Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stopped here for breakfast, which was fabulous. Also worth popping inside and using the facilities. Completely gorgeous place proper art deco theme throughout everything. Right on the front so a good spot for people watching and to see lots of classic cars drive by.

The Masonic is THE place to stay for the Napier Art Deco weekend but it can come at the cost of a good night's sleep in certain rooms. We were in 138 which was right over the Rose Irish Bar. During the Art Deco weekend you expect a bit of street noise from people returning from various events and spill overs from bars but no one needs YMCA blaring out at top volume at 5 to 2 in the early hours of a Sunday morning. After padding down the stairs, I let the person on reception know that it was about time the bar packed the music in and a word from the night manager of the hotel got the music turned right down. We could still hear it but it was a vast improvement from the previous volume. The hotel is wonderful and the balcony fantastic to relax and 'people watch'. But certain rooms could do with double glazing to cut the noise down. Cheers to the wonderful receptionist who re-booked us for the 2025 Art Deco festival in a room further away from the bar so we may avoid having to suffer The Village People next time1

Such a lovely appointed art deco hotel true to the period. Our room was spacious and quiet, bed was comfortable. The hotel has a restaurant within and adjoins an Irish pub which has great basic pub fare. Car parking is on street. Seaside location, centrally positioned and easy walks around town.

The hotel is beautiful stunning, although surrounded by roads in every direction, so there is a lot of traffic noise. We paid for a deluxe studio and had mistakenly thought we booked a balcony room to find out there’s only a few of these, there is a communal balcony. The bathroom is separated from the bedroom via two doors. Our room had a connecting door and it sounded like the people next door were in our room, talking, flushing the toilet walking around and showering, meaning they could also hear us. We were facing Tennyson Road, the noise from the road is very loud at night (Saturday especially) with cars blaring music and enhanced exhausts till late, then woken at 5am Sunday with the road sweeper then a motorcycle group turned up for breakfast revving their engines for about half an hour. Monday a truck was Outside at 6.30am. On arrival we off loaded our luggage at the loading bay and used their allocated parking which is in a public parking area (about a five minute walk) with spaces reserved for guests. We had to lift our luggage (multiple heavy suitcases up the eight stairs, got the lift to the first floor to find another staircase down to our room. Unfortunately no one to help. Great central location nicely decorated and clean. There is a kettle fridge Iron and board in the room, no safe. Limited place to store clothes no shelves or drawers, there is a wardrobe but only three hangers. WiFi isn’t great if you’re reliant on it. Returning after being out 4pm I mentioned to reception our room hadn’t been serviced and told it soon would be, at 5pm had to wait on the terrace as our room was being serviced. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this hotel if you have to carry lots of luggage and want a good nights sleep and privacy.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room but I’m not sure there are any. We were on Tennyson street

Really enjoyed our stay. We have stayed many times before but this was our first time at the art deco weekend. Would have loved to have had a bigger room but in the big scheme of things, it didn’t really matter as we weren’t in it that much. It was great having access to the balcony for watching the events. House keeping was excellent. I managed somehow to put crumbs on the floor every day ! Each day the floor had been cleaned and the whole room looked spotless each time. Have stayed at other places where they haven’t re done the floors. Definitely THE place to stay for the art deco festival….

Loved the style of this hotel, situated perfectly in Napier, close to the Art Deco centre and a stones thrown from the waterfront, pier and numerous eateries. The room was very small, and the bathroom even tinier, but we just about managed for the 2 nights we stayed. Had we been staying longer, this would have been an issue for us. Very little storage space, hangers etc. There is a beautiful open area at the top of the building, partly covered partly open, where you can sit for some quiet time, reading enjoyable drink etc which was great to enjoy. A small library also available with a few books. Staff were pleasant enough and efficient. One downside we did find, and out of the control of the hotel, was that there were numerous cars driving round into the early hours, with noisy exhausts which made sleeping difficult, as the hotel is on the corner, the cars drive round both sides. This happened on both nights we were there. Also council vehicles in the morning can also disturb your sleep.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, most rooms are road facing and traffic noise can be a problem.

An amazing trip with an amazing Art Deco stay at the Art Deco Masonic Hotel. The Art Deco room was beautiful (although it wasn’t totally Art Deco :)) Saachi looked after us and overall we were very happy with the service. Location was perfect and bang in the centre.

Lovely old hotel with view of the water. We could step out of our balcony doors to a lovely shared deck. We stayed only one night, but our stay was pleasant. Air conditioner / or plumbing was bit noisy gurgling at night. If you want nostalgia in the heart of Napier - this is the place for you.

Amazing location with the aquarium nearby along with plenty of restaurants to choose from. We were greeted with bubbles upon arrival for our honeymoon which was a nice touch! So nice to watch the sunset and sunrise from the balcony. We booked direct so parking was free so that's a plus!!
