Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a room on level 4 of the hotel. The best way to describe it is shabby. The curtains have come apart and the furniture scuffed and marked. The worst was found in the bathroom. The mould growing on the wall tile grout and towel rail was a step to far.

The reception area is huge and flashy but our room was small and tatty. The reception staff were friendly but they gave us a double room when we’d booked a twin. Maybe that was why we got a small tatty room in need of refurbishment with inadequate aircon? The swimming pool was great but the spa baths didn’t work, the sauna was locked and there were no keys for the lockers. The breakfast was quite good. Make sure you get the NZD5 discount voucher.

Just a basic hotel. Tried for two nights to get an evening meal there, but they were booked out. They had two bars, but only one was open, with one staff member who just couldn't cope with the volume of people. Wouldn't bother visiting here again.

This hotel was basic with rooms that seemed a bit tired. The bathroom was serviceable, but not great. The internet was spotty. The location of the property was good and you could walk to town and the lake and it was close to restaurants. The staff at the hotel was very nice and there was a bar in the lobby. The included breakfast was okay but nothing special.

This hotel is undergoing renovation. Our room was in a section that is yet to be renovated so room was somewhat on the shabby side. Our worst complaint was the breakfast buffet. We were on a 3-week trip in NZ with most of our accommodations providing a breakfast buffet and this one was the worst of them all (e.g. canned fruit instead of fresh). On the other hand, the staff is perfectly pleasant and helpful. The lobby is attractive and looks upscale. The rest of the hotel has yet to catch up.

Great location, staff were really friendly and very informative. Gave us a room upgrade to a balcony view and told us about a discount we could get at the Polynesian spa across the road. Ample car parking. Lovely rooms with big comfy beds would definitely recommend.

Good and fast check in. Comfortable bed with a great shower. Shops and eateries are very close by. Breakfast was a large variety with plenty available. Dinner was excellent. Can't complain about this place at all. Well done to the staff....

I am severely disappointed and let down by this hotel. During my stay, I accidentally left an item in my room as I was rushing to catch a coach. As soon as I noticed it was missing that evening, I contacted the hotel by phone *and* email, and they said they could not ship items internationally. I think this is appalling. I've offered to pay for the shipment and even a handling fee. The item in question is not financially valuable, but holds immense sentimental importance to me. The most the hotel offered was to have me send a prepaid courier bag, but I've been informed by the couriers in my location that this is not offered. I simply don't understand why they're unable to simply go to their local post office to ship it to me. I've lost items before at hotels, and that is usually what happens. I actually confirmed this with a post office worker in Auckland while I was still in the country, and she confirmed that this would be the standard way of affairs in NZ too. It's absurd and terrible that this hotel bills itself as 3 or 4 stars and yet refuses to engage in any kind of acceptable customer service. It's upsetting, and has honestly marred what was otherwise a wonderful trip to New Zealand.

We requested to move from our first room (King with view of the lake) within an hour of checking in because the AC was not working. The AC in the second room was better but still weak. Overall, the rooms are in desperate need of a refurb as they are very outdated. Worst hotel we stayed at in our entire trip in NZ as far as room and comfort. We heard construction happening below us on the first floor and so it appears refurb has started. Staff is super friendly and want to help in any way they can. Bar was nice too. Glad we only stayed for 2 nights as I ended up with a massive hydrogen sulphide headache from the thermal sites in the area. We went ziplining, Te Puia, Night treetop walk and Thermal Wonderland. Great experiences!!!

I had a massage at the spa. The therapist was named Helen. I am an athlete and I have professional massages every week when I am not on vacation like I am now. I am usually not impressed with hotel spa massages. However, Helen gave me an excellent deep tissue massage and I recommend her to anyone.
