Room 8 on the 2nd floor, had what looked like a new bathroom, spruced up clearly on a budget. No shower recess it had a metal soap and flannel holder slung over the shower side, shower looked new but had a black chip in it so I think it would have been purchased on the cheap, same with the vanity, nice but about 4 hairline black scratches in it. The bathroom door was just terrible old chipped with no door barrel…..it needs replacing. Sadly the light outside the door stayed on all night and the roller blind was 2 short on both sides, as a result the light shone through lighting the room all night long. The towel rail was lovely, metal and held about 4 towels, sadly it was not a heated towel rail which one would expect - the towels on arrival, felt cold/damp. Being a long weekend we paid $200. Really not worth $120. This place needs work. The car parking is on a first come first serve basis with about 6 parks “reserved” again for this price you would expect better.

Room Tip:Look at Shoreline Motel 2 doors away, a lounge, bedroom, spa bath - and cheaper than this place....

Always reliable for good, comfortable accommodation. It’s always the more affordable place to stay along Marine parade and we’ve chosen the Edgewater for our place to stay 4 or 5 times now over the years. It’s not flash as such but it’s clean, great location, good price, friendly staff etc. yes it could do with a few upgrades but those are not essential. Will happily stay here again on another trip to Napier.
Free parking, walk to the water, town and restaurants/cafes. Nice views across the road to the water. Everything you need for a comfortable stay. A little noisy with the road (but all along there most probably are!) it is a bit dated but nothing to take away from an enjoyable stay. A heater was provided that warmed the room well, daily house keeping with friendly staff who were more than happy to help.

Room Tip:Older rooms mean you can hear other rooms showers etc so a little noisy but for it’s price...

The location of this motel is excellent. Directly opposite the beach and very close to the shops of Napier. Whilst the room was dated, it was extremely clean and had a super comfy bed and pillows. The best thing about this motel is the manager Gaigan. He was very friendly and helpful on our arrival and when the cyclone storms hit, he was wonderful. When a disaster strikes, a person's true character is revealed. Gaigan is a man who is caring, honest and an exemplary manager who did his very best to help everyone despite being concerned about his own family and friends. He cooked on a BBQ for guests, he tried to find out information when there was little being disseminated by authorities and he was calm and reassuring. When there is an abundance of accommodation in a town, customer service is what makes one establishment stand out from others and this is why Edgewater Motor Lodge gets 5 stars, due to Gaigan's outstanding customer service.

An excellent motel with very hospitable people! The facilities are clean, tidy and fresh with good mattresses and beds. The location couldn't be better: right on the beach and the city center is less than a 5-minute walk, mega supermarket a 10-minute walk.

Building is cheap and run down, zero sound proofing, the owners are tight e.g. one teabag/person/day, minimal soap etc! Stains on the carpet, very poor room layout like a long dark passageway, I would not recommend this place all for $170 a night in provincial NZ!

This place could be an absolute gem, however it is not, which is a pity. The location is perfect, but the rooms are not what as comfortable as they meant to be. Our room was small, almost claustrophobic, with a small bathroom and a rather small bed too. The amenities are very basic in general for this age, especially for the price they charge.

It was a perfectly fine stay. Nothing special, nothing terrible.
It’s a convenient location, it has everything you need and has parking.
Ground floor room, which had some noise from the room above when they were walking around and being loud at 1am. But that’s not the hotels fault.

We arrived the day before cyclone Gabriel hit Napier. The manager (Gaigan) welcomed us and was friendly and helpful. Our room was great - a view of the sea (the property is directly on the sea front), plenty of space, great furniture and kitchen facilities, spotlessly clean and with a very comfortable bed. The most critical thing to share though is what happened once Napier was hit by the worst of the cyclone. We were due to leave so checked out and headed for Wellington only to find the roads and bridges closed due to the flooding. We had no choice but to return to the Edgewater where Gaigan again welcomed us, tried to find alternative routes and once it was clear this was not possible, gave us the room back. There was no power at this point (no cell service and no internet). He knew no more than us but updated us as and when he could by listening to the radio I and trying to speak with local friends. No government information or local council information was forthcoming, even for him as a business owner in the area. When it became clear we were in for a long haul with predictions power would be off for at least a week, he begged and borrowed a bbq grill and a gas bottle and looked to provide some hot food for all guests who wanted / needed it. He boiled water this way so we could have a hot drink also. We were all so very, very grateful to him for looking after us at a time when we were all stranded far from home with no knowledge of the local area or how to find out what was happening. The group of stranded guests all made the best of a difficult situation, supporting each other and joining together to share what food we could get, drinks and information and general chat to forget the situation for a few hours as best we could. (We created our own little ‘beer garden’ in the car park so that we could all be together. Gaigan was an integral part of this. This is absolutely the best place to stay in Napier, for the accommodation itself but also because of Gaigan. You cannot put a price on this level of service.

A bit of jiggle for a car park (Seems one can reserve, which no doubt extra cost) We tried to to leave car parked. Clean room, with morning sun, and over the road from Marine Parade activities park. Very noisy at night with almost continuous truck traffic, if light sleeper. The small things make a difference. Wall mirror in lounge doesn't suit shorter than 5'3" people. If you think you can do check in lounge take a portable stool! Cleaning staff pleasant, but obviously appliances not checked regularly. Iron had burnt plate, and iron board very flimsy. Did get replacement iron. Would rather be block or two further back next time, with afternoon sun.

No air conditioning. Even small fan supplied was inadequate.was like living in a greenhouse. And we are paying for the pleasure Small room. Bed uncomfortable Did not vacuum our room in the 5 nights we stayed. Found this very unhygienic so wouldn’t stay here again. In hindsight should have checked about air con as many properties in the area do have this facility
