Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Have stayed here many times and always find them friendly and accomodating. We will always stay here when we go to hamilton. Good sized rooms, the kids love the personal touch of a few lollies when we arrive. recommended to all

We arrived on Saturday, having booked online for a four night stay.
The Staff were helpful and pleasant to deal with.
Of all the seven Motels we stayed at during our stay in New Zealand, this was the newest with the most modern décor.
We stayed in their family accommodation which included a separate bedroom with two single beds, the main bedroom is also the main room of the motel including kitchen, television (with Sky) dining table and two lounge chairs. The bathroom was large with a spa bath.
Having read others comments stating a lack of soul, or character these may perhaps be a result of the design of the room which has a more Hotel feel.
The décor is neutral and may not suit those looking for a quirky holiday experience, however if you are looking for a nice room, and a good night sleep, then this is exactly what you will find here, we enjoyed our four nights here and this accommodation served it's purpose for our family.
Essentially we spend our days out exploring and return to the motel for the evening.

Dear WAPerthFamily Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent trip to NZ and your stay in Hamilton, a lot of effort goes into keeping the decor modern. Positives - it was a very quiet place to stay given we saw the amount of people who were staying there. This was good for us who was a couple only needing a night passing through Hamilton. The place was clean and spacious. Staff was friendly, but was hard to see around the place.

Challenges - the bathroom was quite dated in comparison to photos. The rooms are very close together which meant parking was a bit of a nightmare going out after check out. The room also was very dark, barely any light in the rooms being that the rooms are quite close together and narrow but long.

Would come back to this place if needed a cheap place to stay in Hamilton again.

Was moved to Victoria Apartments through our booking at Hygate. Victoria Apartments is down the road, you can look up the reviews for Victoria Hotel and see has a very different review rating than Hygate.

Issues included
1. No access. Key card not working, stuck outside our room at 11.30pm.

2. Ants in the bed in the lounge.

3. No hot water at all. Never was able to shower.

Bonus round:
4. Rude staff. Thought they were there at 9am to fix our shower, turns out they were trying to get us out an hour early.
5. Kettle cord doesn't reach the plug. No milk. Just annoying...
6. No extra blankets, nothing in any cupboards. Was cold.

When we drove to Hygate reception to check out we were told the only way to get a refund was to speak to a manager. But managers don't work on the weekend. But they also don't work during the week. But they also have no phone line. And the only way to contact them is to email our complain to info@hygate.co.nz. I'm sure I'll hear back...

Nothing like the advertisement or reviews. I had to use wet wipes to clean finger marks and food stains off walls, door handles and the kitchen bench and appliances. The chairs around the table had food stuck all over them and the couch was completely broken with springs sticking out of the base. Sheets were clean but the towels were well worn. We found hairs stuck to pillows and to the tv cabinet top. The receptionist was very apologetic and helpful. We checked out that same day and went somewhere else. She organised with the manager to refund us the other 2 nights we had booked.

My self, my wife and our 1 year old daughter stayed here for 1night. We were staying from out of town, to do some shopping in Hamilton.

On our arrival we were shocked to see most rooms were occupied by people from ministry of social well fare.

Outside our room was covered in smoke buds.

We didn’t get any sleep, people from outside our room from 10pm to early hours were playing music in there rooms, in there cars. Yelling and screaming, kids running outside up and down, cars coming and going, then at around 5am someone knocked on the door demanding cash that we apparently owed them. We didn’t open the door.

We couldn’t wait to leave in the morning. We felt extremely tired and exhausted when we left and will never ever return.

We had the unfortunate experience of staying here on 22 Oct, a Tuesday. We arrived early evening having had a huge day of travel to get there and another big day with business meetings and travel the next day.
The first warning was on checking in when we were expected to give our credit card details in order to cover a $200 bond in case we "damaged our room". We have NEVER encountered that before.

Absolutely disgusting and when booking in asked for $100 bond. We had already paid $150 for the room, which by the way was disgusting and the other people staying there seemed very permanent and dodgey, decided not to stay, as I can probably say if you ran a blue light over the bed ..... DO NOT RECOMMEND unless you're a drug dealer.

We were furthest studio room from the main road but still felt at night that we were in the middle of a grand prix circuit, it is like boy racer central. we booked the room on the basis of having free internet usage but if you own a mac with os x or a laptop with windows vista don't expect to use it, I went to ask why it wasn't working and the owner who seems to have no customer service skills didn't really care, gave the impression it was my fault for having a upto date computer. Also found 1 cockroach in a drawer in the kitchen and although i got rid of the problem myself I mentioned it to the manager the next day and he blamed the motel next door with no apologies or discount for the room, then went round our block with a can of spray trying to cure the problem himself. The motel was ok, but look elsewhere if you can.

I had previously stayed here and it was fine. This time around, accompanied by my family, was terrible. Kids playing everywhere outside unsupervised by parents. Other guests sitting around smoking. Room not cleaned after first night. Unit was clean but it did not feel safe here with dodgy looking cars pulling up at all hours. It seems as though people are living here full time, people that I would not choose to spend my holiday around. Maybe winz housing? If this is the case, a note should be put on website. Not happy at all and not a good look for your business.
