Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

WOW, such attention to detail. Felt like royalty, Jen and Mark are such wonderful hosts. Lovely breakfasts and the perfect touches for Valentines Day. Our first B&B experience, how can others compare!

The lodge is actually and extension at the back of a rather large home with a very large yard. The extension is completely private from the owner's home. It comprises a large two bedrooms with modern on sute baths a sitting area with a flat screen TV and a full kitchen plus a laundry room equipped with a washer and dryer. While breakfast is not provided the full size kitchen has all the necessary elements for creating even the most sumptuous meals. The refrigerator was filled (included in the rate) with a plentitude of breakfast (fresh farm eggs, milk, juices, mineral water, cheeses, cold cuts, honey, preserves, etc.), coffee and teas were also available as were two bottles of local wine. Cookies and bread were also available and facilities for making toast. Good wifi connection and ample parking were also available. We were the only occupants and felt privileged to have this home away from home. The owner's hospitality and care showed throughout. Though a bit out of the city of Napier, all the local attractions, the town, wineries and the beach can be easily accessed by car.

We stayed two nights at this B&B while on a driving/golf/sightseeing vacation of New Zealand. We would rate it 6 out of 5. The house is in a very quiet rural location, surounded by fields and sheep, including one special sheep called "Titey". There is a story there; ask Jenny. The four guest rooms are immaculate, beautifully decorated, all have their own outside entrances, and, of course, washrooms. Mac is a builder by trade and has done a fabulous job on these rooms. He has also built an outdoor covered patio area complete with massive fireplace, wood burning pizza oven, BBQ, frig, etc. We had two wonderful dinners with them in this facility. Jenny's breakfasts were great, and much more than we could eat. Jenny and Mac are fun and friendly people. We would highly recommend this place to anyone. It is a true hidden gem.

Lauchlan Lodge is a must stay if you are visiting Napier, although a little out of the city it's location is in a tranquil setting among orchards and vineyards. Jen and Mark's welcome is like no other for its' sincerity as you are welcomed into their home. The rooms are extremely well appointed, exceptionally well decorated with superb attention to detail. Their home is spotless.
Jen and Mark go that extra mile to make your stay outstanding, from the breakfast, which is a work of art in itself, to the welcome chocolate on your return from dinner. I cannot recommend Lauchlan Lodge enough; by the way-breakfast will see you through to dinner!

We stayed in the Silk Suite for one night. The accommodation was on the smaller size but well decorated, clean and comfortable. Jen our host was very nice and super accommodating. Our breakfast was very good.

We stayed at the Garden Cottage for the second time and again these 4 days were an extraordinaire experience. We were so warmly welcomed and looked after by Jen and Mark that we would have loved to stay longer. They both did a great job to create a special atmosphere in this apartment which they furnished so beautiful and harmonious.
We are already looking forward to our next holiday in New Zealand when we will be here again.
Many thanks from Heinz and Gertrud, Germany

We stayed in the elegant garden apartment for 4 nights and have never experienced such 5 star hospitality. What you see in the photos is really what you get - the garden apartment is truly a luxurious and beautifully decorated apartment, with great furnishings that make your heart melt. Jen and Mark have created an exceptional home in beautiful surroundings. John and I were always well fed with delicious baking, and a wonderful breakfast (not to mention the lovely pavlova). I would recommend this lodge over any 5 star hotel as you will get completely spoilt and looked after. We really found it hard to go back home as Lauchlan Lodge is truly an unforgettable paradise, and we would genuinely love to go back.
Thank you again!
John and Frey

We are all totally unwound and relaxed as we left after another amazing night away from home......good food, great breakfast and comfort ++++ thanks once again for our secret hideaway treat. Even took the small person and she loved the gardens, cows, sheep and of course Buffy was the perfect companion for her.
