We stayed over Queens Birthday weekend, a family of 3 in the presidential suite!
We love staying here, this is our 3rd time (first time with our daughter).
The rooms are large and the beds are comfy, there are heat pumps in the lounge and bedrooms, and 3 tvs too.
There are bathing robes to use for walking from the pool back to your room.
The room is quiet, didn’t hear any road noise at all.
The bath is a large spa bath.
We used the pool lots and the grotto.
We ate at Mr Yakitori twice during our stay and enjoyed it both times.
We also ate at the pavilion, the chicken schnitzel was well cooked and a very large serve!
We enjoyed our stay.
We will come back here again.
Note, this is not a 5 star hotel. It is a good value for money hotel that has touches of luxury.

We arrived at the Hotel and went to the side entrance which was to us around the front, could have been better directions into Hotel.
The room we had was okay for a night and felt the price reflected that cost.
Chairs and stools in Bar were so uncomfortable they seem to have a bar under upholstery which was sticking in our backs.
I went to the restaurant and found only okay, service was good, meals were expensive for what we got, Steak was ordered rear and we got medium to well done never commented to the waitress, even though my wife wanted me to.

We stayed here for 3 nights with our 2 kids and the pool did not disappoint! When we weren’t sight seeing we were in the pool - which was a welcome sight after a long, hot day of exploring. There was so much choice at the breakfast buffet (I’d recommend paying for this when you book your room) and the restaurants were great too - especially Mr Yakitori which was delicious. We knew the kids wouldn’t enjoy the food but they let us mix and match with the other restaurant which made it too easy. All the staff were super friendly! We’d book again, but next time I’d get a room with a balcony. All in all we had a lovely time. Our room was cleaned and beds turned down each day. Pool towels available whenever you need them. Thanks for having us!

The Hotel foyer is the best part about this place and it's all downhill from there. The bed was the most uncomfortable mattress I've ever slept on with two clear sagging indentations where couples have slept over many years. The grout in the bathroom tiles were pink with mould. We were woken up both nights at 3:30am by guests yelling next door- very thin walls. Our friends staying in another room had similar experiences to us. Upon checking out, our friends were told they had paid for breakfast both days but were not aware of this... The hotel is very outdated & we will not be returning here on future visits to Rotorua.Staff were friendly but their facilities are letting them down.

I walk with a stick these days and wanted a four star hotel with restaurant and good parking. Distinction was advertised with all of those. I booked a Superior Room and was up-graded to de-luxe. For the life of me I am aghast at the terms. If Deluxe is top notch I wonder what superior looks like as my room was a pit. Tired and just a little smelly from use. Also the room was at the very end of the hotel from the reception. Next came parking. Turns out parking was in a yard a the back with no internal access 121 yards away by my count. There was no room service. The restaurant did not open until 6 and the bar was impossible to get anyone to hang around long enough to buy a beer. I almost never give a bad review, being somewhat forgiving in personality, but this place needs demolishing. Four stars it ain’t.

Customer service was terrible. I called to book a room and was told to ‘just do it online’ I attempted to book a room through distinctions website. I completed the payment section and the page closed. I did not receive any confirmation for the booking and contact distinction via email immediately (wasn’t going to call after how unhelpful the first phone call was). After emailing back and forth I was told the matter would have to be ‘looked into’ and heard nothing back. By this time (22 hours later) we had made it to Rotorua so went into to speak with reception to see if we could get some answers. The $$ for the hotel had been removed from my account and I had evidence of this. After waiting around at the for an hour at the hotel I was told that I did not have a booking as my payment was ‘pending’ and instead of just completing the booking from their end distinction told me that I would need to book AND PAY again online if I wanted to stay the night?!? The payment for the original booking was then held for a WEEK before it was returned..... Obviously distinction must get plenty of business if they are willing to just turn people away like this. I won’t be recommending this hotel and will be sharing my experience with family, friends and my social media followings

Family of four we were upgraded to a deluxe room for no extra charge! All staff at the reception very attentive and polite, special mention to Kayla who was very helpful and recommended great place to eat. Kids enjoyed the pool, room was nice and clean. Some noisy guests but that is no fault of the hotel. Will happily stay here again!

Stayed here a couple of nights on GrabOne “deluxe room” voucher in the school hols. Staff were pleasant enough but restaurants not open when we wanted to book. Lack of info in rooms. Plenty of character and potential for improvements. “Extensive” buffet breakfast was more modest buffet. (No mushrooms even 😢!!) Fresh enough food though. Pools and grotto spas fun for kids but felt a little grotty for us grownups. Needed scooping. Some hotel facilities unavailable, probably post-Covid... informative staff could help here. Bathrooms in our deluxe room ready for upgrading.

I like the Distinction Rotorua, it does a great buffet breakfast worth the stay alone. We have stayed previously in a cheaper room in this hotel and had air con, this time we paid for a better room yet didn’t have air con? This room was also at the opposite end of the hotel and the rooms shook day and night whenever a truck went past, which was constantly. The staff vary from hopeless to amazing and outside of the restaurant it is generally hopeless.

The one thing everyone should know is that half the rooms have no air conditioning and no one tells you that on Expedia or anywhere else. We stayed close to New Year’s and so paid close to $400 a night for a room with no air conditioning and could barely sleep . The management had absolutely no interest in our complaint, claiming that Expedia does tell you and then they themselves admitted that Expedia does not tell you that your room has no air conditioning I agree with those who said that the location is not ideal and that the property is quite dated and that the service is not great. Would recommend to anyone who is checking to stay somewhere else in Rotorua which is beautiful. The hotel has potential but is rundown and not being honest with his clientele.
