Detailed Reviews
We loved our room. We especially loved our private patio. The tea and coffee bar was convenient. They also provided pamphlets of local attractions. The owners were very nice and welcoming. If we are ever in Paihia again, would definitely stay here.

Absolutely wonderful property with warm and friendly hosts in Louisa and Cliff. The property has lovely views out over the Bay of Islands. The rooms are spacious and very well appointed and breakfast is tasty and elegantly presented. Location is in the middle of Pahia so you can explore on foot - and easily go to the wharf and across to Russell. Outstanding.

Response from Lousia, Owner at Bed Of Roses
Responded 16 Jan 2016
From Louisa Hobson Thankyou for your review. Your lovely son was impressed by Bed of Roses and commented our home was the most beautiful house and view he had ever seen. Our magazines and books are collectors' items - the recipes and homes show an evolution of our lifestyle. Guests copy recipes and gain ideas from the publications therein. They are not news items. As you are aware we had just arrived home from a two day break and the accommodation was arranged by a fellow operator at the last moment. We were expecting a married couple and on finding it was a Father an son offered a second suite on a complimentary basis. This was accepted. There was not a welcome pack in the second suite. We are unashamedly French Country themed.

I chose to stay at Bed of Roses due to the high ratings by Qualmark and Trip Advisor and the advertised location a few minutes away from town. Frankly, we were disappointed. We had the French Cottage, one of the larger rooms, which included a little kitchen area, but although it was furnished nicely, the bathroom was quite small, although the shower was great, and the room had only one comfortable chair for sitting (also two kitchen chairs and an extra single bed), and the windows looked out over the parking area, and thus the room lacked privacy. The main house has a small lounge area available for guests with a computer, but no wifi. The dining room has beautiful views out over the countryside. In the evening, guests are offered drinks and nibbles. There were two restaurants within walking distance, one--The Pear Tree was quite a hike down a hill. However, The Pear Tree has exceptional food and I would highly recommend it. The restaurant used to be known at The Landing, the current chief was formerly at Kauri Cliffs. I believe the hosts might also drive guests to dinner if desired.
I was disappointed in the breakfast, which everyone seemed to be rating exceptional. There were some croissants, some fresh fruit, yogurt and muesli, and toast with a selection of jams--but this is pretty much what every other bed and breakfast offered. There was no cold continental platter and cheese available. The coffee was brewed, not as good as pressed coffee or coffee from a cappuccino machine which other B&B's offered during our trip. The cooked breakfast selections were varied, but the two different ones I had were poorly cooked.
To sum it up, our stay was nice enough, but there is nothing all that exceptional about this B&B that I could see, and for the price one pays, I don't see the value.

We went to KeriKeri, not knowing what to expect. The stay at Bed of Roses was such a delight. It was comfortable and classy. The hosts were so hospitable and welcoming. Cliff was standing in the rain to welcome us and made good breakfast. And Louisa re-filled my coffee as many times I liked. The place was very tidy. We stayed in the Fleur de Rose which had 2 windows outlooking at the garden full of flowers. The windows were so clean it almost felt like there is no glass even. I will recommend this place to anyone who appreciates delicacy, art, nature and calmness.
There is a lake, stonehouse, nice restaurant and parrot place within the walking distance. I really enjoyed my stay.
The Wifi signals weren't coming to the room we were at which is Fleur de Rose but who wants WiFi on a weekend away from the busy life. There was another room very close to us, but no one was staying there so that didn't bother me. Nothing else I could criticize on.

We only stayed with Loiusa and Cliff for one night, but wish we had had more time. There home is just beautiful. The rooms were very well appointed and beutifully decorated. Loiusa and cliif are such gracious hosts. We have stayed in a number of B&B's over the years and this has to be one of the best. The breakfast was amazing, so much good food. The location is great too, close enough to town to walk to for dinner but very quiet and secluded too.

An absolutely perfect little B&B for anyone's stay in New Zealand. We just fell in love with the place and the hosts, Cliff and Louisa. The house is in impeccable condition. We stayed at 5 different B&B's in New Zealand and this one had the best atmosphere.
The rooms are cozy. One of them is a bit small, but it didn't feel too bad because it had a patio door that opened to the outside. We also switched and moved into a larger room (Rose) and it was very comfortable.
The best thing is they warm reception we got every morning during breakfast. The house gets morning light and it was a beautiful view (kind of on a hill) and the food was served with such love and care.
I would highly recommend!!

We celebrated our Wedding Anniversary at this beautiful place. Stayed for 2 nights (Fri- Sat).
Cliff & Louisa were superb hosts - we felt like we were a King & Queen - on arrival with a lovely bottle of wine, to the environment friendly products (of which I am going to buy some online products from), to the extremely comfortable bed!, to the scrumptious breakfasts, to the peace & quiet atmosphere with a beautiful garden. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay & their company. Loved the accomodation, the location was within walking distance to the beach and cafes/restaurants. Enjoyed the markets in Paihia & nearby in Kerikeri.
We are keen to revisit again. You have GOT to visit this beautiful place.
Thanks to my darling husband for creating a beautiful happy memory at this beautiful place.
Photos below are the view from sitting down outside on the outdoor furniture. I was enjoying the view of nature outside on Sunday morning with great company.

Wonderful B&B and terrific hosts. Louisa and Cliff are the best B&B hosts I have ever experienced - incredibly helpful, charming and just plain wonderful. The accommodations were great and the restaurant and places to visit they recommended were all very enjoyable. We felt like we were with good friends or family.
