Having spent 3 nights here our one regret was having to leave. Malcolm & Ellie are the most helpful yet unobtrusive of hosts who provide a warm welcome, the best of advice, and serve wonderful food prepared by Malcolm with great charm. The Lodge is extremely comfortable in every way and we can not recommend it highly enough!

Breckenridge is an absolutely excellent BandB. The accommodation is first-class and all rooms look out over a vineyard.
Just a short stroll from the Villa Maria winery for wine tasting and a short drive to Napier.
The hosts were extremely friendly and accommodating. The hosts also provide (at extra cost) an exceptional cordon bleu-quality option for dinner.

I smile nostalgically reflecting on the immediate grandeur of BRECKENRIDGE LODGE.
Malcolm and Ellie sincerely welcoming The four of us, as if we were home. Their passionate preservation of a prolific lush garden, as soft mauve Agapanthus escort the pathways. The blanketing green vineyard, entrancing the landscape. Endless enjoyable repartee of easy company dinner guests, in the handsome dining room, as food bursting with flavor and aroma tantalize, along with the doting artistic pairing wines of our delicious degustation extravagance. Two nights of blissful luxurious sleep and fresh garden breakfasts from the hens and fruit trees.
With the sound of sand gravel crunching under the car tyres, we wistfully departed from our splendid sojourn.

We can only echo what others have said below in that Ellie and Malcolm were the best hosts we have encountered in all our travels. From the welcome on arrival to the time they spent with us guiding and planning our three days with them they were so genuine and funny and felt like really good friends that we had known for years.
Incredible food (best we ate in all four weeks of our travels) with provenance and recipe discussed before each meal. Huge comfy bed, beautiful bathroom products and everything you need to feel spoilt. We were lucky enough to have a room with balcony overlooking the vineyard where we sat with a cup of tea (and G&T kingly brought up by Malcolm when we arrived) or sat in the middle of the night when we had jet lag. All the recommendations made were brilliant and ensured we made the most of the area including where to stop on our way down to Wellington. We loved eating together, we laughed and learnt so much from fellow guests from all over the world picking up tips on what are the must see spots in NZ.
We were very sad to leave here and cannot recommend this beautiful home enough. Thank you Ellie, Malcolm and all your lovely staff.

We had the pleasure of a two-night stay at Breckenridge Lodge as part of a whirlwind North Island escape over Easter weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed our time at this beautiful accommodation. Malcolm and Ellie are the consummate hosts, and go the extra mile to ensure that their guests are well looked after. The lodge itself is truly the love-child of Malcolm, who built and designed much of it himself—even to the point of designing the remarkable door handles on the front door. He is also the chef, taking the bounty of his expansive gardens and turning it into meals that would be very much at home in any Michelin-starred restaurant.

The Hawkes Bay Area is full of attractions of all sorts, from scenic vistas to wineries and fooderies and the charming Art Deco town of Napier. You could do no better than to enjoy these many charms from the comfort of Breckenridge Lodge!

Breckenridge Lodge is a 5 star homely residence overlooking the most picturesque vineyard that is a wonderful view to wake up to in the morning. It is situated in a lovely area with the towns of Napier, Hastings and Havelock North all nearby. Ellie and Malcolm are great hosts and the food, cooked by Malcolm, is exceptional. Just perfect.

The moment we pulled up to Breckenridge I fell in love. The most welcoming greeting when we arrived, I didn’t want to leave. They think of everything- from water bottles, canteens to take with us during the day, soft towels, turn down service including chocolate and the cutest serving of water, beautiful flower arrangements in every room, wine upon arrival, delicious snacks in the afternoon, incredible views, the best water pressure in the bathroom ever, a grapefruit tree which means fresh squeezed grapefruit juice in the morning, delicious breakfast and property filled with flowers, fruit & much more growing. Ellie and Malcolm are the most wonderful hosts. Malcolm’s vast knowledge of food and wine was so interesting. Our visit was part of our honeymoon and it was such a special part of our trip. For someone who doesn’t usually repeat trips quickly, I hope my husband and I can visit Breckenridge soon. Even though it’s halfway around the world, there’s no place else I want to be.

5* all the way. Reckenbridge Lodge was recommended to us by friends as a must stay venue when we visited NZ. We were not disappointed. Malcolm and Ellie were fabulous hosts. Our room was superb with stunning views. We opted for the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing and the food was divine, the wine, sublime. Great company as dinner is a shared experience. Whilst not cheap, if you want to experience hospitality how it should be down, go. You will not be disappointed.

Right from the moment we pulled into the driveway of this beautiful lodge Malcolm and Ellie made us feel welcome and at home. No request was ever too much and all measures were taken to ensure that our request/s were met. Of course the food was absolutely to die for. Five courses for dinner and three for breakfast, I would have no hesitation in recommending Breckenridge Lodge to anyone.

From the minute you turn up and get a warm and friendly welcome from Malcolm and Ellie to the minute you leave you will be treated as a friend, rather than a guest. As others have said, Malcolm is a gracious host and the home he shares with guests is just lovely.
We had the 5 course menu with wine pairings, it's not cheap but it was an amazing experience and the food was lovely. Malcolm goes through the ingredients and how they have been cooked and explains about the wine to go with it.
Breakfast is all home cooked with fresh and sometimes more unusual ingredients and it was all delicious.
Our room was perfection, and the surrounding gardens and views complete a memorable stay.
Highly recommended.
