Our room was a suite and quite comfortable. From our room and the large porch the views of Napier and the sea were wonderful. Parking was problematic but a solution is on the works. Catherine, our host, has a a great opportunity, almost a responsibility, to highlight the historic nature of this building as one of the few survivors of the 1931 earthquake. The place should be plastered with old pictures and commentary. All in all a good experience for us.

Old wooden house overlooking the seafront beautifully restored. Superb room with en suite bathroom and a lovely communal lounge with a long balcony. Unfortunately the weather was not great otherwise the balcony would have been a great place to chill out with a book and a G&T.
Catherine, our host, was a mine of useful information on places to go and the best restaurants. One of the best breakfasts we had on our 4 week trip. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. Yes, that balcony is a great spot on a good day to read, have a G and T and/or just watch the waves come rolling in! So pleased you enjoyed your stay. regards Catherine

Sea view lodge is at the end of a narrow road on Bluff Hill and when you get there you are looking out over Hawkes Bay albeit with a new hotel just beneath you. However this does not spoil the ambience of sitting out on the balcony looking at the sea whilst being in the middle of the famous Napier Art Deco town. Catherine was very attentive and informative and we thoroughly enjoyed her continental breakfasts. Our en suite room was clean and spacious and we enjoyed the character of the very old building perched on the hillside. We were ableto walk to many good and one outstanding restaurant and had the best fish and chips in New Zealand at Emporium.

We have stayed here three times now and would't stay anywhere else in napier. Each time we've stayed we have booked the largest double, which has beautiful seaviews but it is still very reasonably priced. The whole property is lovely.
The first time we stayed Neil was our host, and the second two times it has been Catherine one of the owners. Everytime we have had huge amounts of help with finding the best restaurants, things to do etc, and they have been booked for us. They'll also often turn your car around for you on their very steep narrow drive- I have no idea how they do it! Breakfast is lovely with a good range of things to eat. In summer you can eat out on the balcony overlooking the ocean.
The only people perhaps wouldn't recommend the B+B to would be those with limited mobility, as there are a far few steps to walk up the get to it from the beach front.

Had a wonderful 2 night break. Catherine and Evert are so friendly and incredibly helpful without being overbearing. From booking our wine tour with vinny (excellent), dropping us off as mission winery for a lovely dinner and putting us in touch with a local mechanic!
Our room was very elegant and had lovely views and a huge comfy bed. Living area very stylish and plush with a great terrace. Continental breakfast was lovely. Overall probably the best B&B we have stayed in.

My husband and I stayed here while visiting Napier - the accommodations were great - we were upstairs, and the living room area adjacent to our room made it feel like we had our own apartment - with lovely views from the balcony. Our hosts Catherine and Evert were gracious and accommodating (they even picked us up from the airport, and dropped us off at the Intercity train stattion for our next connection), with many suggestions for us during our visit. They even arranged a wine tour for us of some Hawke's Bay wineries, which was right-out fabulous, and we had a great time, and bought a bunch of wine as a result. Great breakfasts too. The location is perfect and we were in walking distance to everything - shops, restaurants, the beach. My husband went on runs along Marine Parade every morning while we were there.

I would like to return to Napier at some point, and when I do, I will definitely stay here again. I recommend this place highly to anyone wishing to visit the Art Deco city of New Zealand, as well as have some great wines while here!

We got there at the end of a rainy day, and our host will tell you to bring anything for the 4 seasons, should you come in NZ :-) Walking distance to city center, this quiet and cosy place is just so nice ! Although our bathroom was not in our bedroom, the latter was just so nice with an astonishing sea view ! Not talking about the breakfast which was just amazing: you'll have it on the balcony looking over the sea side ! We loved it !

Stayed for two nights in this lovely period property. Catherine, the owner, was extremely hospitable and friendly. She helped with luggage, gave us some valuable advice and made phone bookings for a restaurant and an art-deco guided tour. The house and our room (Green Room) were comfortable and spacious. Good quality cooked or continental breakfast.

This B&B is the upper level of a renovated old Victorian home that survived the 1930 earthquake. We had a 2-room suite with ensuite bath. There is a nice common room with a porch that overlooks the city and the beach. The house sits above the town, and there are steps right outside that lead down to the waterfront. Good workout for returning from dinner!. The owner, Catherine, was very informative about local attractions, wineries and restaurants. She served breakfast to order in the morning, which was wonderful. Great central location. No complaints at all!
