This Holiday Park suits its purpose by providing affordable site for caravans and RVs plus simple cabins for others.

We stayed in one of the spartan cabins. We pretty much knew what to expect, but we weren’t planning to tag another $21 on for blankets and linen. Ends up we didn’t need any blankets because the cabin was very warm (too warm) at night. There were no screens on the windows so we couldn’t cool the cabin down without letting insects in.

The communal bathrooms and showers were clean and adequate. The swimming pool water was cold but there were two spa tubs on site. The cabin included a floor fan, fridge and a TV. No sink. The beds came with a fitted sheets and pillows with pillow cases.

The reception staff was pleasant and emails were answered promptly.

Excellent value for money, I paid $20 per night and had unlimited showers, kitchen for cooking and washing up, laundry facilities and great wifi. Perfectly located for all that Rotorua has to explore! Well maintained site and friendly, helpful staff 😊

Our family of 5 stayed two nights in a 2 brdm motel unit during the long Queens Birthday Weekend. It was clean and plenty big enough and had everything we needed. Double bed was comfy with plenty of pillows. Take extra blankets though if in winter if you feel the cold like me. Complementary tea, coffee and milk provided. Two small communal hotpools in the park are nice but popular so may be difficult to get a turn. A good large communal games/tv room above the office. Didn't use the communal kitchen or bathrooms so cant comment on them. Staff were helpful enough upon check-in. A big tick for not having a min 3 nights stay policy which so many other places have during long weekends. Reasonably priced and we had no probs. Overall good value. You can better quality elsewhere but you'll pay more.

Recently I stayed at this holiday park. The first thing that bothered me is that after we booked it they told us we had to pay for sheets and blankets. That was really annoying because we weren’t prepared for it. What can I say, this place does provide a comfortable bed and a clean communal bathroom. The pool was very cold. The young kids played on the trampoline and the playground and they seemed to enjoy it. The room was hot because there was no air conditioning.

We went to Holden's Bay Holiday Park for a Family Holiday in Nov 23. We booked the 3 Self-Contained Family Rooms that sleep 6 in each room.
Very spacious Rooms with comfortable beds. Extra pillows & Blankets if needed. Kitchen was fully equipped with everything needed to cook with.
Myself & my partner stayed in a 1 bedroom which had a bed in lounge. Very spacious Room with all the kitchen utensils, pots, plates etc. to cook in the room.
The Rooms had small fridges, but we were advised prior to trip, so we took chill bins for each room to store food.
BBQ area was so clean & BBQs were very clean too with utensils to use if needed.
Pool is cold. There is a heated small pool inside room by pool.
Volleyball net with balls to borrow at Reception. Staff were so helpful & information was clear to all. A lot of space for the kids to run around & play at nice playground for kids.
Thank you, Holdens Bay Holiday Park, for making our Family Holiday for 20 people a very enjoyable stay.

Stayed on a powered site for 2 nights with my partner. Kitchen had all of the needed amenities such as hobs, oven, fridge, freezer, bait freezer, toaster and kettle. Plenty of sinks with dish soap provided. Bathrooms were clean with plenty of shower cubicles. Campsite also had a pool, hot pool, TV room and a volleyball court. Only a 10 minute walk to watch the sunset over lake rotorua also. McDonalds is also around the corner if needed. Overall, great stay!

We were welcomed by a very knowledgeable and friendly staff member for our arrival. A short chat had us given the required information about the Park and local events to attend. The amenities were plentiful and clean. Yes, it was in a busy airspace, but it did not bother our sleep in the slightest.

We enjoyed our stay on a powered site with our caravan and were able to bring our dog. The staff was friendly and helpful, the facilities, although a bit older, were kept clean and tidy. There is a coffee cart on site for your morning fix. We could take advantage of the winter deal 3 nights for the price of two and even got a 10% discount on the remainder with our NZCMA members. Much appreciated. The camp is a few minutes from the lake side, and a 15 minute drive to Rotorua city centre.

This Holiday park is way and way too expensive.
We stayed here 3 nights and paid like 360 NZD
The room literally had nothing. If we wanted to have blankets, kitchen utility, water heater etc we would have to pay additional.
The fridge was dirty, outside chairs nearly broken and they said it was fully booked when we asked for an upgrade.
The public kitchen was very, very basic and very outdated
This Holiday park is going to be 1 time, and no more ever.

Response from Holdens Bay, General Manager at Holdens Bay Holiday Park
Responded 15 Dec 2023
We are sorry to hear that our accommodation did not meet your expectations, and that we were unable to offer an alternative room on this occasion. We are often fully booked at the weekends, especially during peak season and event weekends. We have now entered peak season and this weekend is the Ironman Rotorua competition, hence why there was no availability in our other room types for the duration of your stay. As we were unable to upgrade your room, we did offer to refund your booking, in full, free of charge if you did not wish to stay. This offer was rejected. The room that you booked, the large standard cabin, is one of our two “budget” room types. As such, we only provide basic amenities in these rooms. We are very transparent on both our website and the OTA listings that there is no running water or kitchen amenities in this cabin, and that guests will be required to use our shared facilities building. Furthermore, a message is sent upon booking to ensure that guests are aware of this fact. We offer rooms to suit every budget, therefore our rooms with kitchens, or kitchens and ensuite bathrooms are more expensive which is standard within the industry. Utensils can be hired from reception for a refundable deposit of $20 should you need them. Bedding was provided for the double bed and both single beds in this room free of charge. If you required more during your stay, you just needed to ask at reception. All our rooms are cleaned thoroughly and checked by management prior to guests’ arrival. Upon receiving your initial complaint about the fridge in your room, a staff member was promptly sent to clean your fridge again. I will concede that the plastic in this appliance has discoloured due to age, however, it was not dirty. It is unfortunate that you do not feel that this accommodation is good value, however, $120 per night is a reasonable price to accommodate 4 guests at a weekend during the peak season. If you have any further problems during your stay, please come to reception to discuss these with our staff. They will be happy to help. Best wishes Management

We stayed one night in the campsite and we were very happy with the facilities. It had a kitchen, showers and toilets which were all super clean. Upstairs it had a pool table and a TV with books etc. Staff friendly and great layout with loads of room per vehicle. Would definitely return here. Highly Recommend.
