old trailers.. There is a rather odd pool also, check it out ! Good kitchen facilities, or actually two of them. Washing machines, too. Respect the silence after 10 PM. Among the best hostels during my stay in the NZ. Inside hint : Maybe have a look at the film "Kill Bill" and see if find Uma Truman from the hostel.. :) :) Love you guys, Mike from Finland
The hostel is quite nice and well located near the city centre and Kuirau Park. The outside equipments are good. The equipments and common grounds are a bit old, and not always clean though. Nice and quite quiet stay for a couple of nights in Rotorua
