We booked a premier room at the front of the property with a sea view. As we were on the ground level we were concerned about street/traffic noise -there was no need. Our apartment had great sound insulation, windows and sliding doors appeared to be double glazed.

We had a very relaxed stay. The car was in secure underground parking with easy access. The room was roomy and comfortable. Linen, towels etc were all good quality. Two TVs, one in the lounge the other in the bedroom.

Staff were friendly and accommodating, cleaners had a great routine, came around the same time everyday and serviced room very quickly.

Close to restaurants and other local attractions.

Two slight negatives: the AC in the bedroom made a bit of noise at night even though it was turned off; and just one washing machine for guests meant that it was not always available (on one occasion the cleaners appeared to use the single machine for guests hand towels). These are minor quibbles, overall we enjoyed our stay, the chemist over the road is very helpful and the Sri Thai restaurant down the street was excellent.

Would happily stay here again.

This is something of a hybrid between a hotel and a motel. It’s quite large with many rooms and three stories. We stayed there in May, occupying a two-bedroom suite. This was quite a well thought out space with lounge, kitchenette, bathroom – no bath simply a pretty good shower/water pressure – and two reasonably large bedrooms. There was a two burner stove top, a microwave, and a dishwasher!
Two TVs, a desk which was functionally useless being occupied by one of the televisions, very comfortable beds – one queen 2x singles –a good selection of tea and coffee, and a minibar, which of course you pay for. The room has a decent selection of glasses and flatware. There is a balcony overlooking the street with a table and two chairs, which would be nice in warm weather. The room is heated and cooled by heat pumps, which work very well, but it seems well insulated anyway.
The location is excellent, right on the waterfront, and you can get some nice views I imagine from some of the rooms. It’s less than five minutes’ drive from the centre of town, in Ahuriri, a nice quiet suburb with several shops and several dining options within walking distance. There is undercover parking on a first-come first-served basis.
The staff were very helpful considering they were operating under Level II restrictions.
There is only one major problem which might be a dealbreaker for some people. Ahuriri is very quiet at night, but there is a constant noise from some machinery on site. It varies from a low murmur to sounding like someone idling a motorcycle. It didn’t bother my wife, but it did bother me to the point of keeping me awake. Other than that, it’s very, very good.

Dear GuerillaSurgeon Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review. I am not sure what the constant noise was that you experienced as we without being made aware of it we could have perhaps resolved it. We very much appreciate you choosing to stay at The Crown Hotel and I do hope that we may have the opportunity to welcome you back to Hawkes Bay in the not too distant future. Kind Regards Michele Cole

Really enjoyed our couple of nights at The Crown in the Ahuriri suburb. It’s located right on the brach. Our room was at the front with a balcony so we overlooked the beach. It’s around 3.5km to the centre of Napier via the beach walk or shorter if you go over the hill. Harbour with bars and restaurants is a 10 min walk away. Breakfast is at Milk and Honey on the ground floor. We were bed and breakfast so we got a NZ$26 per person allowance towards breakfast. A great place to stay

Stayed for 3 nights 8th till 11th Jan, paid over $1000, on the second day after being out all day ,room hadn’t been serviced, we had been told all rooms were serviced daily, rang reception and after 10 minutes of excuses were told we weren’t a priority because they had a full house the previous night . After pushing them hard the cleaners eventually serviced the room , head cleaner told us we were expecting too much and would we like to spend a day in her shoes. ?? We suspected on the first night that the sheets hadn’t been changed from previous guests as well but didn’t say anything ,, should have in hindsight. Windows and exit doors to the property were all filthy as well ,,, won’t be back ,,,

Dear Odyssey671873 Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Yes we do provide a daily room service and our housekeeping team generally complete all the arrival rooms first so our rooms are ready for guests to check in and then they complete the services, unless a guest requests that their room be serviced at an earlier specific time, in which we did not receive this from you. I am sorry your room was not serviced upon your return at 3.00pm as the ladies were about to get to it. It was done immediately upon your phone call to reception and we serviced your room whilst you were out the following days at the time that was suitable for yourself. Your sheets were absolutely new, clean and pressed sheets on your arrival as they are with ALL guest rooms and if you suspected they were not, then I would expect the guest to call us immediately. The large external hotel windows were professionally cleaned on the 23rd Dec and we clean all EXIT doors daily. Kind Regards Michele Cole

This hotel is completely overrated. We stayed for one night and paid “$900” for a so called “premium” two bedroom suite. To be fair the only thing premium about it was the price. The hotel dramatically cranked up the price because their was an event in the region. Granted I knew the price before booking but these rooms are normally priced from $380 per night so “daylight robbery” so to speak taking full advantage of the situation. Scrupulous!
Overall for the price paid the suite was very underwhelming!
Check out the photos. The dining room table was very tired and worn. In fact it looked worst than the one I had as a poor uni student. I refused to sit on the deck chairs for fear of catching something they were disgusting and in desperate need of replacement or a commercial clean. The aircon worked ok in the main area but there was nothing in the bedrooms and it was like 28 degrees! To make matters worse our bedroom had the weirdest window I have ever seen. You open the curtains expecting to see sunshine but no you literally got a wall of concrete. The window had louvres at one end, I have no idea why, perhaps it was to let in the fresh smell of concrete. The couches in the apartment need commercial cleaning ASAP as there is that gross soiled look on the arms of the couches that comes from years of hands resting on them and inadequate care.
The best thing going for the place is the view out to the sea, otherwise totally over priced and overrated!

Dear jamesbaty As discussed over the phone prior to you booking due to you complaining about the rate at the time of booking, we suggested you book elsewhere due to your attitude prior to you even staying with us and you thought our rooms were sub standard at that point. We suggested you find alternative accommodation but you still proceeded to book and stay with us! We explained about the back bedroom and that one of the windows does not open that is why the curtain is drawn however there is another window that opens in the bedroom with natural light. You need to get your facts correct before sharing on public forums. Regards Michele Cole

We have walked passed the Crown daily for the last 11 years. This time we stayed, while we packed up our cottage. It far exceeded our expectations. Our accomodation was spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable. We had no noise from adjoining units, other than the occasional closing door. As the weather was atrocious for one of the days of our stay, we appreciated being undercover to move to the carpark and to Milk and Honey. Michelle at Reception was great, and despite Covid restrictions, checked to make sure we had everything we needed. We'll definitely return.

We loved our stay at The Crown in Napier. It was a last minute booking over a busy week leading up to Labour weekend and we had to move rooms to get 4 consecutive nights which was fine. The staff made the move effortless, and both room types - a Heritage room for one night and a one bedroom apartment for the rest - were super clean and comfortable. There are numerous good eateries within walking distance, it overlooks the sea and there is a long, flat boardwalk along the beach. The staff were friendly and efficient and I would recommend it.

A lovely hotel just outside of the beautiful town of Napier. It’s location opposite the swimming beach meant it was reasonably quiet and had all the facilities you could want. Our room with a sea view and balcony was well furnished and very comfortable. Bike hire and good food from Milk and Honey below topped off a great one night stay.

Booked the crown hotel for its location near to the harbour.

Decided on a heritage room for some character, although i think any of the rooms would have been nice.

Newer rooms appeared to have balconies, Our heritage room had
No balcony to sit on and very little view so from that perspective it was disappointing. Had to keep curtains closed for privacy and to keep the draughts from blowing accross the bed.

For a one night stay it was in a great location and an easy stroll to the beach and harbour.

Paid $198 room only based on 2 guests, would stay again but would just stick with the standard rooms.

Dear Donnahutton1 Thank you for recently choosing to stay with us. On our website it does explain that the heritage suites do not have a seaview and only a 'juliet' balcony where as you mentioned our contemporary rooms do have a larger outdoor balcony with outdoor furniture. I am pleased you like the location of the hotel on the waterfront and within walking distance to great cafes and restaurants. Thanks again Michele Cole

We highly recommend this place for a family break away.

Plenty of space for a family of four ( two young teens ) and great to have the kitchenette to make our own breakfast etc.

We got a great deal for a two bedroom suite over three nights. Everything was spotlessly clean and nice to have robes etc.

Staff were friendly ( don’t be put off by the telephone manner as the service on the ground is actually very friendly ). We made good use of the DVD movies after a long day travelling. We didn’t go to the small bar but the outside area with fireplace looks nice.

We usually stay within Napier CBD but much preferred this area as it had plenty of restaurants and bars within close walking distance.

We will definitely come back!
