Large room, very comfortable and clean. The breakfast buffet was very good as was the evening meal.
Lots of tea and coffee in the room with real milk.
Lovely organic toiletries plus a gift bag to take them home with you if not used.
Guest laundry available 4 NZD for a wash ( detergent supplied) and 4 NZD for the dryer.
It is a decent walk out of the main town but nothing too strenuous.

I could not fault the service provided by the lovely friendly staff at this hotel. I let them know that my 80 year old mother had trouble getting around so they placed us in a suitable location. Always a smile. We had breakfast included in our package and they happily delivered the breakfasts to our room at a time that suited us. I'm a fussy eater and they accommodated that also. Nothing was too much trouble. Very clean, very well presented. I would highly recommend this Hotel.

We stayed here for 8 days, longer than the average guest and it was a nice base for our Bay of Islands holiday. The room was fine, cleaned daily and it was nice to have a bathtub to soak in after a long day out.

Hotel staff were friendly as many other reviews have mentioned and we had a very helpful member of staff who shared lots of pointers and suggestions of how to fill our week-long stay, it took us to places we never have explored otherwise.

We happened to get a great deal which was a weekend special that included breakfast, and they honoured the low rate price for the entire stay. Breakfast was lovely and I tried almost everything on the menu.

The only two things I'd upgrade in the room is the CD player stereo to one that is blu tooth and has a USB port, and the mattress, we had a lovely king-sized bed with a great topper but, the mattress was past its best and sunken in.

I highly recommend treating yourself to a stay here.

I stayed for 2 nights. My room was on the ground floor, on a wing of the hotel along the hotel boundary that backed on to a forest. The second door opened onto the garden with a single latch to open it and two restricted opening windows so a level of security, but I do wish hotels would think more about single females travelling by themselves, and perhaps locate them within the main hotel complex or ensure there are extra security features like an extra lock on the door to reassure single female travellers. In future I'll probably ask a hotel prior to my arrival, but not being familiar to the place I didn't know the layout of the hotel.

The bed was large and comfortable. The room tidy on arrival. Bathroom had a very noisy extractor fan which came on seconds after you turned the bathroom light on, so I tried to minimise my use of it by using the hall light instead of the bathroom light to minimise the noise from the extractor fan. The first night I had dinner at the hotel restaurant. Lovely service and good bar for a weary worker alongside a small but clean and sufficient pool.

Fish and chips for dinner with way too much batter and a plate full of chips with a basic rocket salad on the side said to me there's not a lot of love shown in that meal so I decided I wouldn't eat there again and I probably needed a lower calorie meal after the hotel one. I also saw another hotel visitor come in with a takeaway bag so clearly he'd got the message to not eat at the hotel restaurant either (in fact not many folks eating at the restaurant. Most would have a drink only). So the next night I got takeaways from Green's Thai in Paihia which had great service and good curry so would recommend that rather than the hotel restaurant (I didn't have breakfast so can't comment on what that was like).

Overall it had what I needed because I don't need much - clean, tidy room, with basic tea and coffee facilities, tv, desk and wifi.

My issue was the slightly musty smell in my room (made more obvious because I felt compelled as a sole female traveller to close my windows at night), and when I asked them to make up my room, they tidied my bed nicely, they replaced my dirty teapot and cups that I'd used with clean ones, as I'd expect. I didn't need my towels replaced but I had made tea stains on the kitchenette bench and this wasn't wiped (nor was there a dish cloth for me to do it), nor did they vacuum or mop my bathroom floor or wipe the bathroom sink and while the mess was mine, I would have liked those things cleaned for when I returned back to my room again that evening.

Overall it made me feel I could stay at a motel and get the same amenities which I'll be doing in future.

We visited for 5 nights in early January. Our room was a family room with 2 queen beds overlooking the garden. The room was fine and was as advertised.
The hotel was full for each night we stayed, not surprising given peak holiday time. The pool was great for the kids. We didn’t use the restaurant due to the proximity to the town centre so can’t comment on the food.
Housekeeping was clearly under pressure. On 2 occasions during our 5 night stay we returned to the hotel around 5 to find the room unserviced, on querying with reception we were advised that the room cleaning was prioritised based on departing guests and which rooms were required for arriving guests, which makes sense however even with this taken into account, for rooms not to get made up by 5pm isn’t really acceptable.
The standard of cleaning was terrible. Toilet rolls not refilled, room not vacuumed, no liners in the rubbish bins, despairing there being signs warning of ants, the bathroom was not cleaned and certainly not the toilet and no extra coffee or milk to replace those that had been used. All that was done was beds made and towels replaced. And to top it off a sentimental child’s bedtime toy went missing, assumed taken during linen removal. Given the prices charged, the housekeeping standards need serious attention.
Not sure we would return.

My wife and I spent 3 nights here as part of our 4 week self drive holiday last year, and what a brilliant stay it was. We had a really nice welcome at check in and were impressed with our deluxe room, the balcony of which overlooked a tropical garden. It was a pleasant leisurely walk into the town centre where there was a plethora of bars shops and restaurants
The buffet breakfasts were excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our short time in this beautiful location

The room when we checked in was a bit musty smelling but that cleared quickly with AC on. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and well maintained. A nice touch is they give you a bag to take the unfinished toiletries with you. The free WIFI is quite good and we had no issues with the signal strength.
While the bathroom is a good size the shower felt a bit cramped and there is not a lot of counter space around the sink. They do have a guest laundry available $4 per load to wash and $4 per load to dry.
There is a pool and breakfast is available however we didn’t use either.
We found the rooms a bit dark and a little better lighting would have been helpful. All in all a great place to stay, they are well located with a short walk to the beach and to the pier and downtown.

Just about 3 hours from Auckland CBD(229 kms),Scenic Hotel is 10 mns walking to the Pahia beach. 🏖️

We were 5 families with teens and their queen double rooms could accommodate 4 people in one room, quite spacious I must say.

We were on level 1 and the lush green garden view from the balcony were a treat while sipping coffee ☕

The room had a mini fridge, kettle and tea/coffee sachets.Towels and toiletries are provided too.

Rupesh- The inhouse reservation staff was helpful right from our booking process till we checked in.Very helpful, informative and professional individual.

Nelson who was always prompt with our breakfast orders was very helpful and made sure our breakfast arrived in time.

Due to recent red light restrictions, there was no buffet breakfast, however, they offered us breakfast options ( a la carte) and we were all very happy as it was sumptuous.

We stayed there for 4 days and took daily excursions to different islands and the cherry on the cake was the location of this hotel.

All in all, a wonderful experience and would recommend everyone to stay at this hotel.

Thank you everyone at Scenic hotel for your hospitality, truly appreciate it 👏

Great check in. Rooms nice & big. One of the beds was huge but had a weird slope in it so we used both beds. Bathroom was an odd configuration, if you were coming out of the shower & somebody was coming in from bedroom, all doors collided.

Well stocked with towels, cups etc etc

Breakfast only served til 9.30 during week, it was ok but bread was pretty cheap & nasty .

Happy Hour
daily 5 - 6 but only certain drinks and for New Zealand the wine left a nasty taste

Easy walking to bars & restaurants & parking although not perfect was good

Been to scenic paihia 5 times and each time we have found it spotlessly clean, the staff are all friendly, polite and eager to please. The steak on the evening dinner was cooked to perfection and we were given the particular rooms we had previously used. We could not find any negative points and very highly recommend this hotel.
