Our stay at Absolute Bliss was superb. Our fully furnished studio apartment like unit had all of the amenities, such a a small, fully equipped kitchen area, comfortable furniture, a very nice bathroom, and surprises such as luxurious bathrobes. We even had access to a laundry machine which along with the laundry detergent were free of charge to use. By being located at the top of a steep driveway, we enjoyed a beautiful, calming, and unobstructed view of the Bay of Islands and the town of Paihia below. Our unit opened onto a deck equipped with everything one would need to eat outdoors or to just relax. Indoors, we found our bed to be very comfortable, and our room was quiet, so we slept well. An exceptional feature of Absolute Bliss is that there is an elevator/lift, so even senior citizens such as ourselves, and individuals with disabilities can access the unit - which itself is level. However, be advised that anyone with disabilities must have a car to drive to the top of the driveway where the main entrance and elevator/lift are located. The driveway is too steep for those who can't hike up from Joyce's Road. Parking is available near the top of the driveway, not far from the entrance. Having a kitchen with a refrigerator and microwave oven gave us the welcome option of dining in when we preferred. There was a Four Square grocery within easy walking distance and right by Four Square is the Paihia Bakery, so it was easy to purchase sweets or savory pies there to go with our fresh fruit and yogurt from Four Square for an easy breakfast and/or lunch. Being on vacation it was nice being able to eat in without having to actually cook. The extremely gracious owner of Absolute Bliss is both generous and kind. She did everything possible to make us feel welcome, and made herself available whenever we had any questions. As a long time resident of Paihia she was an extraordinary resource - going out of her way to assist us when my spouse suffered a sprained ankle. She even got as a table on short notice at "Terra", the best restaurant in Paihia. Our dinner there was truly special. You can not do better than Absolute Bliss.

We found our stay here so relaxing and the best accommodation and location of our trip, it was absolute bliss. Beautiful well equipped comfortable apartment in a great location with a view of Paihia and the bay. Marilyn was very friendly and gave us tips on what to do locally and helped us book the Hole in the Rock Cruise. Whilst it was a steep walk or drive to the house, the internal lift to the apartments made it easy to get luggage from the car to the apartment.

We (a group of 3 friends) stayed here for 4 nights. Warm welcome. First class accommodation. The views from the terrace are lovely and only 5 mins walk to the restaurants and pier. A word of caution - steep drive but with lots of room to park and turn at the top.

After negotiating the rather steep drive we received a lovely warm welcome from the owner, Marilyn. Our apartment was clean, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. We particularly enjoyed the spacious deck with a good view over Paihia towards Russell.

We could only stay one night this time, but everything was exceptionally delightful from the moment we met our friendly host. The apartment had everything we required plus all the extra touches to make it a real special romantic get away.. top quality place to stay and lovely easy to walk to and from dining around paihia. Thank you again Marilyn.

We stayed for three nights in this well equipped apartment which was well appointed with comfortable furnishings.
We had a large balcony we sat outside to enjoy our breakfast, viewed the sunset while we enjoyed our "Happy Hour" followed by a BBQ.
Absolute Bliss is a short walk to a number of restaurants and cafes and close by is The Four Suare Store where you can purchase food items, beer and wine.
Our Hostess Marilyn was most informative regarding all the Tourist destinations in the area and nothing was too much of a bother to her to ensure we had a memorable stay.
We will return.

Absolute Bliss is aptly named. It includes two beautifully decorated and appointed studio apartments (recently refurbished), with everything one could think of, and then more, needed for a short or long stay. Our stay was only 10 days in the Platinum suite and we weren’t at all ready to leave at the end of our stay—it went far too quickly. Our suite (both suites are nearly identical) included a fully equipped kitchen (mini-fridge not a full fridge) and all the amenities you would normally expect in a 5-star hotel (such as quality soap, shampoo, tissues, beautifully soft robes, coffee, tea, and much, much more). In fact, we stayed at the Sebel Auckland Viaduct Harbour (a 4.5 star hotel) in Auckland immediately before coming here and its kitchen wasn’t half as well equipped.

The deck is large and roomy, with a table, chairs, loungers, umbrellas for shade, a large propane BBQ ready for use, but most of all with a spectacular view of the harbour. Although it was a shared deck with the unit on the other side, it was very private on our own side of the deck as well as having our own set of stairs and entrance to use. We seldom saw or heard our neighbours when the other unit was occupied during our time here, and that included anyone staying in the B&B room that is also available.

The location is ideal—a short walk to the center of town, as well as both ends. Absolute Bliss is located on a hill, as are most places in Paihia, with a steep driveway. We are in our 60’s and went for a walk at least three times a day and had no difficulty with the driveway.

There is lots to do in Paihia and surrounding regions--we were overwhelmed with choices. However, in addition to touring around during our stay we also wanted to rest and relax while here and catch up with some work. This location was perfect for our needs, and my husband and I each had lots of room to work and the WiFi was excellent for our purposes.

However, the star of this place is Marilyn—a consummate hostess. She was available, without being intrusive, to offer us inside advice about the area and we benefited significantly from her insights. She had treats waiting for us when we arrived and when we departed. She serviced our apartment daily thoroughly—incredibly clean—and made us feel like welcome and honoured guests.

This was our first visit to Paihia, indeed to New Zealand, and it won’t be our last. Thank you Marilyn for helping make our first visit such a memorable one.

We enjoyed three days in this comfortable apartment with great sea views, bush walks, easy walking distance to local shops, restaurants and Four Square store.
We enjoyed the bus trip to Cape Reinga for the day and our Hostess Marilyn booked us on a fishing trip where we caught beautiful fish and enjoyed our fish cooked on the BBQ with her on our return.

We were very disappointed with this place which did not start well because we had not expected that the driveway to the apartments was what can only be described as being sheer. The web site photo does not show how steep it is. As this was booked through the AA site it would have helped if there had been a warning, certainly not a very easy driving approach.

Walking access is also via this steep driveway which we found difficult and would best be described as dangerous to anyone with a walking disability and certainly not easy to others.

Although the studio was comfortable and adequately equipped for self-catering our three-night stay was ruined by loud music being played from the neighbouring property. We were very disappointed because we had we had expected this to be quieter as the web site describes this a quiet, sunny bush setting, a relaxing retreat - which certainly wasn’t the case for the duration of our stay.

We did complain about the noise to the owner, who lives above the studios and would have been aware of the disturbance this was causing and she said she would contact the neighbour. We said that if the noise continued we would find it difficult to stay there to which she replied – that we would not find anywhere else, this being Christmas week. We had to complain again and were not impressed when the owner said what do you expect from a popular holiday area.

Unfortunately this was one of the few places that we had already paid for in advance.

We felt that the owner did not like us complaining about the excessive noise. So much so that when we checked out and went to say goodbye she was not around and we found that she was at work - it would have been courteous if she had let us know that she wasn’t going to be there when we left.

Of the 18 places we stayed in during our holiday this was the only one that had SKY TV but didn’t have SKY Movies and the free wireless internet did not seem to be available to us.

Compared to other places we stayed at during our 5-week tour we sadly could not describe this place as Absolute Bliss.

We stayed for a week in the Absolute Bliss apartments to use as a base for exploring Northland. The apartments are really lovely and have both been recently decorated so they're nicer than the photos online. Marilyn is always on hand for advice or recommendations and she really takes care of her guests. You have all the facilities you need and the barbecue out on the balcony looking out to the see got plenty of use!
