Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our room was never cleaned from one day till the next, when I asked about this, I simply got an "I'm sorry " about that. No attempt to correct the situation was made.
The photos on the next imply the motel is next to the water, and it is not.

Arrived and were welcomed by Dave - very informative anf friendly. Room was a good size with the usual cooking facilities, very clean and a good shower in the bathroom.
Easy to get into Napier with its many shops, bars and restaurants. Dave recommended the local fish and chip shop which we tried one night and weren'd disappointed - delicious.
All in all a good motel.

3rd time I have stayed at The Rocks and again very good value. Arrived from Auckland 6.30pm, no reservation and the owner was great. Suggested a Studio for NZD$99.00 inc GST and even offered me a complimentary beer. Check in took 2 minutes as all my details were in their system from last couple of times.
Bed very comfortable and room quiet although I was in 14 which is closest to the road.
Will return as it is hard to beat in the price Vs benefit stakes.

Booked for a night for an upcoming concert in 9 months. Booked thru booking .com with instant payment and confirmation. Within 2 hrs of paying the owner phoned and rudely stated that rooms had been overbooked by 12 and booking was cancelled. Any attempt to discuss this was met with “not my problem take it up with booking.com’ who are currently helpfully looking into this. If he had even attempted to apologise it may have been different. But he couldn’t care less. Would absolutely not recommend based on owner David’s revolting attitude

The review makes me pleased I was not able to accommodate you, you are an overbearing person who was not prepared to listen, I was expecting a vindictive review, so congratulations for once you met someones expectations.

I have stayed in many hotels around the world and unfortunately this is by far the worst review I have ever had to give on Trip Advisor. Where to start? Over priced small room with an awful musty smell, paint chipping off in the bathroom with scum in the corner of the bath and on tiles, bulky furniture and dated decor, unfriendly man on the front desk, poor tv reception, hard to get vehicles in and out of the cark park, grime on the carpets that left my white socks BLACK! I would not recommend staying at this hotel - there are plenty of other great places to stay in the same area.

This review reflects more on the reviewer rather than the reviewed, our bathrooms are fully tiled with no painted surfaces, other than the roof and the door which are spray painted and in good condition. Our levels of cleanliness as seen from previous reviews are very high. Our carpets are cleaned every day and steam cleaned every three months. Each unit has a car park and why anyone would have difficulty going in or out of it ,I can't explain. Our décor is modern and the rooms are not musty. Our Televisions are one year old and have good reception. If you had this many genuine problems you should have complained at the time and given us a chance to fix them, rather than writing a malicious review which is patently not true.

This motel is well situated on the west shore of the lovely Art Deco town of Napier, close to the sea. The decor, furnishings and especially the beautiful bathroom with its spa bath were of a better quality than many motels, but the room itself was very small, with nowhere to actually leave 2 suitcases without potentially falling over them. There was no kitchen, just a microwave and toaster, yet we paid more than in many motels in New Zealand. I think motels need to get their priorities right. After all, there is only so long you can spend in the bath.

Thank you for your review, we always welcome our guests feedback. The room you booked is described on the site you booked on, as with all other sites that we use as "Mini studio". This is self explanatory. All our other rooms are bigger than this , hence the description of" mini" for the room you chose to book . Our prices reflect the seasons and availability,we feel for the standard of our Qualmark rated 4star plus motel, our prices are at the low end of the rates of similar motels. We do have limited kitchen facilities in all rooms with kitchen units, microwave, toaster , electric fry pan, fridge and tea and coffee making facilities, again we do not advertise full cooking facilities.

Stayed over Easter weekend. Checkin prompt & managers courteous
Perhaps the smallest we stayed in but still had everything that we required. Even a nice private outdoor area
But oh that window needs to go. Even though it is of a frosted type it lets in heaps of light when some goes to to the bathroom at night & forget sleeping in as the sun streams through the actual bathroom window & impacts on this window. Why on earth this was put there amazes me it serves no purpose that I can see.
Large KS bed 2 lounge chairs along with table & chairs in the kitchen area.
Beware NO cooking oven or hob only a microwave which was ok with us as we were not there to cook.
Noise from unit next to us when they were opening & closing the cupboard doors due to the bottom to top opening type that the cupboards are & therefore hard to close quietly especially when they were doing so around 3am in the morning.
No space for toiletries in the bathroom except the floor. No drawers no cupboards nothing. The shower stall has a curtain (who has curtains this day & age) which can stick to you ughhh
It was ok for 1night with a good fish & chip take away around the back street
Free WiFi which was excellent to have

This was our 2nd stay at At the Rocks and not only do we recommend this hotel to our family, we have also made our 3rd booking so I think it is fair to say that we like it!
We have a toddler so stay in the suite with 2 x queen beds (1 in the lounge, 1 in the bedroom) and the suite is more than adequate and safe for us. The room was very clean - I did the normal Mum thing and got down to my daughters eye level and there wasn't anything that I had to get off the floor etc so I was happy.
Comfy, warm beds with additional blankets if required plus electric blankets and a generous sized bathroom.
The kitchenette is perfect, for quick meals - you wouldn't cook gourmet meals in it, there are fantastic restaurants only a short walk away and there is ample storage for the paraphernalia that you end up bringing with a small child.
Meeanee Quay is a busy road, but the traffic noise didn't bother us at all, even on a Friday and Saturday night.
David is lovely, very friendly and he was always pleasant when we dealt with him.
For the purpose of my rating, I have marked the swimming pool as excellent, even though there isn't one as the beach is just across the road.
There is no restaurant, but there is a breakfast menu which is pretty good, so I have marked restaurant as excellent also.

We turned up quite late for a one night stay and were met by absolutely wonderful hosts!
We got to the room and the heating was on to warm the room for us (it was freezing outside). We had requested a cot which was provided free of charge and the hosts took it upon themselves to also give us a high chair which made feeding our almost two year old much easier for the first time in NZ. Again at no charge. Considering most of the places we stayed at in NZ charged us 10-30 dollars for a cot and generally forgot it despite the request or just dumped it in the room for us to set up, At the Rocks was a welcome change.
The room was also excellent. Bed was comfy and the bathroom had the nicest shower that we had experienced in NZ thus far. Bath was a huge spa that our son had a ball in.
A great place to stay that we regretted only being at for one night.

"The family Studio 1 (2 Queen Sized Beds) in separate rooms is very quiet and the beds were extremely comfortable. There's also a TV in both rooms and an excellent Spa Bath as well. Very clean and there's even a wee patio off one of the rooms so you can sit outside."
