Unfortunately we only stayed one night but found this motel to be spacious and clean.
Best of all was the bed. So comfortable!! We have stayed in half a dozen+ motels while in NZ and l had the best sleep in this one!
Coffee, tea, etc is supplied as is body and hair wash if required.
There is a personal spa and a community pool available to relax in.
Laundry facilities are also available.
A very reasonably priced, clean and spacious motel.

Great hosts - very helpful and informative. Comfortable beds, easy parking. We enjoyed the heated pool and the hot tub - with free bubble bath available every day. Fast wifi. Kitchenette was small with limited bench space.

Run down motel photos on website are out of date and don't resemble the crumbled tiles around hot tubs outside. The pool area shabby. Rooms basic they just about get away with staying open... But cheap if that's ok with you....also if you are from out of town be prepared to smell the yucky stink bomb like volcanic sulphur in the air... Apparently you get used to it ....?

A few small things could go a long way here. Unfortunately my review is not a positive one but one which I see necessary for Improvement if they wish to take this constructively. Things around here are feeling a bit old and rough around the edges but my main gripe was the bathroom in our unit (photo attached, trying to add more but keeps crashing) there is a noticeable amount of black mold and dust build up, the light fitting was installed by home DIY and our toilet roll was covered in an unknown substance, possibly paint..? The shower, aside from half the water dribbling down the shower head pipe and onto the floor made me feel like I was going to pick up a foot fungus and at one point I felt pretty sick so I decided to shower with my eyes closed. As we were leaving the head of room service said to her worker in the room next to us "make sure you clean this one extra well, they're friends of the owners". It left me thinking... What does a regular clean lack other than what I noticed and why are your guests less deserving than your friends?
The WiFi was great, the pool was warm but needs more than 1 sun lounger, the bed was OK too and I don't really mind anything else that I noticed. I'm not sure how star ratings work but it seems almost anyone can achieve 4. If a 3 is so damming then I'd give them a 3.5...

Very poor motel!! It’s honestly difficult to find positives to write about.

Very dated rooms, window latches and door locks are barely attached and wouldn't stand a decent pull - very insecure room. One fan provided for two rooms, which had seen better days. Oven top was rusty.

Shower had someone else’s hair clogging up the drain - disgusting!!!

‘Hot water tub’ in rear of each room is exactly that....you fill up the tub with hot water and sit in it. No jet stream, no bubbles, nothing. Basically just an outdoor bath.

This motel is used for emergency accommodation so it is filled with low socioeconomic-economic people who live here for long periods. Without going into too much detail, this is not a nice place for someone wanting to stay while travelling through Rotorua.

It is unfortunate your stay was so poor. The motel is now under new management; it seems you were unfortunate to acquire a room that still needs a lot of work. They are being updated. The tubs are adverstised as just that - hot tubs, and we provide a lovely aromatherapy bubble bath to make them more special. Yes, a lovely outdoor bath. We did walk into some issues with motel staff and cleaning standards; these have been addressed ,we have an excellent team on board now. We had few MSD customers then, we now have many more; but as new managers, we manage this well. We do not put up with any poor behaviour, and now we have clients seeking this motel as a safe one to go to; we have an excellent reputation for the standard of our 'low socioeconomic clients.'

Not that great the breakfast was terrible and also room wasn’t that great. But I think the worst was our “hot pool” you didn’t had hot water even after we waited for 30 minutes. But you had your own parking place directly in front of your house.

Alpins motal is highly disrupting the rooms echo really bad the stuff grow us to go 5km a hour when we only go 1 or 2 more km over, we were in emergency housing and we got blamed for party's that weren't ours while we were having dinner, the say we are rude when all we doing is being ourselfs the security said we were rude to him cause I told him it wasn't our party. The stuff put all those in the notes and now we have no where. Overall the owners need to teach there workers how to reapect other people and not be so dramatic or petty just because they have a problem, some people have nothing but a car to live in. Don't stay here gangs rude people, our car try to get broken into, our front door trying to be shocken open early hours of the morning random kids and people casaly walking in to our home.

That a terrible experience. I am sorry for this. As new managers we working hard to make this a great place for our emergency housing customers. There are some who create problems, and it can often be difficult to isolate exactly who and mistakes can be made. We place a high priority on a safe and quiet environment here.

Filthiest place I have ever stayed, no apology from the front desk after making a complaint. The care taker bugging in our room without knocking whilst I was changing. Very appauld, vomit and splatters of blood in the room, wasn't cleaned or inspected before next arrivals. Ruined our Christmas break.

It is unfortunate your stay was so poor. The front desk was absolutely shocked at the issue with our maintenance man, and he did apologize. He also addressed the staff member in question. This man was new to staff; he had made an error choosing the wrong gate. Your husband bailed him up with a knife to his stomach, which I feel gave him a sufficient scare! We saw no need to press charges for this as he was rightfully upset. Although at busy times with some short term cleaners there can be occasional cleaning issues, I do not believe there was vomit and spatters of blood in the bathroom. We are however very sorry that your stay was not pleasant.

Have stayed at the Alpin several times over the years, now I dont think they even accept local tourists anymore .Its become a emergency housing establishment, and sadly has gone down hill rapidly.last time we turned up,there was vomit all over the car park in front of the unit,no towels, and hair from what looked like unchanged sheets.
I would like to say something positive about this place,as it was once a great stay.
If you like shouting and be intimidated by the long term tenants along with damaged walls, broken or run down bbq's,then your welcome to it.
Ive traveled all around the world, stayed in some poor hotels, and some great ones, but this one now take the prize of the worst.
Never again.

We had the misfortune of staying here for one night - not sure how they wrangle a 4 start rating but we were vey disappointed. Very dark rooms and furniture and fittings were very tired. One chair in our unit was held together with duct tape - see photos. Also the communal pool was very tired and in need of painting. Not appealing to go swimming in. The private pool in our unit was aged and in need of replacement - also not enticing. Beds were obviously in need of replacement and carpet was very stained. Not worth the money we paid and have paid similar tariffs to stay in much nicer hotels in Rotorua.
