Booked double room for a one night stay. The awful smell of the room hit us first and it felt and looked unclean. Not enough room on floor for bags, bathroom flooded when showering because curtain didnt go whole way around. Dirty plates and cutlery were left around the outside of establishment. Location not too bad, easy walk to shops and restaurants. Spent most of the night out and came back purely to sleep and leave ASAP in morning. Not recommended.

we arrived microtel around 10pm, the stuff was friendly. there were people partying at the back yard. luckily they went away pretty soon. we stayed in a double room, it was pretty clean (not for hotel quality, but good enough for the money i've paid). shampoo and soap were provided. the water quality was really nice. the TV in our room was not working probably but we had a good night sleep.
it;s recommended by us i think, at least you can have a good sleep.

The MicroTel is located a short driving distance from downtown Hamilton. There is nothing exciting about the hotel, and "micro" definitely describes it well. Everything - from the parking lot to the rooms to the TVs - is small. That said, our room had all amenities one might want, including a minifridge, microwave, tea, coffee, sugar, and a full bathroom with tub. The entire hotel was very clean, and the night stay was cheap. The MicroTel advertizes "compact luxury". The "luxury" part of it probably refers to the mints left on our bed.

I am so angry, upset and disappointed we stayed at this nightmare backpackers as it has completely ruined our holiday to NZ. We have stayed at a number of backpackers on our holiday so we are not a stranger to them and they have proven to be little gems until THIS one. We paid approx $130 for 2 nights for a double room with ensuite. We have had not ONE but TWO sleepless nights and early mornings. The noise has no switch off as the night progresses 1am 2am half hour sleep 3am etc and then 7am it starts up again. it is just constant talking, laughing, arguing, yelling as if you are in the same room as them. It has been devastating to our break away. We completely understand the nature of youth backpackers as we experience them all the time but to pay for not being able to sleep which is everyone's given right. Most other places we have stayed has had a noise curfew and so everyone should have that same respect and accountability. When you didn't think things could get any worse it did !!! 7.30am lying in bed in the comfort of OUR paid room we have another backpacker unlock our door and walk on in on us in full view half clothed in bed. The poor bugger must of got a big fright and quickly closed the door. So someone else has a key to our room with our possessions ???? All our valuables locked up safe (we thought) and some random has a key to our room. It left my partner and I humiliated to say the least for the experience. On arrival the sheets were still wet on the bed, plates had dried food on them and needed re cleaning before use the fridge still had the person befores food in it. Just outside the door stinks of cigerette smoke as we were placed obviously right next to the smokers domain. You can't get any air circulation in the rooms at all and if you leave the door open we then lose all privacy. I then tried calling the office after our stranger encounter this morning but to no avail. I hope to god no one suffers this type of stay ever !!! Really really upset that this could even happen.

I spent a week in this hotel and it was very, very clean. The hotel is a walking distance from the Waikato Stadium. The rooms are not big, but you don't really need anything more. The manager was very friendly and helpful. I'll go back there any time!

Being the first hostel 'Ive stayed in i was expecting the worst - but I was surprised. The room I stayed in was a twin with ensuite - although I only booked a twin. First I was greeted by a super friendly guy at the reception who was more than happy to show us around the hostel, once inside the room i was surprised at the creature comforts that i assumed a hostel would not have. The room was complete with T.V., a bar fridge and a comfortable bed. The bathroom was a little outdated but to be honest I couldn't care less. The shower was roomy, hot and had lots of pressure. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in and had trouble getting out the next morning. When leaving the staff pointed us in the right direction and wished us a safe and enjoyable holiday, what more could you ask for. I would stay here again and again and definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a comfortable place to lay their head

We spent two nights in Hamilton, the second at the Microtel, and really enjoyed our stay here compared to the first place. It was perfectly located in the CBD near a Pak n Save and other amenities.

The room we had was newly renovated and very nice. Comfortable beds, clean sheets, and a decent selection of workable items in the kitchen.

Staff was very friendly, we enjoyed the resident cats too. Had a few issues using the Internet and Martin was patient to help problem solve the issue with us.

I spent there 2 nights and forgot my drybag with a fleece in it there. The owner couldn't find the it and didn't seem to care at all that I had just lost items worth 140NZD and that there are thiefs there. No apologies or refunds or nothing. Cant recommend at all.

I've stayed at this YHA several separate occasions in the past few months. I have sampled both the dorm and private accommodation, and have found both to be clean, comfortable, and restful. I have experienced many backpacker facilities in my time, and this one is one of my favourites.

The kitchen facilities are small, but clean and well-equipped. The pantry and refrigerators are obviously cleaned out regularly.

Proprietor is very friendly and helpful. Obviously takes pride in providing good service, and making people welcome. Even has set up a Christmas tree, which makes me feel at home.

Near a busy street, so there is a bit of street noise; however, I have found the noise inside and outside to be at an acceptable level. And I'm fairly sensitive about noise and like a good sleep.

Showers in private accommodation excellent in every way, great pressure and lots of hot water. (I can't remember the conditions of the dorm showers.)

In all, I've been in three separate rooms. Each is a bit unique, and that's part of what I like about the accommodation.

All in all, would definitely recommend to others and will be staying here in the future.
