Watea Lodge began in March 2014. Watea means Welcome in Maori. My intent is to create a new level of accommodation experience. The house is new and set in a tranquil rural aspect, but central and close to all that the Hawkes Bay has to offer. The rooms have super king sized beds with luxurious linen. There is a guests' wing which is separate from the main house. This includes a beautifully furnished guests' lounge. The heated pool, hot tub and decks create a prestigious resort ambiance. Guest amenities include free hi speed WIFI, outdoor TV and a gym. Two rooms have en-suite bathrooms.

Spent two nights last weekend at this lovely guest house - wish it could have been longer! We enjoyed the ambiance, comfortable king size bed, Iris's home cooked breakfast and the beautiful surroundings - the only drawback was the weather! We hope to be able to return in the summer and enjoy our breakfast by the pool and then chill out with a swim after sightseeing all day - something to look forward to.

From arrival to the end of our three night stay we felt nothing but spoilt by our wonderful hosts Iris & Ewen. They provided wonderful home cooked breakfasts & the added bonus of cooling down in the pool after our jaunts around the stunning Hawkes Bay region , was just fantastic. The bedroom & ensuite facilities were amazing. We will certainly be back for more fine hospitality! We wish Ewen & Iris all the best for their new venture.

My mother daughter and myself stayed here on our three day cycle around to Hawke's Bay with Takara trails. Iris was a lovely host and it was lovely to stay in her home which is well set up for guests in a wing of her home which has a lovely central courtyard. The beds and rooms were lovely, we had a very restful sleep and appreciated the lovely breakfast in the morning with homemade bread before we set off for our next days ride on the trail.

My wife and I stayed at Watea Lodge for 3 nights during perhaps the worst weather Napier has seen in some time. Snow fell just outside Napier which rarely happens. Iris was a gracious host arranging for an extra heater for our room and inviting us to spend time in her living room between the gas fireplace and wood burning stove. She even invited our son and daughter in law (who live in Napier) over to warm up as their place was very cold. The house has a wonderful flower garden, fruit and vegetable garden, outdoor patio, swimming pool and outdoor TV for watching programs while you lounge in the hot tub. And that's just outside. You are staying in state of the art million dollar home. I would recommend Watea Lodge to anyone!

Very good experience overall. Caring hosts going out of their way to make guests feel at home. nice drinks and cheese plate by the stylish pool. Homemade yummy brekkie including fruits from the garden! Bikes are available for guest wishing to ride to Napier. The cIty centre is a good 10 min drive.

We really enjoyed the warm welcome from Ewen and Iris. We enjoyed a lovely happy hour with them in their poolside courtyard. The location was convenient to Napier and includes Iris's beautiful flower garden. The rooms were private, spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious as well. Highly recommend when staying in Napier.
We booked a wine tour with Ewen, who took us to top Hawke's Bay vineyards for tastings. The lunch tasting at Church Road was great. He also took us to TeMata where the 360 degree views were stunning. Ewen was very friendly and informative about the area.

This B & B is first quality. We stayed with Iris and Ewen for six days and they helped make every day start out great. A wonderful and different breakfast and good chats every morning. This is a must for the Napier/Hawks Bay area. You can't miss a stroll in their lovely garden and a swim in the heated lap pool. With only three rooms you must book early, but it is most worth your while. Of all the places we stayed in New Zealand this was by far the best! Thank you Iris and Ewen for a wonderful and relaxing stay.

Thank you so much for your gracious comments. They are greatly appreciated. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. The Horse of the Year events and visting friends kept you busy. You didn't have time to use our bikes to get out to the nearby bike trails or to visit the wineries. We try to ensure our guests feel welcome and to ensure pre dinner drinks and breakfasts are memorable. We feel very privileged to have wonderful people like yourselves stay with us, it makes it like hosting friends rather than staying as a business. I have never written a review on Tripadvisor but I just HAD to open an account just to let you all know good my stay was. I stayed there with my girlfriend for 2 nights. Our hosts, Ewen and Iris were really friendly and our needs were totally taken care of. We also learnt that they used to travel really often over our long conversations and they definitely know the important aspects of having an excellent BnB.
Home cooked breakfast was really delicious. The rooms were clean, modern, and all amenities are provided for. You could literally move in with just your suitcase. Oh! The beds are really comfortable to sleep on. I had a really good rest with those fluffy pillows and blankets. Its like living in a 5 star hotel.
A pity we didn't utilize the pool as we were too afraid to step out into the cold even though it was heated. Will definitely be back during summer. If there's a place in hawkes bay... This is it. Excellent location close to town with good hosts... Theres nothing more you could ask for.

Was lucky enough to spend 3 nights at beautiful Watea Band B. Ewen and Iris were wonderful hosts and the breakfasts were very delicious and satisfying. Had the weather been a little kinder to us, we would have loved watching movies while dipping in the spa. Never mind, we will definitely be back! Thanks Ewen and Iris.
