What a beautiful apartment this was. A view to rival anything in the world in our opinion. The apartment is exceptional with top class inclusions, coffee machine, gorgeous lounge area and a huge balcony overlooking the bay. Everything inside is great quality and so comfortable. A set of stairs leads down to a stunning bay to walk along or enjoy a swim. It truly is a paradise found. The owner Theo is so friendly and helpful. He cannot do enough to make your stay just perfect. We absolutely loved this stay on our month on the north island and recommend highly for a couple stay.

We had 3 nights at this excellent apartment overlooking the sea. Two bedrooms. Double and twin. The double faced out to the sea and onto the balcony. The twin was at the back. The kitchen facilities were very good. It had a sauna we did not use and washing facilities that we did use. It's about 80 steps down to the beach. There had been so much rain that the water was not at its best. The host is very welcoming and helpful. He lives above and there is another apartment below. Town facilities very close but you need to be aware of very step driveway to the property which has to be negotiated each time you go out. Walking to the top of the drive is a good workout as we had friends staying nearby and they had a difficult commute. But worth it.

Our apartment was Sea Shells and the view was awesome. The apartment had been built and decorated to a very high standard. We did have a number of problems, no wifi, no tv signal No bbq gas but in each case Theo was on hand to try and sort. There was only one sunbed and that had seen better days. So not everything went smoothly but the view was fantastic.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment - great size, large kitchen, large lounge and beautiful views. Unfortunately the access lets the place down. The properly is at the bottom of a 3 section driveway which is incredibly steep. Parking down there is shocking, if there’s a car already down the blind driveway good luck turning around. We were stuck down there for a good 40-45minutes trying to get our car (brand new Kia Sportage) up the last steep hill to the gate when leaving the property one of the days after heavy rain. Our cars both have the technology, they’re not old, and it was a real mission, we were anxious to return. There is no parking at the top, no footpath or handrails to walk it. The owner did help us but We were also told that he had never seen a thing like this before (us getting stuck) but right next to us was parked some form of ATV with 4 mega wheels either side and a pulley on the front. So you did wonder how they get on. The corners of the driveway are also so terrible we’ve both returned home with damages to our vehicles. This ended up being a stressful stay, sadly. (I will thank the owner though as on the last night we had kids with us which were not planned and he was politely flexible with that).

We stayed for 3 nights in February 2021. Great greeting from our host, who was very kind and very helpful. The room was lovely, nice decor, very roomy, comfy bed, with a great deck and views. the beach a short talk down the hill and track had lovely golden sand and very private. We walked along the beach every day and night, and it was an easy walk. If you missed the tide it was a hike up the hill!!

We stayed for three nights in a two bedroom apartment. Superb views and very roomy clean apartment. Theo was an excellenthost who couldn’t have been more helpful. The steep driveway is a bit of a disadvantage but the privacy and views are worth it. There are steps down to the beach which are quite steep and would be greatly improved if the handrail went all the way down.

We stayed for two nights at The Ferns on our honeymoon. I loved the indoor/outdoor space, and the view was magnificent. It felt secluded, even though it was part of a larger building. We caught both sunrises and sunsets, and each were spectacular. An easy walk along the beach to the town for meals - although I would recommend having a flashlight in the evening. Fair warning - there was no AC. The host made us feel welcome.

We stayed for 9 nights in the All View Suite and it was awesome. It is a very large unit with the most fantastic views of the bay. There are 2 very comfortable queen beds, plenty of storage space. The shower is very nice and there is also a large soaker tub with a view. We enjoyed many of our meals on the balcony, and there is a BBQ available. In a common area just off the unit there is a shared washer and dryer, drying racks, beach towels and a few books you can borrow. The kitchen is equipped with kettle, Nespresso machine, French press, dishes and utensils, an electric fry pan, toaster - everything you need for meals. There are grocery stores in short driving distance. At low tide you could go down the 100 or so steps to the beach and walk to tpwn along the shore, otherwise a quick drive. Hated to leave! Thanks to Theo, very helpful and accommodating.

Spend 5 nights in the SeaShell suite in March 2019. We really enjoyed the suite - great location, great views and Theo was very helpful/informative. We loved the walk, along the beach during low tide, in to town. Would definitely stay there again!

Bay of Islands Beach House is a house located in a neighborhood on a very steep hill. The ad said that you could walk down to the beach and use their kayaks for free. This was what I had hoped but it was not to be. The road in to the Beach House was narrow, windy and steep. There was no place to park at the bottom of the steep hill so we would have had to walk down and back up. We are in our mid 70s so this was not something we could do. Both have knee issues. The drive in to town was only about 6 minutes and we always found a place to park. The town is fun to walk around and there are plenty of good restaurants. We did go kayaking with a local paddling company. This was a fun way to spend a morning. I would have given this lodging a better overall rating if it weren't so difficult to get in and out of the driveway and road. Also, the house numbering system caused some confusion upon our arrival. The room was like a studio apartment with a small deck. We did our own breakfasts and we used the laundry. The studio apartment was clean and well stocked.
