Hotel location is very good - right in the middle of the city and easily walkable to all the good bars and restaurants. Hotel itself is very dated - the rooms and particularly the carpets are quite old but otherwise clean. There is a new renovated side of the hotel - if possible, request for this as they are much nicer. Service though is slightly disappointing. Some rooms get bottles of water, others do not. I requested that I please get a bottle of water every single day - even if it's a small one. Got it 1 day, did not get after that. Had to ask every time. Every other hotel I've stayed with, this comes with the room. I also stayed 9 nights (as I was there for work) and hence requested for every day. Room cleaning also was inconsistent. Whilst the room was generally quite clean, you could tell when different people did it. One day I came back and beds were made but rubbish bins weren't emptied. Other times, beds were roughly made and things that had fallen on the floor (I dropped some paperwork as I was running out) not picked up. I appreciate these are very small remarks, however, I have stayed at other Novotels and they faired better. Stock standard buffet breakfast. Gym quite small. Very limited machines. Spa is good but was packed with kids every time I went. Not a bad overall stay.

It’s the small things that let this hotel down a bit. On check in - the receptionist said she would call us when our second booked room was ready. We never heard anything all afternoon and ended up getting the keys for the room at 10pm when we returned from a wedding. There was other people’s hair on the skirting in the bathroom. The tables aren’t cleared promptly at breakfast meaning people arriving were walking around trying to find a clean table to sit at & weren’t having much luck. The customer computers in the foyer are a great idea but you can’t use them because there is no mouse. Ordered a coffee from the bar and the lady forgot to make it. Service just needs a bit of polishing overall.

Very disappointed that my accor plus membership and Gold status were overlooked, felt a bit let down actually. I found parking arrangements awfully confusing and limted and didn't feel very safe walking alone outside in a public space from the parking late at night.

The services we experienced (at reception, at room service, at the bar and at breakfast were very professional, warm and welcoming. The room (overlooking the panoramic view of the Waikato River) was very comfortable with the standard amenities - air conditioning and heating; tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar milk, an iron and ironing board, a box of tissues, shampoo, conditioning, show gel, body lotion and a hair dryer available. The best was having a nice room to stay in. The least liked was having to check out!
