Post Covid lockdown we got a great rate from motel website to stay. On arrival the young woman was professionally polite but not overly helpful merely telling us our room was upstairs and giving us a key. We returned a few minutes later to see if we could have a room change as the carpet cleaners were just leaving as we arrived having shampooed the carpet. While this was no problem, once we explained we did not want to stay in a room with damp if not clean carpet, it was surprising that the receptionist had allocated the room knowing it was undergoing this treatment that day. We ended up with a down stairs unit that still had a great sea view and a sliding door leading onto a terrace where you could sit in the sun. Very comfortable bed and a good range of Sky channels to watch on TV made for a great stay. The office appears to only be open 1-6pm and may be managed remotely rather than managers living on site so be aware of thus if you arrive outside these hours.

This is the second time we've stayed here and will definitely come back. A lovely motel, with big rooms and plenty of space. Comfortable beds and very clean. I was also very surprised at how quiet it was considering it was fully booked - we couldn't hear the rooms next door or upstairs. The best thing about here is the location - so nice looking out to the water and there are great shops and cafes nearby. We were traveling with a wheelchair and while we were not in the disability the unit, the room we were in was still pretty accessible. There is a small lip to come into the room and the shower also has a lip. For someone who can navigate very small steps these rooms work well. The toilet didn't have a rail to hold onto but there was space for maneuvering to it. The surrounding building/street/shops and access to the beach were also all accessible. Staff were very helpful and also arranged a shower chair to be made available. Thank you Harbour View team, we will be back!

We spent one night at Harbour View on our way north to Gisborne. The location is stunning, right on the waterfront but far enough away from the port that it is not noisy or overly light at night. The waterfront walkway running in front of the motel goes for miles. Our room was classic motel style, a little dated but it was cosy, the bed (queen) was comfy, shower had good pressure and we had a kitchenette with a sink and microwave and basic cookware, enough to prepare easy meals. The price was good for the great location and we will definitely book again if we're back in Napier.

We were returning customers and checked in on 26 September after 6.00 pm, left our bags and went out for dinner. On our return to the room at 9.00 pm, we realised that the room had not been serviced. Wet towels in bathroom, bed linen unchanged, rubbish in the bins. Contacted the night manager, who came to see us, apologised and moved us to another room. We had to repack the food in the fridge, and clothes etc and by the time we were settled in the new room it was 10.00 pm.

We stayed for three nights. No one else made contact with us over the weekend. On checkout, we talked to Jo at reception, explained what happened and asked for some compensation for the inconvenience ..... Jo was busy on a call to the internet technician, I asked him to hang up while we had our conversation, he said that was not possible has he had waited a long time to get the technician on the line, this meant we had this rather awkward conversation while someone else listened to the conversation on the phone. Not good enough. Jo apologised to us, said they had been very busy and the room service had been missed - he offered us a $20 as compensation.

We accept the apology (mistakes do happen), but it is the general lack of interest in customer comfort and hospitality that is lacking at this motel. We would have appreciated a knock on the door the next day from the manager, with a voucher from a cafe or a reduction in the room rate for the first night.

When we got home I sent an email to the manager (who was not Jo) and explained the situation - this was 7 days ago, and no one from the motel has responded.

This motel has a great location, the rooms were reasonably clean, but everything looks a bit 'tired' and basic. The exterior walls of the motel could do with a re-paint and the rooms would benefit from new mattresses and a general tidy up eg holes in the wooden window frames. We think Harbour View can do better and we will be looking for alternative accommodation in the future.

This is a very basic property.
It shows its age in almost all areas. Room decor, lighting, bathrooms, beds and furniture.

We booked for three nights, but due to continuous bad weather checked out on the Friday at 11:00.
We were told that there would be a full charge for the Friday - even though the room could still be sold for that day/night.

Would I recommend this property to anyone - or return to stay?
No.

Seaview accommodation with budget friendly rooms which offer all the facilities you would expect to see in a motel room.

Comfortable beds with electric blankets
Sky television, alarm clock and a landline.

The spa bath is superb and the rooms are cleaned & serviced daily.

The Supervisor was very friendly and helpful.

Laundry Washing and Drying is FREE and detergents can be purchased for $1

I definitely recommend staying here to anyone looking for accommodation in Napier with a beautiful view, close to some nice restaurants and bars.

We stayed for one night in this motel in January and would have stayed two if they hadn’t been booked out.

There seem to be various ratings for this
Motel, however we had a two bedroom unit
On the ground floor and my husband’s
Parents had a studio next door.

We had beautiful views of the coast and could walk in multiple directions from the motel.

Our room was spacious and well appointed. Shower was good and bathroom.

The motel is a few years old but was still in a good state. The lady in reception was also helpful with local knowledge.

We will stay there again.

We stayed here 2 nights in a large suite and enjoyed the location and the view. Note it is in Ahuriri and not Napier South where all the art deco is. We liked the full kitchen and the hot chocolate and cookies. We also scored a spa bath which some rooms have. We made use of the free washer and drier (bring your powder). Reception hours are limited but they did stay open 15 mins longer for us. It was expensive (nzd225) but good location. Only thing we didn’t like was passive aggressive signs about how they would throw away anything you left in room and not to cook curry in room…. Not needed and not hospitable. I’d take them down!

My husband and I were staying in room 23 next to a group of young male adults whom showed no respect to the surrounding guests, there music was above an acceptable volume and was played late into the night. It was evident they were intoxicated which should only be acceptable if they behave with a decent manner which they were not! A group of underaged girls then turned up at the motel room further adding to the noise.
We were awoken by loud voice of someone saying ‘Bailey don’t urinate on that car’ in the early hours of the morning.
Come 9am the next morning a young boy who appeared to still be intoxicated drove off in a white hilux with 3 other passengers.

Management should do more about this to stop it from happening again!

We stayed for 3 nights in a studio apartment. It is the one they don't show on their web page as the balcony is miniscule. When we checked in could not understand why the patio furniture of 2 chairs and a table were inside the room, and not out. Barely room on the balcony for it. We were offered different room after the first night, but at that point did not want to move and were not impressed by the other rooms we were shown.

On the plus side, our studio was quite large and the kitchenette suitably equipped for our needs. The view from the room is excellent. Nice restaurants close by.

The unit needs serious updating. Walls are scuffed, things have been removed from walls and resulting holes have not been filled or painted. Carpet is fraying where it meets tile. The dining table surface is a total mess, peeling and rough. Appreciate refillable containers in the shower, however they are high and difficult to use if you are not tall. Also, there is no shelf in the shower for your own product.
