Detailed Reviews
Coming from the US, Rotorua reminds me of an old Florida beach town. From the hotel side of things, this means there are a lot of small, older independent motels that are well loved. Ripple Rotorua is an excellent example of this. The rooms are large and very clean, but have older furnishings and some dings in the walls and paint. They have quality breakfast service to your room for a small cost, a nice restaurant onsite, and activities like minigolf, ping pong, and a pool. There is a washer/dryer onsite that costs 4 NZD per load and detergent is provided. The location is on the end of town with the less natural attractions (Luge, Zorb, Minigolf, Agrodome, etc), but you can get to the thermal attractions via short drive. For most people, the Ripple Rotorua is a great option and I very much recommend it. For those that have a taste for a more modern hotel, you might be disappointed. But I really didn't see many of those options in the Rotorua area. For the type of town it is, this Ripple Rotorua fits right in.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Ripple Rotorua. It's great to know that the spacious rooms, clean environment, and onsite amenities like the breakfast service, minigolf, and pool added to your experience. We also appreciate your understanding of the older, well-loved nature of the property—it’s part of what gives Ripple its charm. We’re glad you found the location convenient for exploring the area, and your recommendation means a lot to us. We hope to welcome you back on your next visit! Safe travels! Nga mihi - Sophie

Really friendly and human communication before, during and after the stay. The most personal experience we've ever had with a motel/hotel. Every person we met there was friendly and awesome. Kids loved the mini golf, trampoline and games room, and our adventures exploring around the stunning stream. Not long after we checked out I got a phone call that the cleaners had found my 6 year old's brand new wallet and we could pop back and get it. He hadn't even noticed he'd lost it and would have been devastated if he'd left it behind. Got a load of washing done there and had a kitchenette to use the groceries we brought with us. We booked the 6-person family room. Beautiful and modern decor. We let them know in advance we'd be arriving late at night and the instructions they gave us were simple and they had pre-heated the rooms for us in the winter. We walked over the road to do the gondola and luge, and walked back again easily with all 4 kids. A fantastic stop on our Nth Island road trip.

Very clean and well located apartment with lounge area, kitchen and hot tub. Allocated car park and no sulphur smell as was a short drive to the main part of town. Woolworths supermarket is only a 2 minute drive and has a Westpac ATM at the shopping strip. Shower had good water pressure however lacks a ventilation fan for the steam and the floor gets slippery as only has a shower curtain. Has laundry, cost of $4 to use washing machine and $4 for clothes dryer or can use clothes line there. It is a great base, during our 4 night stay only 45 minute drive to Wai-O-Tapu thermal grounds, 1 hour to Taupo/Huku Falls, 45 minutes to Hobbiton. Staff very friendly and helpful.

We were pleasantly surprised, especially at finding a private hot tub with our room! I don't know how many rooms have this facility but my husband particularly enjoys a hot soak.
The room was simple and fairly standard but the emphasis on environmental care and the organic products, as well as the opportunity to opt out of a daily room service in exchange for a donation to a local charity, made a the difference.
The restaurant provided excellent food and the breakfast room service was of the same high standard.
All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, including tracking down a local source of the tea which I enjoyed and finding the location of a lake in one of the pictures in our room so that we could visit it.
All round a good experience and we shall probably return.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Ripple Rotorua. When looking for lodging, I focus on price/value, and we got that with Ripple Rotorua. We had a two-room unit, including a hot tub, for a relatively low price. It was clean and comfortable. One night we had dinner at the Brook, their on-site restaurant, and the other we went to a nearby Maori village so it suited us better to be outside of the center of Rotorua. I would stay there again if I were back in Rotorua

My wife and I from Toronto Canada visited our son in Rotorua and stayed at Ripple for five days. The service was incredibly attentive and friendly, and our room was very clean and comfortable. The location is a quiet oasis close to all the major tourist attractions, with the brook a beautiful and peaceful place to read a book or simply listen to the plentiful birds. The local family who now owns it have the highest of standards and we would recommend staying at Ripple to anyone.

I stayed for 1 night in a One Bedroom Outdoor Hot Tub Unit (1 Queen, 1 Single). The staff at this hotel were so friendly--I enjoyed the kind greeting upon arrival as well as the personalized welcome papers in the room. They even provided fresh milk in the rooms! My room was very clean, and I appreciated how spacious the unit was. Parking right outside my door. The "hot tub" is just an outdoor tub, but I really appreciated using it to relax after a long day. The room was quiet and dark, with a comfortable bed. The A/C unit cooled the room quickly, and I had a great night's sleep. The hotel is simple, but is in a great location on the edge of town, yet close to some popular attractions. This was a great find, and I would recommend to others! Thank you!

Staff at Ripple made the extra effort to make guests feel welcome with several unique and personal touches. All staff interactions including reservations, housekeeping and grounds team were positive and friendly. Room was great and comfortable, shame I didn't have time to fill the spa!

This is my first time staying here. It was a nice place to stay. It has the basic amenities. It has a small kitchen where you can cook up your own meals which is important to me as I’m GF. It also has a restaurant on site that made room for us without reservations which I’m thankful for. The staff were lovely. The hotel is 2min away from the luge and mini golf. You can leave your car at the hotel and walk across the road. They have a pool which isn’t very deep if you kneel in the pool your head is still above the water. But it’s good enough to have a splash around in and refresh yourself before you start your day and to relax in at the end of the day after you have been out exploring.

I will start by saying that the motel was not what I expected - it is an older (probably 1960s?) facility - but it has been very well maintained and updated. The rooms (bedroom and bathroom) were comfortably large. The bed was very comfortable. The AC/heat unit allows you to manage the temperature. The shower water had good pressure, lots of hot water, and maintained temperature. The heated towel racks were nice. The kitchen was well appointed. We ordered breakfast one morning. The eggs, bacon, and toast were perfectly cooked, delicious, and still hot even though staff had to deliver it to our door in serious rainstorm.

I’m not sure what type of room we had, but it featured two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Also a larger kitchen and a smaller kitchenette. And three TVs. Plenty for four of us.
We also arrived very late , we rang the hotel they are more than happy to meet you at a designated time , they are great to deal with 😁 hope this helps
