Stayed in a deluxe studio for one night and really enjoyed the experience.
The room was stylish with very comfortable beds and chairs. The bathroom was great - loved the way the loo and shower were separated by opaque glass doors.
The outdoor pool was fabulous. Loved my first onsen experience, would definitely consider a return visit.

Room Tip: The road outside is a bit noisy, but once the door is closed it is nice and peaceful in the room.

Very good value of money with newly renovated room. 3 private slots of onsen time for each room is really satisfying. Can choose among outdoor and indoor onsen choices but recommend going for outdoor one with better garden view. Location is good with walking distance to the main street of Rotorua town centre. Recommend to book a Japanese restaurant for dinner to give yourself a full Japanse experience. Great hospitality!!

Totally unexpected to find an onsen with hot spring coming from 150m below grounds. They are white in colours!!

Emily and Raymond keep the resort extremely well and they are serious in keeping the onsen at a temperature between 40-42C at all times to ensure its cleanliness and comfort when enjoying the onsen.

I have been to many onsen (hot springs in Japan) This onsen matches those top ones in Japan!! Superb!

The whole place; onsen, room and grounds are well managed, clean and tidy.

Emily and Raymond are extremely helpful and provide great information that made our visit at Rotorua very enjoyable and relaxing.

Highly recommended! We will definitely come back!!

The stay was back in Dec. Booked this directly with them, can’t seem to find them through any agents. There’s no proper confirmation or anything so I kept emailing them as I was afraid they would tell me rooms are full when I arrive. There’s just no proper booking system.

The room only does not have air conditioning, only a heater. During summer it can be quite hot, we were literally sweating in the room until at night when it’s slightly cooler. There’s no fan in room unless you request, quite troublesome.

It’s an old building too so walls are thin and no lift which is normal. Luckily my room was newly furnished.

Room comes with 2 queen beds - I specially requested for one they said all rooms comes with 2 beds. For some reason someone left their doors opened but their room only has one bed. Odd? I thought all rooms come with 2 beds?

Did not even bother to go to the hot spring as I felt insulted by the way they repeatedly tell me it’s Japanese way, no clothes bla bla even though I told them I knew what this was. They still kept going on and on about it. To avoid I might as well just don’t go. I’ve been to Japanese onsens umpteenth times and I have already told them I know what it is, but their faces changed and insisted to continue nagging - not sure what previous guests did to you. They gave me the impression as if I will break the rules. I read that they are quite friendly but definitely couldn’t feel the friendliness bit at all. Why? Friendliness doesn’t exist to Asian faces or what? I don’t know but definitely was NOT friendly to us upon check in. I didn’t feel welcomed at all, one night felt too long. Glad we left the next day. Just took it as a place to sleep and get on with life.

Given a choice again, I would definitely not book this place for sure. There’s a chance of missing reservation as there’s no proper booking system and they are not really honest about the room availability. Don’t want the chances of showing up being told that there are no rooms. The only good thing was the refurbished rooms.

I was treated like a prisoner. I got watched and monitored from outside room, spa, motel gate. The owner/management asked me: Why you are going out so late? Who's visitor, he's not allow to use the pool? The management monitor how many people are going to stay into your room. The management loved to monitor my parking skill (no nearby off-street parking). The metal entrance gate will be locked in the evening without fire emergency button. Good luck for all of you who are going to stay there in future!

I absolutely loved my stay at Terume resort. The outdoor onsen was quite beautiful the night I was there - it was a little chilly but the sky was clear with lots of stars. They also had two private onsens available, and both times I requested one it was available with no wait. The room was nice, nothing fancy but definitely comfortable. I really enjoyed having a small kitchen so I could prepare food in my room and spend more time relaxing. The owner was very friendly and helped me with every question I had about visiting Rotorua. If I'm ever in Rotorua again this will definitely be the place I stay.

Wonderful host and hostess who made us feel very much at home and gave us tips on what to visit on a budget or for free in the Rotorua area. The special part of this stay was the access to a mineral pool under the stars (separate times for men and women) or private mineral pools if desired. After soaking in the waters, our skin felt like silk and we slept like logs. Highly recommended, a great deal, accommodation which includes what Rotorua is famous for, all in the same price.

My wife and I have visited Terume often, and it always feels a bit like coming home. The place isn’t super deluxe (though some rooms have been renovated recently and are a whole level nicer), but it’s friendly and in easy walking distance of the city centre.

Highly recommended.

We had to move our stay 2 nights later than our booked date and the owner was very accommodating. The room sure brings back memory of Grandma's house, the decor, the stove; it is not the 4 Seasons. What lacks in decor was made up by the nice onsen experience. We booked a private onsen since there's 3 of us and the owner gave us extra time to enjoy it (it was not busy that evening). We slept very well that night after the mineral bath. We didn't get to try the outdoor one since it was rainy.

This is a dated motel so you might bypass it on the road, but the attention to detail and care of the owner / manager is outstanding and if it is your price point, then it is well worth a visit. Everything is kept spotlessly clean and the overall atmosphere that they create is really nice. The spa and onsen is very picturesque and the the private spas are well equipped with a shower, washing stools, soap, shampoo etc. They even turned the temp on one of the private pools for me! The room was warm, clean, furnished well and cosy. If you love Japanese Onsen, then this is definintely one of the better places in rotorua.

"Room gets really warm in summer, so you'd have to open the window or door for better ventilation. This will be problematic if you have noisy guests staying next to you. The outdoor onsen can be used privately after hours, but make sure you book it through the manager."
