Detailed Reviews
One of the best, friendliest receptions was a great start to a great stay. With the car-park full the easy assistance with alternatives was appreciated. This is a modest refurbished property but the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The cleaning staff are obviously committed - it was scrupulously clean. The location is great on Clive Square with all of the CBD within a 3 block walk particularly the restaurant area. Just another block to the beachfront, conference center and museum. Overall a lovely stay.

We had a difficult start to our 2 night stay. We arrived at 11.30am after our flight to find the door locked. After using the after hour button the door open & we waited 10 minutes before the lovely house keeper helped us to store our luggage. Reception opens at 12 noon, a note on the reception desk would help to inform guests.
We had a great size room which included a very comfortable 2 seater recliner & a desk with a chair! A comfortable king size bed & a great shower. The aircon system is unusual where it is connected to the room above & below your room, the first night the aircon turned off & we couldn't get it to turn back on, the second night was fine. The hotel is on a busy road but it is quiet at night. It is a ten minute walk to anywhere, supermarket, take away, beach & shopping.

The hotel is in a good location, there are a lot of great restaurants within a short walking distance of the hotel and Napier beach is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The room was very spacious, clean and the bed was very comfortable. There is a car park under the hotel but there are limited spaces. If you are there on a Saturday the Napier farmers market on right beside the hotel. Overall a very enjoyable stay

I stayed at this property for three nights. The property is located on the outskirt of Napier's shopping/dining/entertainment precinct. It seemed to be the only positive point I could relate during my stay.
When I checked in, the front desk tried to overcharge $60 on the room bill and said that it was what their system showed, until I showed the booking confirmation they sent me. What was underwhelming was their attitude that they could only be correct until they were shown otherwise.
There is a lack of secure parking on the premises. If you can't find one during your stay, you will have to use on street parking nearby. There is a pub and some restaurants near to this hotel so it may not always be easy to find a parking slot. Also, finding a safe on-street park can be a bigger challenge esp. at night when some people may have drunk a few more pints from the pub. It is definitely a concern for those who drive and stay.
The room was in a decent size and the furnishing was fine. The windows and balcony were a bit dated and filthy. A splash of new paint and occasional deep cleaning should have fixed them.
The service during my stay was fair. Daily room cleaning was late (done after 3pm) but with labour shortage it was understandable.
I would not consider staying at this place again because of the problems mentioned above.

The name has been changed, but everything else about this hotel is still very old and very tired. All interior decor is extremely drab and dated. Fittings throughout the rooms are similarly that which was installed at the time the hotel was built - a long time ago. The hotel lift broke down on day 2 of our stay and was still out of action when we departed on day 4. Our room fronted on to Tennyson Street, so was very noisy through the night. The off street parking provided is very limited, and is also very tight to get into or out of. Parking out on the street is ok - but after 8am you must pay for on street parking. We had stayed at this hotel about 4 or 5 years ago and would definitely not have returned had we not been fooled by the name change. We were also somewhat fooled by the fact that the hotel was charging over $230 per night - about $100 above what we would expect to pay for this level of accommodation.

Dear PinkLewis, Thank you for taking the time to post your comments with regards to your recent stay with us. I am sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations. It was most unfortunate that the guest lift broke down on Sunday 3rd of January. When we were made aware of an issue the service contactor came in to review the problem. A part was required and as it was over the holiday period this did not arrive until Tuesday. I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue and please once again accept our apologies. The expressotel completed a refurbishment at the time of taking ownership of the hotel 3 years ago. Just over a year ago additional refurbishments and rooms were added to the property. I note that you had booked to stay in one of our family access rooms. The bathrooms in these rooms have not changed as they have been designed for specific requirements. I would recommend that you look at our Parkside King or Deluxe King rooms as options. The hotel provides 10 internal car parking spaces. We also have overflow parking available in the car parking building across the road from the hotel which we provide with our compliments. You can also park on the street, and after 2pm on a Saturday. Parking on Sunday is free all day. The Napier City Council also allow for free street parking on public holidays. As with most cities car parking can be a challenge at times but we believe we are more fortunate than most to have a number of options. Once again we appreciate your comments and look forward to the opportunity of welcoming back to one of King room types the next time you visit.

The hotel is located close to the main restaurant and shops which is convenient. However, it is situated on a very noisy traffic street - I had to wear ear plugs to drown out the traffic noise. Also across the street is a park that occassionally has an event that may include music well into the evening that you may or may not like. The rooms are spacious and clean. However, the AC does not work and the hotel does not have maintenance on staff to fix an issue. My room was hot and when I reported the problem, I was assured they could somehow reset the system to fix it but nothing was done and the hotel did not offer any kind of compensation. Cannot recommend this hotel.

First thing, it was annoying that the couple they were serving ahead of us was charged for $598 and for us $650. The place is reasonably clean but there are molds in the corners. They only provided us shampoo/conditioner all in one so this is what we used for body soap. We requested at the time of booking for extra pillows, none were given. We can't request for something when no one is at the reception. The place doesn't have enough car parks so you need to park across the road. They don't provide breakfast neither. The room is very small and I expected better amenities for their room charges. There is a fridge and coffees/teas.

Hi there, I'm sorry that your experience didn't live up to your expectations. Cleanliness clearly is an issue here and one that we've put areal focus on since seeing your review. It is disappointing to read this. I take on board your other thoughts as we look to change some procedures and communication. Regards, Graeme

I'm a sales rep on the road so stay at a few motels. This one was amongst the worst. There was no microwave or even basic utensils to heat or eat any food - when I asked if I could heat something in the restaurant microwave or if they were still serving I got a flat no and no offer to assist in anyway. The service was poor and the lady at reception was just plain rude. Parking was inconvenient.
I won't be staying here next time I am in Napier.

Hello Kate thank you for your review and feedback. Were sorry you didn't enjoy your experience with us. As a Hotel, not a Motel, it is not usual to provide cooking facilities. We do have some rooms though which can booked ,such as our apartment and suites that do have a microwave and some other cooking facilities.

I've stayed in Expressotel in Napier a few times over the last couple of years, and the quality of the rooms & service always meets my expectations.
Good international quality rooms, and a great location.
The only drawback is that the hotel reception is not fully staffed, and for many hours of the day you need to use an intercom outside the building to speak to a staff member (if you need reception services).
This alone is the only downside to an otherwise excellent hotel, with easy access to Napier town, and also the port.
Well worth a stay.

Thank you for your review and feedback about your recent experience with us. We're delighted you enjoyed our location, and the quality of our rooms. The Hotel operates on a express hotel model, if reception is not manned guests are able to ring from either their room or reception and the call will be answered by our reception team at our other hotel Art Deco Masonic, just down the road. Your call should be attended to immediately, so the level of service you receive should not be compromised. We do hope you'll come back and stay with us again.

Was in a brilliant location, very clean and modern, comfortable bed, really friendly and helpful staff, with good Wi-Fi, and parking available.
We had booked online for the Elton John concert at the Mission winery. Hadn’t seen a single review but knew it had recently been refurbished. Initial thought was that it might be a little pricey, but all accommodation was a premium for such a large event in the city. Not sure how their normal rates compare.
Really enjoyed the stay and the convenient location. Thanks
