Nestled in the heart of the city, the Art Deco Masonic Hotel captivates guests with its central location, making it a breeze to explore nearby attractions and culinary delights. Its attentive staff and pristine rooms come highly commended, and the hotel's 1930s ambiance and ocean-view verandas offer a charming retreat.
However, critiques often point to the additional parking charges and the lack of certain amenities, which some feel do not justify the price. Despite this, the hotel's unique character and spotless environment leave a lasting impression on its visitors.

The Art Deco Masonic hotel is in a great location and has plenty of historic character. Rooms (superior) are on the small side however the bed is very comfortable. The hotel only has a breakfast service at weekends and has paid for parking within easy walking distance. If you want character and a good central location but with some compromises then this hotel is for you.

The Masonic is THE place to stay for the Napier Art Deco weekend but it can come at the cost of a good night's sleep in certain rooms. We were in 138 which was right over the Rose Irish Bar. During the Art Deco weekend you expect a bit of street noise from people returning from various events and spill overs from bars but no one needs YMCA blaring out at top volume at 5 to 2 in the early hours of a Sunday morning. After padding down the stairs, I let the person on reception know that it was about time the bar packed the music in and a word from the night manager of the hotel got the music turned right down. We could still hear it but it was a vast improvement from the previous volume. The hotel is wonderful and the balcony fantastic to relax and 'people watch'. But certain rooms could do with double glazing to cut the noise down. Cheers to the wonderful receptionist who re-booked us for the 2025 Art Deco festival in a room further away from the bar so we may avoid having to suffer The Village People next time1

Hi there, Thank you for your notes posted here. Whilst disappointing to hear about the music, I'm glad you came downstairs and mentioned it and that it got remedied quickly. Looking forward to seeing you next year.

We had some American visitors and decided to spend a couple of nights in Napier. No question about the Masonic Hotel, my husband (being the Kiwi) has fond memories of it way back. It has a great location, right there close to the centre, walkable. There is a drop off zone for luggage, there is a car park about 200 metres away which is handy as parking is at a premium in Napier. We had the Art Deco and Royal Suites. The Art Deco led out on to a balcony. Both very very tastefully furnished in the art deco style, everything one would need in the suites. The Kitchen bar was great for meals as was the Rose pub and although the hotel was not open for breakfast mid week there are two very nice cafes just up the road. As both couples are "getting on in years" it was very nice to have somewhere private to relax in between checking out the sites. Yes a gorgeous stay.

The hotel is beautiful stunning, although surrounded by roads in every direction, so there is a lot of traffic noise. We paid for a deluxe studio and had mistakenly thought we booked a balcony room to find out there’s only a few of these, there is a communal balcony. The bathroom is separated from the bedroom via two doors. Our room had a connecting door and it sounded like the people next door were in our room, talking, flushing the toilet walking around and showering, meaning they could also hear us. We were facing Tennyson Road, the noise from the road is very loud at night (Saturday especially) with cars blaring music and enhanced exhausts till late, then woken at 5am Sunday with the road sweeper then a motorcycle group turned up for breakfast revving their engines for about half an hour. Monday a truck was Outside at 6.30am. On arrival we off loaded our luggage at the loading bay and used their allocated parking which is in a public parking area (about a five minute walk) with spaces reserved for guests. We had to lift our luggage (multiple heavy suitcases up the eight stairs, got the lift to the first floor to find another staircase down to our room. Unfortunately no one to help. Great central location nicely decorated and clean. There is a kettle fridge Iron and board in the room, no safe. Limited place to store clothes no shelves or drawers, there is a wardrobe but only three hangers. WiFi isn’t great if you’re reliant on it. Returning after being out 4pm I mentioned to reception our room hadn’t been serviced and told it soon would be, at 5pm had to wait on the terrace as our room was being serviced. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this hotel if you have to carry lots of luggage and want a good nights sleep and privacy.

Thank you for taking the time to post your thoughts. With regards to noise, we've mitigated that as best we can, but as I'm sure you understand, we can't control the traffic. Yes, the main hotel entrance has stairs, but we're always happy to help with luggage and assisting guests. Did you ask for assistance? Your other comments, we take on board and I thank you again for this. Regards,

This is the perfect place to stay to complete your Art Deco experience in Napier. The hotel has been thoughtfully updated to 21st century standards without losing any of its period charm. We stayed in a Queen Room which was compact but had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Comfortable bed, good pillows and fresh linen. Tea and coffee making facilities. Mugs and pretty blue tea cups in keeping with the era. Iron and Ironing board. The bathroom was tight but had good lighting for makeup application and good water pressure. Ate at the restaurant twice and were happy with our meals. 10% discount as we were hotel guests. Attentive service from our wait staff. Parking is offsite but staff at reception were more than happy to store our suitcases in the luggage room while we collected our car. Parking $15:00 per night. No issues at check in or checkout. Central location. Would recommend.

Ideally located on Napier’s waterfront, the hotel is within walking distance of the Art Deco Municipal Theatre and the shops of Emerson Street.
Eating a hearty breakfast overlooking the ocean is simply incredible. The National Aquarium of New Zealand is just a 10-minute walk from the hotel, so I was able to enjoy a stroll down Marine Parade on a sunny day with a light breeze that made the temperature perfect.
Each room features a unique design in the 1930s Art Deco style that Napier is famous for.
There is no parking at the hotel, but it is easy to find a parking space on one of the nearby streets. Parking is free on Saturdays from 2pm, Sundays and public holidays.

We stayed one night before flying to Wellington. Check in was a breeze, the staff was excellent and we loved the art deco features in the hotel.
The rooms were renovated with the bedroom having lots of art deco style but the bathroom was more modern - which we appreciated.
They hid a power cube with usb ports, which was helpful.
Parking was one block away and east to get to.
You can’t beat the location for waterfront access and shopping nearby. Some good dining options as well. Only downside is Napier goes to bed early.

Loved staying in Napier, such a lovely place, great vibe and staying at this hotel just completed the stay. Friendly staff, lovely room, we were in room 116 which hubby booked as had french patio doors opening out onto a roof type terrace where there were seats overlooking the street and the sea where you could sit and have a cup of tea in the fresh air or maybe a glass of wine. We had a 2 night stay here which really helped you to get a feel for the place and meet the lovely locals . Went to the museum opposite which was free and really interesting to listen to the survivor accounts of the 1930 earthquake here (and nice gift shop too). Nice walk along the promenade and the gardens, nice shops. There is a restaurant and bar here called KKitchen which is accessed through the hotel and has a kiwi/Indian twist and despite its varied reviews was very nice for a meal if you do not want to venture too far. There was no breakfast on site, the restaurant only opened for breakfast at the weekend apparently but there was a nice cafe called Adoro just a couple of minutes walk up the road serving cooked breakfast and french pastries which was very nice. The room was quirky and lovely with tea , coffee, milk and fridge. The bed was a little on the firm side for us, could have done with a topper pad really, sheets and pillows were nice and crisp. Very quiet hotel. Elevator to upper floors. If arriving by car, pull in in front of the hotel, there are 3 free spaces whilst you check in and then the car park is a couple of minutes walk away. Would highly recommend.

This is an historic hotel so stairs, odd hallway layout, noise from hallway and great architecture. The deluxe studio we were allocated had patio doors and window for fresh air but air conditioner was better for musty odor. Bedroom was large enough with step up to sink area curtained off from bedroom then pocket door to toilet and shower. As someone else reported, no trash can in bathroom area. Furniture stained. Bed comfortable, Staff very helpful.

Staying here now on a Tauck tour for 3 nights. This is our first night and since owner seems to answer here maybe he will help . The room was not clean when we checked in. The bathroom is tiny and a tub shower combo makes it difficult for my husband to access with a bad knee. I called front desk and requested a different room. Was informed hotel is full, no other rooms. Housekeeping will respond to cleanliness issue. Manager arrived promptly and told me his team will do a complete clean tomorrow, he is training his supervisor. Front desk arrived with a 3 foot ramp to assist with getting in tub but it took up all the floor space in bathroom so we declined. He did attach a handle on the glass so we appreciate the help but it is still a tiny bathroom in a not completely clean room. I would not recommend staying here ever and hope Tauck does a better job next time as this is a 2 star hotel at best.

Hi there, Thank you for your thoughts. I was aware of your situation upon arrival on Friday and at the time we did all we could to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Due to a full hotel, we couldn't move you to another room that would be suitable and you were made aware of this at the time. I'm glad that our team could assist with the step and hand rail and I trust the rest of your weekend here was enjoyable. Regards, Graeme
