Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
Millennium Hotel Rotorua is celebrated for its prime location, allowing guests to easily wander to nearby attractions and the lake. The views from the rooms are often admired, though the rooms themselves are noted to be dated and in need of a refresh. While the hotel's atmosphere and comfortable beds receive compliments, opinions are divided due to the room conditions. Service quality is inconsistent, with issues in staff training and efficiency overshadowing some positive guest interactions.
Cleanliness is generally upheld, particularly in the bedding and pool area. However, the value proposition of the hotel is challenged by guests who feel the pricing doesn't match the aging facilities and spotty service. Amenities like the warm pool are a draw, but the hotel's overall offerings are dampened by the outdated aspects and lack of attention to detail.

Detailed Reviews
When you enter the vestibule, you are met with a spacious and well-kept lounge area which adjoins a lovely dining room. There are many different seating options where you can just chill out. The beautiful pool is close by, and the breakfast room is located overlooking the pool. Both the breakfasts and the dinner were delicious and served by charming staff who were most obliging and willing to seek out details regarding food allergens. However, the rooms are extremely tired, desperately in need of a major overhaul. Our room had a big rip in the curtains, the balcony was bare concrete and dirty. There was even a hair in the bath. Saying all that the bed was comfortable.
The staff were very friendly and polite but could do with some extra training in local knowledge and different tourist options. I believe this facility has the potential for greater things.

Pool and hot pools were good. Gym was adequate but very hot and humid - not a biggie.
Room was underwhelming- no extraction fan in toilet/ bathroom, no toilet brush provided, safe wouldn’t lock.
Breakfast - very slow to re - stock the buffet.
On consecutive mornings, I had to ask waitresses to bring out more ham, house baked bread, cheese and water which were not replenished when the buffet was already depleted by 8.15am. It felt like there was an allocated amount of food available for breakfast and once that was gone, that was it. Not what one expects from a supposed high class establishment.
The staff were all very friendly and tried to help as best they could but there needs to some changes if this hotel is to deliver its potential.

We have been staying at the hotel for over 25 years whenever in town however the last 3 or 4 stays have made me think we should look elsewhere. Hotel looking tired , no spa bubbles, cold indoor pool. But it's the service that's letting the hotel down . 5 staff in the restaurant Saturday morning for bfast our table of 6 and 3 other tables of 2 or 4 people. 2 tables including mine had to ask if tea or coffee is still offered at the table after nearly finishing our bfast, only to be given the smallest pot for our table of 6, when asked where the milk is she pointed to the buffet. I got up walked over to the counter and said to the 2 standing there looking at their computer screen, Do you not offer service in here anymore? I gave my feed back on checkout $600 + bill for our 1 night stay, I told her Covid is over there is no excuses now if anything your Management need to train staff the basics in hospitality because travellers like myself don't have money for these treats away just sitting in our back pocket. Smile and acknowledge your guest in all departments, serve fresh food not bacon that's going to break your teeth, or cold hot foods and forgoodness sakes pay attention to your guest while they are there, because that's the difference between loyal guest like us coming back or not.

Read many reviews about this hotel and there were some negative ones. However, we had a great experience. The hotel is close to the town centre with a supermarket a few minutes walk away. On arrival there was ample parking, and the reception staff were very cordial and efficient.
The room whilst 'compact' was clean and perfectly suitable for our purposes. The company is in the process of refurbishing the hotel and the newly updated rooms are absolutely up to standard. We were very pleasantly surprised at how quiet our room was (Lake facing) and we heard no noise of any consequence.
Check out was as efficient as check in and we left happy with the value we received for our money. Could see little reason for the negative reviews. Perhaps some travellers were placed in non-refurbished rooms?
We would happily stay here again.

Renovated room. Clean, decent king bed & pillows, nice decor. Good bathroom with decent shower. Possibily housekeeping forgot to place a bathmat in room, so i had to request one to be sent to me. Decent sized TV with streaming services. Could have done with a capsule coffee machine, clock, & a compendium (wasnt on a tv channel).
Warm welcome on check-in. Facilities lkd ok, didn't use pool/spa or dine in restaurants. Limited onsite parking (not secure), but I managed to get a park on premises each time.
Recommend paying for a Renovated Room.

Thank you for taking the time to share your review! We're happy to hear you enjoyed the renovated room, the comfortable king bed, and the overall decor. We also appreciate your feedback about the bathmat, coffee machine, and compendium – these are all great suggestions, and we'll certainly take them into consideration for future improvements. It's great that you received a warm welcome at check-in and were able to find parking. While we’re glad the parking worked out, we understand that secure parking could be a helpful addition. We’re also happy to hear that you would recommend the renovated rooms, and we hope to welcome you back again soon!

On arrival, the hotel was'tired' and 'worn'. The room was similar, but had also the added strong smell of sulphur. Maybe the smell was to be expected. Hotel busy with coach tours, who took priority over other guests. Our booking had breakfast included on two mornings but the restaurant manager refused to allow us breakfast unless we paid again. This was only resolved when we involved the duty manager on both mornings (same restaurant manager both days). No apology from either manager, but a shrug of shoulders and we were told to take it up with your travel agent if you've a problem.
Staff were not interested in independent travellers and many areas in hotel closed off for exclusive use of tour groups.

We found the Millennium Hotel Rotorua was defiantly showing its age, the room we had was over looking the lake but the very small balcony was more for show than any practical use, the room was clean and the bead was confirmable but everything felt dated and in need of a bit of TLC, it looked like some sections of the hotel was possibly getting an update from the scaffolding showing on some parts of the outside.
When booking the Hotel it was showing that it only had a few rooms left and the ones that were left were on the more expensive side of the pricing, but when wondering round the hotel it felt like it had very few people staying, on our floor it seemed to be only a couple rooms occupied on it.
We found the staff were most helpful and very pleasant but defiantly looked to be understaffed as for example when we had dinner at the hotels restaurant we were advised that due to a large group currently dining we would have a 45-60 min wait to get our meal, the large group was only about 10 people and their was only a couple of other people at other tables I felt with a nice but simple menu the delay of that length was defiantly showing that the kitchen staff and waitstaff were very understaffed but they did there best to still do all they can to look after us.
One other gripe we had was with the hotel bar, we were having a bit of a celebration and after our let down at the Duke's Restaurant & Bar (thats a whole other review) we would grab a glass of Champagne at the hotel, we spoke to the ver nice bar tender and was advised that all the regular bottles of Champagne they had on the menu were out of stock but they did have some of the smaller sizes they could offer (price was steep but to be expected) so we got a couple of bottles of the small size Mumm (only brand they had left) and called it a night, the next evening after a busy day once we got back to the hotel my wife said she would like a glass of Champagne to cap off the day, we went up to the bar tender (same one as the night before) and was advised that we had the last 2 bottles last night and now they have no Champaign left and could only offer Prosecco, this left us wondering if no one if not doing any stock takes of inventory and with a bottle shop literally down the road with price they are charging on drinks it would be prudent to ensure you have some stocks on hand to give your customers a better stay experience considering the price point of some of the rooms.
In review the Staff are very nice and we could not fault them for doing all they could to make our staff as confirmable as possible but with the dated feel of the rooms and the constant feeling of it will a long wait or out of stock put a big dampener on our experience.

Only stayed one night for a show in Rotorua but our hotel experience was fabulous. Very friendly staff at reception and Spa. The room was very comfortable with a nice lake view. The pool was at perfect temperature and the glass roof was even open with the sun shining through in April. We booked the Body Mud Wrap at the Spa not really knowing what to expect but we were looked after so well and enjoy the mud wrap, massage, moisturising with lovely staff. A real treat, as well as spa pool and herbal tea. Dinner was very tasty and served promptly before we went out to the show. A great stay even if the hotel is still undergoing some renovations.

We had a fantastic one-night stay at Millennium Rotorua. The bed and pillows were super comfortable, and the rooms had padded walls that really helped block out noise. We got the best night's sleep! My kids absolutely loved the heated pool—it’s huge and not at all crowded, so they had a blast. Meanwhile, my wife and I got to unwind in the spa, which was the perfect way to relax. Overall, it was a great stay, but it would’ve been even better with a few extra amenities like toothbrushes, slippers, and bottled water.
We'll definitely recommend Millennium Hotel Rotorua to family and friends. Next time, we'll plan ahead so we can stay longer and enjoy it even more.

This was the WORST hotel I have ever stayed at! The photos and rating were very misleading and I cannot believe some of the reviews I'm reading. After having stayed here I did some googling (which I should have done earlier but instead trusted the booking system I used, Qantas, which I'm also disappointed in as they should have updated the rating for this hotel accordingly) and it seems they are no longer part of the Hilton group of hotels, hence I beleive the reason for the reduced quality. The first room we wer given was disgusting, the toilet had blood all along the outside and rust/sulphur (possibly understandable, due to the geothermal location), there were cobwebs all over the balcony and the sheets were absolutely NOT clean. We were then moved to another room which at least was cleaner, but this hotel overall is falling apart. We went to have dinner in the hotel the first night as we arrived late, and waited more than an hour for our meal which finally arrived and was undercooked, for $40+ for a meal, this is unacceptable, and of course it was then too late for us to go elseswhere in the town for dinner which made us even angrier. The hotel manger was terrible, he had zero interest in our feedback, however one of the other reception staff was very helpful when we had to move rooms, I suspect she was part of the previous management/ownership. I understand that everywhere in NZ is shortstaffed but we did not experience this anywhere else both in the north and south islands. I would not recommend this hotel and I hate complaining but I think fellow travellers need to warned.
