Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having travelled north/South Island; I found this camp site to be the best I have come across to date. The location is reasonable however the facilities are what makes this stand out. The kitchen/bathing areas were spotless and staff helpful when finding a site in the shade.

We've stayed at Kennedy Park a number of times over the years: its clean, reliable, familiar. Our recent trip however was really disappointing. After a long day in the car we arrived at 3pm to be told our accommodation wasn't ready. We asked when it would be and were told 'we don't know, we'll txt you'. With three kids in the car this wasn't a good situation. I asked if we could be let into the park to use bathrooms etc, all of which seemed to be a hassle. Our accommodation wasn't ready until 6.45 by which time the kids were well over bouncing in the playground. We were all cold and tired, and just needing a cup of tea. The office staff were apologetic, saying that the cleaning staff were slow "and being given a hurry up by the manager". I think there is a bigger resourcing/rostering issue to be resolved. When we shut the curtains for the night the cleaning staff were still going on other units.
We will be back to Kennedy Park, hoping that things are more sorted on our next visit.

Hi Grace, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to read that you had to wait for your room until 6.45pm, we are extremely sorry for this as we do not wish this experience upon any of our guests. We have been extremely busy and with 91 rooms to get through it is a mammoth task for our cleaner. There is no issue with the rostering it is purely staff being sick or unable to work. We have hired more staff to help us through these busy times and we have a Recruitment Fair coming up next month. Again we do sincerely apologize for your wait and we are pleased that you will be returning to stay with us again soon.

We stayed here two nights in a “architecturally” designed villa for $200 per night. Now this is the pricier point of available accommodation so yes, we did have high expectations.

What we liked:
The shower pressure
The king bed
The make up remover towel
The heated pool & jumpy trampoline

What we didn’t like:
Heat pump filter doesn’t look like it has ever been cleaned.
The mould in the shower could easily be fixed with a quick spray.
The kettle was disgusting - not usable.
The deck was dirty.
The lounge fold out was dirty.
One trampoline was covered in bird poo.
The playground equipment was damaged.
The lady on checkout didn’t even ask us how the stay was.

So yeah, we won’t stay again at that price point and if you do choose to stay you may as well down grade to a cheaper room and don’t waste your money!!

I recently stayed here twice in a non powered single tent site. The first night was New Year’s Eve costing $63 for one person the second night was 7 January and the cost had marginally reduced to $56!!! After staying in 18 resorts/holiday parks around New Zealand this was more than double I had paid anywhere else clearly showing that Kennedy Park is a price gouging rip-off. It is clear to see why their tent sites are half empty and therefore this organisation is adding to the freedom camper problem this country faces. I can understand charging expensive rates when full and demand exceeds supply allowing for dynamic pricing principles and revenue yielding to be applied but demand was very low judging by the many vacant sites. On top of that the ablution facilities are aged and were unclean one bathroom had toilet tissue all over the floor for 12 hours showing a cleaner had not been near the ablution block. (oh yes they are refurbishing in 2020 😉)

On a plus side if there is one the WiFi connection seems good across the whole site.

I even commented to the reception staff on the cost and they agreed as they get many complaints it seems. I have previously stayed here as well but will never again until they can charge market rates.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to read that you were disappointed with our rates. As you mentioned in your feedback, the reason for the two different rates is because we work on dynamic pricing, which is dependent on our occupancy levels. Our base rates are for a minimum of two people. Our rates are reviewed every year and taking into consideration our level of service and market rates such as - Rotorua $71.00, Lake Taupo Holiday Resort $75.00 and Papamoa Holiday Park $68.00 per night per site. This is our high season period therefore the rates are reflecting this time of the year. We offer $49 per night per site during the low season. We guarantee you the best lowest available rate if you book in advance. We are not just a campsite. We offer Free unlimited WI-FI, Free Heated Swimming Pool, Playground, TV/SKY Lounge, Free Gym Facilities, Games Room, Onsite Restaurant & Bar and much much more. Unfortunately, you will not find this type of level of services with Freedom Camping. We are aware that our communal facilities are tired and old and this is why they will be demolished in April 2020 to make way for a new re-build.

Kennedy Park
I booked & paid in full & received a receipt accepting booking for 2 nights’ accommodation on the 14th October for the 13th & 14th November. I believe that to be a contract. It rained heavily on the 9th and caused localised flooding. I was rung on Thursday 12th to say Council had taken control of Kennedy Park & my booking cancelled. No offer to find alternative accommodation. The Mayor later claimed it was suggested I contact their ‘I Site’. Wrong. With a Council controlled park and ‘I Site’ it should have been their responsibility to find suitable replacement accommodation.
I took 4 days after the rain to ring me, i.e. the day before arrival, with the excuse the damage was worse than first thought. Poor initial assessment by council staff of the situation?
If Council deems to have the right to cancel bookings, then this should be listed on their web site / booking form. The Mayor claims in future they will quote: ‘providing information about where customers can find help with a new booking.’ They should be not just helping; they should be sourcing suitable accommodation for those they displaced as they did for the flood victims.
I feel for the flood victims, and while they can possibly get some support from family / local resources, not so travellers / tourists. By Friday, 13th - my arrival date - the town seemed to operating as normal.
I feel sorry for the good citizens of Napier who try and make travellers welcome, just to have their efforts tarnished by such treatment of the town’s guests. For me, I will never again consider Kennedy Park as a possible place to stay.

Dear Guest, As mentioned in our recent communications and phone calls with you, we would again like to apologize for needing to cancel your booking due to the extreme flooding events in Napier recently. Kennedy Park staff were operating in an unprecedented and rapidly evolving situation. A state of emergency was in place, with some of our own staff also affected just as other residents were. Staff were needing to find accommodation very quickly for dozens of traumatized families and this need was required over several days as properties were assessed. For all customers affected by the cancellations due to flooding, phone calls were made to advise them and refunds were given. During these calls, staff also suggested that customers approach Napier I-SITE, whose staff were advised of the situation, and were ready to help displaced Kennedy Park Resort customers find new accommodation. This was the most efficient way of managing this, and the I-SITE are fully equipped to deal with large amounts of accommodation requirements. We are sorry that you feel aggrieved by what has happened, despite this, we would welcome your visit to Kennedy Park and Napier.

Whilst the facilities were nice, this was one of the most expensive places we stayed during our two week road trip and there were definitely other places we stayed that were far better value for money. Our experience with the reception staff was so poor that we nearly turned around to find somewhere else to stay. Unlike other holiday parks, we were told that some of the facilities were only open during certain hours (not 24 hours) which wasn't ideal when we were arriving late and leaving early.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to read that you were disappointed with our rates and staff. While we are having our new communal facilities built we have hired some portable facilities which we do have to lock so that they are not open to potentially being vandalized. Our Reception is open 24hrs so if you do need to use any of our locked facilities our staff member will happily open them up for you. When our communal facilities have been finished in December, everything will resume back to normal. With the amount of facilities that we do provide and the games room, Sky/TV Lounge, Gym, Swimming Pool, Restaurant & Bar, we do feel that our rates are justified. We appreciate your feedback. and we do hope that you will return to stay with us again in the not too distant future.

We stayed in the 1 Bedroom Holiday Unit for perfect for just mum, dad and our 3 year son. It had the main bed in the 'living' room (with TV) and the separate bed with 2 single beds to shut away the child.
I would suggest requesting a room NOT on the ground floor as the soundproofing in these rooms are very minimal. I could hear everyone upstairs who apparently liked to stay up past 2am at the kitchen table dragging their chairs along the floor.
The grounds were great though with plenty of entertainment for pre-schoolers with the playground, tramps and heated pool all onsite.
Wifi was pretty poor and didnt really work so ended up using my own data
Stay did the job

Kennedy park is a great place but unfortunately we were in a ground floor room and the noise from above was awful. The sound just amplified through the floor making it really difficult for us and the children to get to sleep. We did ring to request a room transfer but there were no other options available. So unfortunately we checked out a day early as we were so tired and had a long drive home. Such a shame as it’s a great place. I’d go again but would rather camp. I have fed back to management that they should let people know if they are being booked into a ground floor unit. The units would also benefit from storage and at least a drying rack for togs and towels.

we had a camp site booked for the Rod Stewart concert, unfortunately this was cancelled but we decided to get away for the weekend anyway, and upgraded to a kitchen cabin at the same time.
Everything feels lovely and new, our cabin had a large fridge, gas hob, full oven, microwave, jug, toaster etc. Only thing missing was a dishwasher but that’s what kids are for!

The shower / toilet block also felt brand new, only complaint being you have to press a button to get water and it didn’t last very long, so you do get a bit of a workout if you need to wash your hair.

kids love the bouncy pillow and pool which was lovely and warm. As keen chess players, my final suggestion would be to make the squares bigger on the outside chess game so it’s more to scale. perhaps remove the paving stones and go all the way to the edge of the square, you could paint the squares on a sheet of plywood even.

Look forward to returning next time we visit napier.

Stayed here for 4 days after coming across it by mistake and being hesitant to book due park not being high up on Google. However, the park is specaticular. Powered site was huge, all the facilities are brand new, has 2 swimming pools (1 heated), restaurant on site and a short drive into Napier. 100%recommend this to anybody looking to stay in Napier! Loved it!
