Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed with Sonja, Dave, Lily and Emma for 2 nights and enjoyed their welcoming home as rain "dampened" some of our plans. Sonja and Dave's hospitality brought sunshine to our stay. They were full of alternative ideas for activities to do in the area. It was like being in your own home with friends chatting in the afternoon. We learned a lot about the area and the culture. We were up on the hill, out of the bustle of town (and the sulphur smell), but an easy jaunt down to restaurants and activities. The room, bath and sitting area were very comfortable with a tranquil view over their garden down to the lake, albeit mostly hidden by clouds during our stay. Sonja even offered to do some laundry for us which was greatly appreciated. For breakfast there was a nice variety of fresh fruit, and I loved the rhubarb from their garden, yogurt, cereal, toast plus eggs (from their own chickens) and bacon. Daughters Emma and Lily and the kitty made it seem even more like being in a friend's home. Sonja and Dave gave us a fabulous restaurant recommendation, Atticus Finch, on Eat Street. I would highly recommend it. The restaurant, owned by a friend of theirs, uses herbs from their garden. Truly a wonderful stay during what could have been a gloomy couple of days.

A family home owned by the lovely Sonya, Dave and Lily overlooking Rotarua, we self drove and made a last minute booking online at their residence based on recommendations.

This is a farm BNB and not a hotel so don't be too demanding and don't expect the world.

It was a short drive from downtown Rotarua and maybe a little difficult to find at night but with a GPS and a map of the farm, it was not so difficult.

We had 2 fab nights with the family...and an enjoyable time not only socializing with them but also talking about so many things about our countries and about life in New Zealand and they helped organize a trip to the Tamaki Maori Village which was fantastic.

We stayed in a beautiful home with a beautiful family and had the best views anyone could have asked for...this was most def. an excellent way to get to know local Kiwi's and to spend time with them and understand kiwi life.

They were very gracious, welcoming and went out of their way for us...

If you do choose to stay with the Hunt family, be gracious..treat them well and respect the fact they are giving you the unique opportunity to stay with them in their home and to experince kiwi hospitality...

Sonya, Dave & Lily were the absolute hosts. We only stayed 2 nights but Hunts Farm sure left a great impression. The house is beautifully designed, inviting and very comfortable and the property is stunning. When we arrived Sonya gave us a true locals run own and all the best spots to visit over a freshly baked cheese scone with home made marmalade. If we ever return to Rotorua we will definitely be book another stay. Breakfast was delicious with lots of home grown treats. Sonya made us feel very welcome and we enjoyed all the stories we exchanged. All the serenity of a farm stay with the convenience of Rotorua town not far away.

When I called to find out about Hunt's farm, Maureen said "we would love to have you stay with us" and from that moment on I didn't want to stay anywhere else. Hunt's Farm is in the most stunning location, up on a hill overlooking Rotorua but while away from the sulphur smell of the town, it is still very convenient if you have your own transport. We stayed with our 18 month child and he delighted in playing outside on the farm. Inside Maureen was very kind always finding way of making our lives easier including letting him play with a lovely old box of toys so we could enjoy her delicious breakfasts. While we didn't see much of her husband "farmer John" he was just as warm and made us feel right at home. We also got to meet one of their children Sonya who gave my husband some great advice on mountain biking - which is a fabulous experience in the Redwoods if you get the chance to do it. The Hunt's are a remarkable family and I highly recommend their place for anyone looking for tranquility and the ultimate in hospitality.

We stayed three nights in this spacious, fully equipped and cosy upstairs apartment with great views over the entire town and without the sulphur smells that often occur in town. Rooms together 77m2 including a cork floored en-suite bedroom, and a total of 4 beds.
Full breakfast was served downstairs in the living area with open kitchen, where we also spend part of the evening talking with Sonya and daughter. Good advice on the best activities to do, and she did a whole basket of laundry for us.
One evening we spent on the terrace overlooking the town, sipping our wine. The pool below in the garden was heated, but we already went to one of the spa’s. One morning a rainbow against a grey sky was above the sun-lit meadow with the dear grazing below from the farm. This was a very pleasant and relaxed stay of which we have excellent memories.

We stayed with Sonya, Dave and their two adult daughters for 5 nights.
We booked the accommodation late and when we arrived around 8 Sonya met us at the door and warmly welcomed us. We were shown to our room which was lovely, with amazing views from our tv area over the lake and town below. Sonya and Dave suggested a local restaurant which was fantastic (we ended up eating their 3 out of our 5 nights).

Our hosts were amazing, warm and friendly, welcoming us into their space and offering for us to spend time with them. They offered great advice and explained some of the local spots for walking and mountain bike riding.

They have a gorgeous property with a lovely vegi garden, fruit trees and chooks.
Nothing was to much for them, when we came back to get our washing off the line we found it neatly folded for us on more than one occasion, which was not expected but so kind of them to do.

Breakfast was wonderful, homemade muesli and Sonya roasted some of their delicious home grown rubarb with lemon and their own raspberries. A great cooked breakfast was offered as well with their chooks eggs and yummy bacon and tomatoes.

A delightful stay and a highlight of our NZ trip :)

My wife and I stayed in this wonderful house for one night. Simply amazing. A great place to relax after a busy day enjoyng the "haka".
Sonja and her family are very very friendly and it is a pleasure to chat with them, while enjoyng the very good breakfast that Emma (Sonja's daughter) prepared for us.
The room is very very big, clean and quiet. Also, the rest of the house is very very nice. Stop here if your going to spend a night in Rotorua.

This is a mixed bag. Very kind and welcoming owner. The room was very spacious but very poorly furnished given the distance from the town it would have been helpful if there had been plates and cutlery for take away meals. However the view and surroundings are incomparable and you forgive the pink frills and plastic bathroom for the situation and owner.

Stayed just one night at this Farmstay in Rotorua. Very comfortable room with a fantastic view down to the town and the lake and a lovely breakfast served. Maureen was most welcoming and very entertaining and made the stay really fun.
