There are better options elsewhere for the same price.

Pros: Unbelievably clean, great location close to the city centre and food options
Cons: Terrible shower head and taps in both the kitchen and bathroom. No extractor fan in bathroom.

We travelled as a couple, in Hamilton for a sporting competition. As such, a hot shower at the end of the day was essential. While the need for renovations might be presented by other reviewers as "optional", I personally do not view the availability of a reliable hot shower as optional. The water pressure was weak and temperature alternated between scalding hot and lukewarm (in winter, this translates as freezing). The shower mixer was clearly new but the underlying mechanism hadn't been changed.

Overall, the unit we stayed in (#1) appeared unchanged since the 1970s, except for a changed linoleum floor and carpet. Even the Shacklock standalone cooktop was original and in immaculate condition. The downside is that if you are used to mixer taps in the bathroom in particular, this is very inconvenient. There is no such thing as having warm water out of the taps - it is either freezing cold or scalding hot! We were charged $99 per night as a couple, which was a surprise to us as it had been cheaper when my husband booked using Booking.com (apparently they charge more when the unit is occupied by more than one person, even though it sleeps 3). If I had realised it would be that price per night, I would have stayed elsewhere.

Pretty friendly and helpful staff with tidy rooms. There are stone walls and it’s very quiet at night. Hot water is good enough to take a shower. Although it’s a little bit old you can have everything you need in a motel. Definitely recommended!

It was late, and we had just had a horrific drive from Auckland airport through very heavy rush hour traffic. It had taken an hour longer than expected.
This was the first motel we found on our route south that had vacancies.

The check in was polite and we weren't arguing over the room - we needed it.

But an honest appraisal would call it old and tired.
The room smelt very musty like it needed a good airing.
In retrospect after a month touring north and south Island this was the worst place we stayed at and most were cheaper.
So would i stay here again...........

If our situation was repeated.
Or
It was 30% cheaper, you call it value for money.
Or
If it was completely refurbished it would be OK.

Older motel in the process of a gentle refurbishment. Really clean and friendly owners/managers. Good location in the heart of Hamilton East with a shop 50 meters away and loads of eateries 500 meters up the road. Definitely value for money. Thanks.

Clean and roomy. Furniture very tired, adequate for our one night stopover. Staff very friendly and helpful. If you like retro, then this is the place to stay. Not far from Hamilton gardens. Parking on premises. Switched fridge off overnight as it made alarming noises!

This motel is so clean, great price with very good service. My room had a full kitchen at the end of the lounge. There is a diary next door for my ice cream fix that also has ingredients for making yourself a meal. And a great licensed Turkish and other restaurants a couple of blocks away. The furnishings are very retro, but as I said it is very clean. Free WiFi, electric blanket on the main bed in the bedroom. I was pleasantly surprised how well done this inexpensive (cheap) motel was for me.Small fridge, milk, soap, shampoo, good towels, curtains on all of the many windows. They also brought me a hair dryer within minutes of my request.

Good points: Clean interior , convenient location- walking distance to eateries, chemist, bakery, bank etc, short drive to university campus, and city centre, full kitchen albeit cramped, good wifi connection and free. We appreciated the electric fan.
Not so good aspects: Drab (but clean) interior, outside surroundings quite unkempt and untidy, parking is tricky at times as the spaces are not numbered to match units - no guarantee that you’ll be able to park in front of your unit, to get out you had to reverse and manoeuvre your vehicle out of the limited space between the row of cars of cars belonging to other guests, and the front of row of units. Water pressure in the shower very low. Cigarette smoke from guests sitting outside their units smoking, wafts into adjacent rooms.

Spent one Saturday night hoping for a good nights rest only to find it over run with party goers who to be honest most stopped around eleven when they went across the road to a hotel only to return at three. Apart from that, the motel is very out dated which is a shame. The rooms are adequate, separate kitchen close and shower toilet. The rooms are clean, with a flat screen TV which can be used to drown out the party people

While everything was clean, it was so outdated that it was an inconvenience. I doubt the bathroom/kitchenette/laundry has been renovated since the 1970's (at least). Was close to quick and easy fast food.
