Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you are looking for a good clean, quiet place to put your head down for a night or 2, look up Archies Bunker. 1 Street back form marine parade, flanked by a boutique pub and a Wine bar.
On street parking right outside, metered parking form 8am till 6pm, after that it's free.
If like us you rode to Napier, there is 1 MC (Yes free Motorcycle parking) bay right outside Archies.
Checked a few times each night, but the bike were safe as.
Archies isn't new and the floors could do with hushing up, the staff were excellent and the room absolutely spick and span.
Their rates are almost 1/2 what others are charging and for a bit more you can upgrade to an ensuite room if you wish.
Would not hesitate to stay here again, thanks folks at Archies.

Room Tip: An ensuite room? Room 1 , ground floor right beside the foyer, could not get better.

Great location especially for Art Deco fest. Affordable and has free breakfast on weekends that is really good! Staff really really helpful and kind. Good socialising areas and a bookshelf where you can swap books. Has a kitchen which could be cleaner but obviously that’s dependent on the guests using it and not the staff. Bike hire good. Art Deco style outside. Museum is right next to it and is free (and really interesting). There are private rooms and shared rooms. Met some lovely people

This accommodation was in a great location and was clean, there was a nice big communal area, and WiFi available. However we stayed in an 8 bed dorm room where 5 of the girls there were long termers who had all of their stuff unpacked in the room and spread out everywhere, so we felt like we were intruding in their bedroom. Because they had work the next day, one of the girls told us to stop talking, this was at 20:40, so not even late! Might be a good idea to have long termers in one room and another room set aside for people passing through. Also the beds were quite wobbly, could do with tightening some screws!

One of the worst hostels I have ever stayed in. Extremely dirty, smelly, seems like some parts of it haven't been cleaned in years. The kitchen is tiny and half of the stuff there is not working. Took the management 6 days to fix a fridge, obviously everyone's food went to waste. No apology about that.
I hope this place shuts down or the management changes soon.

we had booked in for two nights but ended up leaving after one. I don't think this place has ever been vacummed an our room had a big pile of what i can only say was flakey human skin down the side of one of the beds. The toilets were dirty, the showers were dirty (and not even working).
Its such a shame as location is perfect, but i would advise anyone to avoid this place, we couldnt wait to get out of there.

First off: Archies is in a prime location. If you don’t have a car, it’s walking distance to a lot of Napier. Heaps of restaurants and bars around and cheap. So if that’s what you need, you’re good. Second: We stayed in a 8 bed dorm for 3 nights, there were two power points.. one tucked behind a bed that someone was using constantly and another that the rest of us had to use. The room was almost big enough for 8 travellers. Wasn’t any lockers for bags or anything so bags were kinda sprawled out on the floor because there wasn’t much space to tuck them away. I’ve stayed in a lot of back packers through Europe and the quality wasn’t as high as any of those. The kitchen was big, but also gross. A lot of appliances that don’t work properly out on the benches taking up space for no reason. Pretty grimy too. Also the fridge got unplugged while we were there so a lot of our food went off. There was a note on the fridge from previous people warning about the fridge. But it was turned around so we didn’t see it. If it was advertised we wouldn’t have put our food in there! The lounge area was probably the best part. Pool table and tv and a good area to chill out. Big lounges and comfy. It wasn’t the worst hostel I’ve been too. But wasn’t the best either. So it’s up to you, if you want a better quality, stay somewhere else, if you want cheap and awesome location, stay at Archies. Land lady seemed nice though and pretty knowledgeable.

Stayed here 4 nights.Thought the place was Ok except for the showers until my last morning ..The owner got extremely angry with me because i checked out 30 minutes late and was moving to a different backpackers in the area.Initially refused to give me back my key deposit until he evenually relented.Very immature behaviour indeed.

Tina running Archies is awesome, friendly and kind. We were in need of work and she found us jobs within 24 hours. We cleaned for accomodation and worked outsite of the hostel. Everybody is friendly. Archies has everything you need and it has the best location in town. We will be back to visit again someday.

The name "bunker" fits quite well. My 10 Bed dorm only had a small window you couldn't open all the way so it got pretty sticky at night. Beds are comfy and clean however.
Kitchen is a bit messy but sufficiant for short term. Staff at reception is very friendly and if you are looking for a job as a backpacker there is a good chance they can get you one.
If you are only visiting Napier for a short while it will do the job just fine since you will probaply not be spending so much time in the hostel itself.
I moved to another hostel after 5 nights simply because I found the place to dark.
