We stay in a superior interconnecting spa room. While it was clean and tidy and the reception lady helpful it is nothing like 4 star and I can't imagine that anyone ever has paid the alleged rack rate of $700. It is very dated and basic. The door between the rooms jams on the carpet and is difficult to shut, bathroom has spa bath but no ambience - straight from the 80's. With 2 floors you have to put up with other guest clanking up stairs and overhead all night, toliets flushing etc. Obviously self rating has absolutely no controls and should be ignored. I'd be happy with this place if the owners were honest and described it as the 2 star it really is. I

Response from Smile_and_Service, Owner at Abbots Hamilton Hotel and Conference Centre
Responded 11 May 2011
The property owners appreciate all comment, especially when provided prior to check-out. The Comfort Inn brand standards dictate that the property is to be between 3plus and 4. Qualmark assessed this property as a high 3plus some years ago and further improvements have been completed since that time. The new carpet in their room is a specific reason why the door between the rooms is temporarily restricted by the pile . This guest occupied TWO Superior SPA rooms. The date they stayed did not attract the $$ suggested - that is willingly paid by others during peak periods. We hope the guest returns to Hamilton for further enjoyment.

Stayed for three night for a conference at Claudelands. Bed was good and other things are a bit tired. Needed the fan heater as the room was a bit cold. Did not see the fine print about ordering breakfast the night before so toast and Weet-Bix was the order of the day... Someone said that his breakfast ordered the night before was also cooked the night before!

Stayed here for one night on our two week holiday around NZ. went to check in and the reception desk was empty there was a number to call if unattended. when they did arrive they told us we got a upgrade, the only thing I can say is wouldn't like to see the room they had for us before this 'upgrade'. rooms were outdated and freezing the bed was lumpy great idea of the double sided electric blanket as the room was so cold, there was tiles missing in the bathroom, they were as well to have no shower to the one that was there however there was a big jacuzzi bath which was lovely. good recent movies on the tv.

This was easily the worst place we have ever stayed at. We were made to pay a $100 deposit on top of room rate and room was inspected before they returned it. No one would pilfer anything from this place unless it was to take it to the rubbish dump. There was nothing good about this place. Uncomfortable beds, TV with poor sound, one tiny heater, ice cold bathroom. Paper thin walls so we could hear the next door person snoring all night and occupants on the other side returned at 12.40am and talked loudly for about 2 hours. No sleep at all and constantly felt uneasy. While not unclean, it was obvious that sheets and towels were laundered on site, which we saw happening on arrival. The rude staff here should be ashamed of themselves and take a course in customer service. Do not ever stay here even if you are broke, sleeping in your car is a better option.

There are some nice motels around Hamilton, do yourself a favour pay a few more dollars and stay somewhere a lot nicer. We booked into a room as our teenage son was having an operation at Waikato Hospital. He was discharged earlier than expected and we wanted him close to us so we could monitor him overnight. Management wanted to charge us an extra $60 to put a camp stretcher in the room and supply sheets!! Their compassion is zero as is their customer service. All they could see was $$$$. The rooms are shabby, outdated, cracks all up the walls and the photos on the website make the rooms look a lot more appealing than they actually are.
Definitely never coming back!!
If I could put a minus 10 as a rating I would!!

Im not normally one to complain but I booked here as there was limited options left. The photos on here need to be updated. The room I was staying in had some random guys underwear left from the last stay and they wern't hard to miss meaning the room hadnt had a proper clean. The walls must be very thin as you can hear everything in the other rooms around you. This became really annoying when trying to do study or trying to sleep at night when you could hear next doors tv, someone showering or them talking late into the night. Service at the front desk was alright, the lady was nice but There was also a $100 bond that had to be paid on arrival, which apparently is stated on there website but I couldn't see it anywhere when booking. I was lucky to have spare $100 for 3 days as otherwise I wouldn't have been able to stay or get a refund.

This was booked for me and unfortunately no local alternatives were available otherwise I would have left.

This motel does the motel industry in Hamilton no good at all. Dated in every respect. Scruffy reception staff with poor English. Terrible dated bathroom and kitchen which have had no attention or TLC since the 70s.

Although it was March there was no heating in evidence in the room. No air con.

No Sky. "Owner say cannot afford".

So why was I charged $169 for the Saturday of my stay. Clearly price gouging is on the agenda as normal rates appear much lower.

The rates are a bit of a joke, if it was 60 a night, you'd get what you pay for and your expectations would be in line with what you spent. A low budget motel, covering the basics. Bed and a roof for the night.
But their rates don't prepare you for a half-assed motel room, yes dated and crap beds as per other reviews on here, but cobwebs everywhere and chipped bathtub did not entice.

And if you're a fan of cockroaches and ants you'll be pleasantly surprised when they start rocking up late at night! Party on!

Go somewhere else if you're spending in that price range. Plenty of places that are worth the money. 🙂

This is more like a back packers. Room are dated, the mattress on the bed I was sleeping in had the springs poking through. When I complained they asked me if I was checking out, poor customer service, they obviously dont care about paying guests. The photos they show of the hotel rooms dont not give a true feel of the place. Parking is a nightmare. Would not recommend this place. If I could score a -5 I would

Booked through Booking.com and knew nothing about Abbots but what a surprise.
Expansive room and bathroom.
Ordered fish n chips to room. Best I’ve had almost ever. Highly recommend. Basic but great and friendly staff. Very welcoming.
