2021 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
Winner of the Art Deco Supreme Award. The owners of Napier's County Hotel wished to combine the qualities and ambience of some of the finest hotels in the world. They have achieved this by incorporating fine service, fine dining and luxurious accommodation in line with 1930's Art Deco characteristics of Napier. The County Hotel is situated in the centre of Napier which is considered to be the 'Art Deco Capital of the South Pacific' and has captivated the emotions and senses of countless admirers. Originally built for the Hawke's Bay County Council in 1909, The County Hotel is one of only two significant buildings to have survived the massive 1931 earthquake. Faithfully refurbished as a boutique hotel, the County Hotel now stands as Napier's premier Hotel. The hotel is home to an extremely popular, multi award winning Wine Street Restaurant, the superb Churchill's Champagne Lounge, an intimate library, well-appointed function areas, conference facilities and eighteen luxurious guest rooms and offer a variety of accommodation packages. Come and enjoy this architectural masterpiece with its atmosphere of conventional luxury and allow yourself to be pampered by the attentive service of our devoted staff.

We stayed here for two nights. what a lovely boutique hotel, staff where so friendly and accommodating. We had the most amazing meal the first night, so had to rebook for the next night too. Would definitely recommend a stay and meal on your visit to Napier.

Having returned again here, it was great to see they were still giving fabulous service and a quality experience even thru these tough times. It’s rarely that you can rate your stay at 10/10 but we certainly did this. Everything was perfect from the small, thoughtful things in the room to the fabulous meals and attention we received each day and night. The staff were warm and friendly and so professional. It was a delight to meet Chris and here about the phenomenal work that had been put in to make the hotel so fabulous. Truely a dream come true! Well done! I do hope the industry turns around to normal again soon to give you the success you so rightfully deserve. Many many thanks from the tow of us. A super experience in a super place!

Room Tip: Be sure to take something nice to wear in the elegant bar and restaurant. This is not kiwi casual!

It was quite nostalgic staying in an old and historic hotel. Didn't expect my kids to like it but they did. They especially enjoyed the library where my youngest played her first game of chess. We stayed in Tui room for 2 nights and didn't have any problem whatsoever. The beds (they placed another single bed as we booked for 3 pax) were comfortable and the room, including the toilet, is very clean and has no foul smell. Angela and all the staff we met during our stay were all so friendly and welcoming. We had a wonderful time.

This is a lovely, nicely furbished historic hotel in an excellent location. Good amenities and comfortable beds and the port in the Library added to the whole. The breakfast arrangements in these Covid times worked very well while offering multiple choices. We also dined in the restaurant on excellent Beef Wellington. Mask wearing was faultless. But a really special mention must go to how kind and helpful the staff were in responding to some minor (but to us) important glitches and our sincere thanks are due.
