Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The location of the motel is beautiful, on the shores of Lake Rotoiti (note, not actually Lake Rotorua but an adjacent lake!). Not surprisingly, one of its draws is that it caters for weddings and similar events. They have a large lawn going down to the water. However, their small swimming pool and spa is tucked away from the open view. We were well looked after by the staff as there were not so many guests when we stayed: they were mostly Indian origin. The evening meal menu didn’t offer a wide selection but the food was good. They do have a bit of a problem with flies and they advise keeping the French windows (which open from every room onto the lawn) closed as much as possible. We were driving an electric vehicle when we visited and the staff kindly let us plug in to an outside power socket (which was also used for their Christmas lights, so we only plugged in at the end of the evening).

We held our annual conference at the VR Rotorua Lake Resort in May. From my first contact about holding our conference there, during the stay and after we have received fabulous communication and service. The whole team was very accommodating and I received fabulous reviews from our team of 30 including but not limited to, Awesome food, amazing rooms, great service. Personally I had a small issue with my room and upon speaking to House keeping about it I had someone from the maintenance team there within 10 minutes to sort for me. The conference room was great and tended to very well. The lunches and 3 course dinner were fabulous. A huge thank you to Rolando, Nick and the team for making our conference the best yet !!

Beautiful views! When we arrived the receptionist wasn't so great, quite bland, no smile. She could really learn a thing or two about hospitality from the awesome restaurant team!!

We had dinner in the restaurant it was great. Our server Leila was absolutely the best, from making sure we had everything we needed to even playing with our daughter and taking her for a walk in her pram. Thank you so much Leila you are a superstar. The food was wonderful.

We enjoyed breakfast in the restaurant both days of our stay and it was awesome. Jade who looked after breakfast is also a superstar! Thank you so much for your hospitality and kind smile and for giving our baby a roll-up, it was all appreciated. The restaurant team hold a high standard!!

The room was nice enough but could use a deep clean, there was a strong feel of dust in the room which really affected our daughters asthma. If you have children with asthma do not stay here. Under the beds was foul, dusty and filled with rubbish. Our room was serviced and that left something to be desired, the beds were made but the pillows were just left on the floor. The towels etc were just dumped on a chair. Glasses weren't replaced just taken away.

We enjoyed our stay, we really liked strolling the surrounds of the resort and absolutely loved the restaurant and the team there!!

Your cleaners and receptionist are letting you down.

Thanks so much, we might be back if you get that deep clean sorted (:

Had one night here I must sat Meals we had were very good indeed one Steak and one Pork really top draw.
The Hotel is quite dated and well used but the reason I only gave Three stars was
that the Bathroom is only separated from the Bedroom by wooden slatted shutters
from waist high. I have never seen this before and it means there is no privacy when the bathroom is in use, very odd indeed

This hotel is in a nice location 15 minutes outside Rotorua, seemingly ideal if you want to get away from the resort-town bustle. Employees were pleasant and helpful. But this property really shows a lack of commitment to ongoing maintenance. For example: the carpet in our room was worn, with a number of loose threads; the walls had numerous chips, dings, old screw holes, and smudges; the end of one curtain hung loose and uncloseable because hooks were missing; the screen between the bedroom and bathroom was off its track and jammed; the paint on the porch railing was peeling. The shelf space in the bathroom was limited to a 6-inch fringe around the sink, even though a floating shelf could easily have been installed on the adjacent wall; a light over the sink was burned out. Nothing that a good handyman couldn't fix in half a day, but the point is these flaws should be obvious to management, and ACTED UPON. If you think that your notel room should always feel fresh and ship-shape, you will want to look elsewhere.

I visited the "Resort" in Dec. and while I am very much thankful for the hospitality of the staff, the place is far from being a " Resort". First of all there is insects everywhere, including on the doors and windows and hallway. A simple UV light installed on the hallway could have solved the issue. My room ceiling was peeling off and most of the light fixtures in the bathroom were rusted. The bathroom shower doors were heavily mold-stained. The breakfast was just about average.
The closet had 3 hangers, when I asked for some more, the front desk staff took their jacket off to give me a plastic hanger. The carpet was clearly in need of cleaning, there were light cobwebs hanging from the wall lamps. We stayed 3 nights, on the 3rd day, our beds were not even made, only a bunch of towels were left on the tub. The bathroom overall was clean.
The front staff was very helpful, polite and professional - but the place needs complete renovation before it just falls apart. The laundry room including washer and dryer was very dirty.

This accommodation has so much potential, however it appears little investment has been made with the upkeep and its now looking very shabby. The gardens were over grown, the decking and windows were filthy. General cleaning was lacking, with doors and walls needing a good clean and a deep clean of the our shower was required. Service was the bare minimum and no niceties to feel welcomed. Would not recommend.

My friends and I were delightfully pleased with our stay at VR Lake Resort Rotorua!
We arrived late after a night out and the check process was very simple and easy. The reception team had left our keys at reception with night security.
He was very friendly and directed us where to park (as the hotel was full) and then to our room.

I organised the accommodation and so my friends actually hadn't seen what the rooms looked like however they were pleasantly surprised when they open the door to their rooms. We were all greeted with two large queen size beds which were extremely comfortable! For me it was the best sleep I had for the entire long weekend (we only stayed one night then moved on to Tauranga).

The rooms also have an extremely large bathroom complete with a spa bath and separate shower.

In the morning reception have us a late check-out which was great appreciated and a delicious breakfast al included! They had all you can eat bacon, eggs, toast, fresh fruit, cereals and pastries.

AND THE VIEW! The entire hotel is situated on the lakefront over looks a gorgeous and peaceful lake with forestry in the background.

Very special place and the service is incredible. Thank you very much for making our stay so delightful!

We used the VR Rotorua Lake Resort to host a prizegiving dinner. From the start, the Resort were amazing and helped plan everything so it was very easy to organise. Their communication was excellent throughout. At the dinner, the staff were very attentive, service was prompt and the food was first class. Highly recommend this venue to anyone wishing to hold a dinner party or event.
