We stayed one night in an old self contained unit. Unit smelt on entry, net curtains had rips in them, shower had hair on the wall and bottom. Coffee mug was not clean, had dried dregs and the cutlery was sticky. Remote did not work and dust on the cabinet, I did not point this out to the proprietor. However the bed was comfortable even thou broken. The grounds in general is pretty down by the stream and can accommodate a number of people. The units at the front of the complex looked to be better.
Rooms were full of big spiders, bed bugs and damp smell. We had bookings for two nights but had to leave the rooms on day one late night because staff tried to clean rooms but rooms required full pest control and cleaning. We found live active bed bugs moving when we opened beds to sleep. In photos it look really nice. Life jacked provided for kayaking were broken, too old, dirty and horrible. A big dog suddenly entered in our car and scared my kids so badly. It was our worst experience never expected.
Unfriendly staff Michael threw the phone down on me! I called to find out if there was availability and as the website says that some of the lodges are dog friendly. I was happy to hear that there was 1 lodge left and I asked if I can bring my dog along. Michael asked what kind of dog I have, my response was a large breed - doberman. He then said sorry there are too many children. I was shocked. I said that my dog is 100% social and has ever had a problem. He said sorry he can't help to which I responded saying that I'm very disappointed that they are discriminating my dog - He then threw the phone done on me! BAD BEHAVIOUR AND DISCRIMINATION, WILL NEVER RECOMMEND. My dog was with me just last weekend playing with a few kids one the beach (strangers children I will add) and she was the hi light of their day!…
We stayed here before christmas. Micheal is so accommodating or I'll say professional on his field, he tick all the right category. The place is far from four season hotel , but it makes up by feeding peace in your soul, this place is like a therapy, a good kind. Grab a book sit by the stream while sipping your tea. The price, you,ll forget that you brought your kids with you. Great value for your money. We can call this place our 2nd home. Surely we will pick this lovely place again.
We stayed for 3 nights in a kitchen cabin. The holiday park was situated next to a lovely stream and was clean and quiet. The free kayaks and dinghy was a nice touch. We enjoyed our time in the water. Michael was a great host and passionate about protecting the waterways. It is a place we will come back to if we find ourselves in Rotorua again.
