This review is my personal view of my stay. 2 star hotel at best. The positive was the beds. Satisfactory. Also for a family group of 8 we got all rooms on the same floor. Check in was a joke. We booked 3 rooms and one was not on file even though we had the confirmation email. Holes in the bathroom wall where fittings had previously been but removed. The shower tap was loose and lifted off the wall when used. In house restaurant closed for dinner service during peak season. No Aircon in the rooms. Room temperature was 33 Celsius when we arrived. Had to ask for fans for each room. Reception won't answer phone when you call from room phone on the day we arrived. Service of rooms was average. Day 1 we had no towels. Day 2 we had to request via reception to have our rooms serviced even though we left the service tags on the doors. Was finally done at 3pm. At the time of writing this we had 1 more night to stay so cannot comment on checking out.

From the outside the hotel looks nice and they have a good area. However, we felt unsafe staying here as the crowd looked a bit shady. We also felt insecure about our car parked outside the hotel and changed its location to in front of reception. We ordered room service and the food was all packaged and reheated. The breakfast in the morning was bad - the eggs were also not fresh . The Kiwi fruit was the only good thing. The doors of the rooms did not lock well . We just spent a night there but felt very insecure full night

Dear guest I am sorry to here that you felt unsafe in our hotel due to the look of other guests staying with us at the same time. Just so you are aware we cook everything from fresh and we do not pre pack room service orders and we cook eggs fresh from the shell daily. I am sorry we did not meet your expectations.

Very poor customer service from reception and didn’t find the team very friendly . Our room was directly opposite the laundry so was very noisy. Definitely not a 4 star hotel and I wouldn’t stay here again. Not great amenities and our room was very ‘tired’. We didn’t eat in the restaurant as we were booked to go to Te Puia - but warning - we had a pick up booked from the hotel that didn’t turn up ☹️

It's a big and beautiful property with a lot of good staff. It is very near to market, gardens and all the experiences nearby. For Indian tourists, there is a Gurudwara just behind the hotel and swaminarayan temple is 5 minutes walk. I used to visit the small and beautiful rose garden quite often which is 1 minutes away. The rooms are big and nice. They have suit rooms also which is quite good and specious. Almost all the bathrooms have bath tub. The hotel has a hot water swimming pool and 2 spa pools also. It has a restaurant that opens for limited time only. It has a lot of space around reception and pool to sit, relax and talk....It has small and medium size conference room also. They have a gym also but the most important thing is their staff. All of them were very cooperative and polite. Will stay there any day....you can park your car for free in It's big parking area, that is rare in Newzealand.

Poor service from the night manager. Did lift a finger to help me, did not even seem concerned. There was another staff member working at the time, I asked the night manager if he could get him to help and he said, no, he’s just a cleaner. Plus there was leftover food in the fridge in the room from (hopefully) the previous guest.

This didn’t feel like a four star hotel. The shower room was in desperate need of an upgrade, in fact we didn’t use the shower while we were there. It had a really basic feel to the whole room, and the rest of the areas in the hotel were shabby and in need of maintenance. However, the beds were very comfortable, and we were able to park fairly close to our room. The restaurant - Jimmy Cooks kitchen - was shut, and breakfast had to be booked and ordered the night before although we didn’t try it. There wasn’t a lot of choice for food within walking distance so we ended up taking the car back into the main town when we wanted to eat. However, the hotel is well placed to several of the main attractions. There were several coaches at the hotel but also alot of HGV drivers staying there, which didn’t make a good impression either.

A nice hotel but in need of some serious TLC (some rooms appear to have been renovated). It's quite a way from the main shopping/restaurant area, situated about a mile from downtown but this makes it very quiet. Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Very little wardrobe/storage space for clothes however. The bed was comfortable the room clean but the bathroom needed some renovation and cleaning - the extractor vent on the wall was very dirty and probably not cleaned for many months (see photo). Ground floor rooms come with a patio, 2-chairs and a table, overlooking the inner courtyard; upstairs rooms had a balcony. A nice, fairly small swimming pool and a couple of hot tubs; only one had working controls for the air jets. The information pack in the room started that a shuttle service (with fee) was available for going into town but when we tried to book we were told by reception staff that this was not possible but they could book a taxi for us!

When a hotel offers 2 room types and charges more for the 'superior room,' then a guest would simply think that they are paying more due to the additional amenities the room has to offer. The superior room's description clearly mentions ' A better way to stay with panoramic views of the city and beyond.' Not that this was the main reason of our visit, however we would've liked to have some sort of view, simply because we paid the higher price. However the view we got was of the car-park, with cars hardly 10 metres away from our room. When I called Reception about the same, I was straight away transferred to the Front Office Manager who was extremely rude and just asked "is that the main reason of your visit?" While we do appreciate that Copthorne does not only focus on leisure guests and has a large corporate clientele, thus providing rooms with views would not be their highest priority, however if that is the case do not mention 'panoramic views of the city on your website.' I'm not usually the one to create fuss however the attitude of the front office manager was absolutely absurd and not acceptable for a chain such as Millennium hotels. I was not even apologised to and she just that if its mentioned on the website its a mistake. Other small things that make a huge difference for guests is simply having 4 coffee mugs in the room, especially when it has the capacity to sleep 4 people. The buffet breakfast was also tasteless and not value for the money we paid for it. Honestly speaking, it just isn't enough to just provide 'at par' service nowadays, and our stay was just below 'at-par' service to say the least.

THERE’S NO AIR CONDITIONING!!! They should clearly state this but they do not. When we asked the front desk about the a/c not turning on all they said was, “it doesn’t work. We don’t advertise that we have a/c.” And there is only one tiny window. It was too hot to sleep. Worst hotel experience ever. I would not recommend.

This is a very tired hotel, fortunate to have staff trying their best for their guests. The building is in poor general state, in need of heaps of repair and update. Rooms are tired, beds really soft and bathroom fittings outdated and in some cases rusting. The breakfast was disappointing, very plain. I tried different options on the couple of days we were there, and aside from toast and scrambled eggs the rest was not up to standard, for taste and presentation. There was no fresh fruit on offer, for example, but plenty of breakfast pastries of all descriptions. The hotel seems currently focused on a resident team of folks making a film - sadly to the detriment of their other guests.
