As locals and avid foodies we eat out regularly at all of the fine dining restaurants in Rotorua and the Black Swan is fast becoming a favourite. What more can we say? This is a nice, quiet boutique hotel, ideal for a couple’s retreat. The manager was friendly and helpful, and the room was nicely presented and clean with good towels and bedding. The breakfast was delicious, with a good selection. There were a couple of things that prevented it being a perfect stay… The room (being at the back of the building) lacked any kind of view or outlook, the spas and outdoor furniture were in need of a little love and attention (yellowy spa water, spiders and leaves on the furniture), and the squeaky floor boards above our room meant a 5am wake up both mornings when the staff started moving about. Otherwise would recommend!

Beautiful location and property, nicely appointed rooms. Kym, the property manager was incredibly hospitable and made us feel relaxed and at home from when she welcomed us on site. The dinner and breakfast we had were delicious. Highly recommend!

The black swan is an experience we should all have. The staff, especially Kym, the Managet were outstanding lovely to deal with. Helpful and pleasant doesn’t even cover their pride in what they do and achieve. Accomadation is superb and the atmosphere is relaxed,but professional at all times. The food was presented beautifully and tasted as good as it looked. Well done to Kym and all her staff we had a truly love Stay at the Black Swan.

What can I say - wow! This was one of the most incredible stays we have had in a long time! Everything was pure perfection. Right from even before we arrived, we knew we were going to love it. Kym had fabulous communication and so kindly offered for us to arrive early as we were coming from Auckland. The room was just so gorgeous and plush and the view was incredible. We were in Room 4, right on the lake front and it was worth every penny. The room has floor to ceiling views and a cute little courtyard out a side door. It’s super close to the pool and outdoor area. All the little touches are thought of in the room - from complimentary home made biscuits (my partner was obsessed with these!) to the mini bar. My partner mentioned I was a bubbles gal and at one point when we had left the room, Kym snuck in and replaced the wine with bubbles! I was so touched by that. The first day we arrived we spent it out by the pool - there are so many nooks to discover and relax in! The outdoor day beds are soooo comfortable; so comfortable in fact that I stayed in them long enough to read a book from cover to end in one sitting! I have not been that relaxed in forever. Dinner that night was just out of this world. Andrew is so incredibly talented! We had the duck and pork belly to start with - both melt in your mouth. My salmon and prawn main was just perfection - if I could have licked the plate I would have!! My partner had the venison and he was lost for words. Special mention also to the breads and the fries - both well worth it!! Breakfast the next morning was served by Skye in the most gorgeous setting on the upstairs balcony. Skye is absolutely precious and always checking up on us to make sure we had everything we needed. We forgot our speaker by the pool and after mentioning it she disappeared and reappeared with one of their personal speakers for us to use! The spa is a MUST! It has amazing views out to the lake and is in the most romantic setting- I can’t wait to come back in winter time and spend time here!! We had dessert delivered to our room on our last night and again, I take my hat of to Andrew! I had the chocolate dessert and it was every bit as decadent as I had hoped!! Every part of this trip will be treasured, in these turbulent and uncertain times it felt good to find some peace and quiet and a home away from home. The staff are amazing - shout out to Kym who really goes out of her way to make you feel looked after and special. We cannot WAIT to come back and spend more time at this very, very special place.…
