We were looking for a place that was centrally located and low-priced. A complimentary buffet and complimentary WiFi were added bonuses; the continental buffet, while basic, was more than adequate. The WiFi was sufficient for checking e-mails, which is what we needed. The location was terrific as well, within walking distance of the city centre and Central Mall. The other places (mainly hotels) where we had stayed in the past were located way down on Fenton St, which meant we had to take the car out more often than we would have liked. The kitchen was very handy, e.g., a microwave for reheating pizzas and plenty of good-quality cutlery.
On the flipside, the shower was cordoned off from the rest of the bathroom by just a shower curtain, which meant the floor of the bathroom got wet - this is a safety hazard and not very pleasant by any means (this issue has been raised by others on TripAdvisor for this motel). There was no clock radio in the room to show us the time. The freezer compartment in the fridge was not functional as a result of which water dripped on to the floor of the fridge.
Notwithstanding these drawbacks, if we had to visit Rotorua again, we probably would first try this place first for a good price for a studio room before looking elsewhere. (We got the deal through Wotif.)

We stayed for 3 nights. The place was well maintained (rooms, flower beds, hot pools), very clean and many little details showed that the managers care for their customers. We appreciated the free breakfast and the service offered at reception. This motel is a bit older, some pieces of furniture, although still fully operational, could do with a replacement. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

We stayed here for 3 nights. The location was easy to find and close(ish) to shops. Bonus wifi was good value - didn't know about this until we turned up.

The breakfast had lots of variety - a help yourself thing - where everything was laid out. Toast, fruit, jam, tea, coffee, cereal etc.

The bed was comfy and the place was clean. It was nice to have a fridge and microwave.

Downsides: The pools were good, although they probably need a bit of a clean. The bathroom didn't have much ventilation and there wasn't a fly screen on the window, so if you opened the window the mosquitoes and bugs would come in, but if you left it closed the bathroom would soon smell very damp.

I'd stay here again - cheap, basic and friendly accommodation.

we required a motel within walking distance of Rotorua town in order to walk to a restaurant for dinner.
I have had many experiences of Motels in New Zealand however nothing prepared me for this.
On arrival I was advised that their on site Thermal baths were closed, however the sulphurous heat & smoke was still pumping out of the chimney .

The remainder of Rotorua was free of smell.

This was not the main problem , The room ( # 18) was decrepit , the toilet hadn't been cleaned properly for some time, the mirrors silver backing had disintegrated . The curtains were see through and as all the outside lights were on all night , sleep was difficult. The refrigerator was a block of dirty ice
We we returned from dinner we discovered that the bathroom & kitchen lights did not work.

The " continental breakfast" was tea/coffee , toast & jams , packet juice

On checking out & wishing to report these deficiencies , , was advised the owner was cleaning & did not have time

Had to stay here as I hadn't booked anything decent and Rotorua had filled up for Labour Weekend. Place was clean, just dated, tv at roof height, shower had low water pressure, no ice. Door lock was a bit dodgy and lots of street noise. They charged my card as soon as I arrived, always a bad sign. Only charged me 110 bucks instead of 130, so that's the only good thing about my stay. Reception lady was cold.

Good Afternoon, thank you for your feedback, We are very sorry that you felt your stay with us not satisfactory. as you can understand labour day is always busy in Rotorua, we have received so many guests in three days, so all apologises if you felt that our welcoming was a little bit cold, we always aim to make our guests welcome. we require payment for a one night stay which is a standard practice, especially on this week end sometimes, guests are in a rush and they don't fill the check in form properly . but we're very happy that you have enjoyed the discount . we hope to see you again in Rotorua.

I booked this motel based on overall reviews from trip advisor. I stayed for 3 nights and wasnt disappointed. The place is clean, quiet and about 2 minutes walk to the shops. The hosts are both accomodating and easy to talk to. I will book this motel again whenever I visit Rotorua.

This was our "cheapie" for the trip being half the price of some of our other stays! It was really good value and scrupulously clean - and we got to practice our French!!! The motel is old but it is more that suitable and we would stay there again without a second thought!. The on-site thermal pools were a bonus and we had several dips really felt like locals! The advice about where to go and what to see was also very good and in line with our tastes of looking for real local flavour and value rather than "touristy" venues. We had a great time!

We looked forward to the hot thermal spa that was offered and the free internet. Unfortunately, we visited the spa and found it to be less than clean but hoped the heat would've removed any nasty bugs. By early afternoon we had fever and colds by the morning. The wifi closed once the office close. The couple even pretended not to understand me at one point - they were bilingual French/English speakers. We'd moved to them after leaving a hostel which didn't have a spa. Strangely, the manageress appeared to know where we'd stayed and where I'd made early enquiries. A thoroughly depressing start to a holiday in New Zealand. It's taken 7 days for the cold to subside.

KiaOra and thank you for your review. Please accept my sincere apologies for your experience. We should maybe explain that our geothermal pools are sulfur based and therefore when adding cold water (necessary) the water appears murky (residual hardened minerals)- while totally clean and checked twice daily. Our Wifi is available 24hours a day and not sure what happened on that day. We trust the rest of your stay was pleasant and hope to have the chance of letting you experience the Sequoia on a new occasion.Warm regards
