Great rooms but lights needs to be more brighter in bathroom area as cannot get ready because of dull lights. And the rooms are too hot. Fans doesn't help at all. But good as its located In main city .
Hake Lodge Paihia was the best backpacker I stayed in New Zealand. Not only the excellent location, that you can overlook the evening sunset of the beach in the kitchen and lounge. The kitchen facility was great, knife is sharp, stove and plate in good condition it make cooking in the kitchen enjoyable. Room as clean with nice bed, compare to other backpacker I stayed and experience, this was the best. Staff make nice recommendation of what to go in the local area too. Definitely go back for next trip.
Wash the sunrises from the kitchen and living room. Wash the moon light over the oceans. A very well located backpacker with lots of travellers. A very clean and tidy hostel. Extremely friendly staff and large kitchen and living areas. The tours arranged by the hostel is totally worth the money. I will be back for a longer stay for sure!!!
Stay overall was good. Just the parking was not for free as mentioned on the website and only 4 parking spaces available. wifi in the room was not working. view on the bay from kitchen very nice. kitchen good staffed and clean.
Stayed here for 4 nights with my boyfriend, and there are so many little things that completely let this hostel down. The staff are friendly and the communal space is big with a lovely view - and that’s the saving grace of this hostel. The dorm (6 bed) was possibly the most cramped dorm we have ever stayed in. The room was SO hot, there is meant to be a small fan with every bed - there isn’t - and when asked at reception we were advised to prop the door open to the light corridor at night? We found it a little odd that there are no age restrictions on dorm rooms and had a man in his 70s in our room, and a woman in her 50s, it’s not so much that this is a problem - but obviously this hugely changes the vibe of your stay, if I was a lone traveller, I think I would feel a bit uncomfortable. The privacy curtains, individual lights and charging ports by the beds are good. The hostel was clean enough, but not THAT clean, for 3 out of 4 days we stayed there was no hand soap in the female bathroom. It sounds ridiculous but with the current situation with coronavirus - hostels are a place where people stay who are from and have travelled all over the world - people should be able to wash their hands without having to travel to a different room to do it. This hostel is fine, but I think just improving the temperature in the room would make a big difference to people’s experience overall. Would stay here again in a private room only. …
