Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stay here regularly for business and it never disappoints. Rooms are comfy and quiet, some of them I have stayed in are a little dated, but they are fine for my purpose. The breakfast is just fine with lots of choice. Great location, handy to Eat Street and to the lake. Don't expect the Ritz, but it is value for money.

Pretty much what you expect from a Novotel. The room was pretty average, but had everything you needed (kettle etc), the bathroom was a bit grim though, not dirty just a bit tired. The whole place is a bit dated. Breakfast was ok, cooked food was nice and the fresh juicer was a really nice addition, although could have done with providing proper coffee for free (i.e. espressos etc) rather than just filter and a better range of pastries. Location is good for getting to walk around the lake and you're near a good range of restaurants and the ice cream shop, although a bit far from the centre. Quite conference hotel vibes. The thing which makes this hotel special is the geothermal hot springs spa/pools which are awesome! They have 3 individual pools which are geothermally heated, as well as a cold plunge pool, central larger warm pool and a jacuzzi. So good for a relax and unwind and free for guests - totally loved this experience. The changing rooms were nice and modern, and the pool area feels very classy. Not particularly kid friendly though.

A mixed experience On the positive side; excellent location close to lake and park, eat street and cafes Public areas , bar and conference facilities are excellent; thoroughly enjoyed two nights in bar and able to sit comfortably in nice environment, great bar tender, and good options of bar food too Bed very comfortable and lovely lake view, albeit fairly small room On ground floor is indoor thermal pools-fairly tired, tiles missing, needs updating but still nice to have this facility, didn't use gym but looked modern and well equipped Negative: grumpy check in ( second time this has happened); very tired room particularly carpet in folds and very old bathroom with shower above bath, not very clean lifts or corridors Expensive for the quality of room but redeemed by nice public areas; think parking is now an extra cost as well

Well situated near restaurants and cafes and a lake side spot makes it an excellent choice for a stay in Rotorua. The beds were so comfy, fresh milk available in the mini bar too. The only let down was the shower which wasn’t exactly powerful! The hotel has a fully equipped gym and a pool although we didn’t take advantage of them. Parking is free on the road side in front of the hotel which is another plus!

This very old & tired hotel is not what we were expecting. The room carpet was dirty, stained, & threadbare. the large glass window i was smeared on the inside & dirty - clearly hasn’t been cleaned. The bathroom sink is chipped in 2 places. The mirrored sliding cupboard is also broken & can’t be opened. The fridge is dirty, The public spaces are dirty, the breakfast area cold, the coffee stand is broken and danger of falling over. Awful place.

Old rooms and one star expensive breakfast. Nothing for Gluten Free but fruit. Service is friendly. Rooms and amenities are clean. There are things like gym etc but e don’t use them. There extends does have a good view. It just doesn’t pull off the luxury it charges you for.

Have been in Novotel Lakeside many times as Accor Plus member, but this stay wasn’t as good as before. Used to have prior checking desk in for members but now all waiting in the queue. Used to have “back home “ feeling when checking in, but now just professionally greeted as expected in any other hotels and motels. Used to have one welcoming drinking per adult per day, even we received drinkings for the kids when we visited after Covid which was very touching, but now just one per adult per stay. Used to have nice and clean room, but now there’s leftover food and dishes outside my room when we opened the door, and dusty vent in the bathroom, told the front desk showing the picture, she was shocked but nothing happened afterwards. The dinner was ok but less variety, no more fresh cooked steaks/salmons upon requested as before, no sprinkles for the ice cream. Breakfast was the same as experienced at dinner, no mushrooms and just canned tomatoes, no fresh cooked eggs as requested and no omelette. Checking out was slow, as we were in the rush to next activity, I paid and settled the bill as hotel request and asked the final bill being emailed to me, and I am still waiting the final bill. I wonder what is the value as Accor Plus membership now? Talked to another person beside the pool, we are all agreed that the price is going up which is understandable, but the quality is dropping which is not good at all.

Nice hotel aptly located close to downtown area, as well as the lake and Eat Street. Rooms were a bit dated but I really enjoyed my stay. Went as part of a business meeting and the food was really good. Would definitely recommend!

Novotel brand is my go to hotel as it’s usually pretty consistent wherever you are, so you know what to expect. Novotel Rotorua is probably the most rundown I have stayed in, however, the staff were friendly and the food and facilities were on par with other Novotels. We enjoyed the warm pool, spa and geothermal pools - whilst rundown, it was still a bit of fun. Walking distance to Eat Street and there is a fantastic kids playground on the lake edge. Parking is $15/day but it’s just in a open carpark on the side of the building. Try for free street parking first! We had no problems getting street parking both nights. Novotel was “cheap” compared to other hotels in the area and also by Novotel standards and I put that down to how rundown the hotel is…so I would say you get what you pay for and it’s still pretty consistent with other Novotels. We will be back.

Absolutely terrible. Although the lobby and dining areas were fine, the rooms were appallingly shabby. Our first room had blood stains on the carpet! There was food spilled on the hallway floor which stayed there for two days. The room interiors were so worn and shabby, the area where the fridge was contained had all the MDF framing swollen and discoloured and tiles in the bathroom were chipped. Rooms were not serviced daily. There was no minibar and always a shortage of coffee and tea. The hotel was totally under staffed, always huge queues of people at Reception waiting to complain or ask for things like milk, which was served in odd glass bottles with a tiny bit of milk in the bottom. One of the two lifts was out of service the entire time we were there (several days) and there was no sign of any repair people to fix it. This meant there was always a big wait and large queues for the remaining lift. This hotel has been neglected, is extremely poorly managed and needs a complete refurbishment and new managers that understand what a supposed 4 star hotel is meant to be!
