We have not stayed here in about 15 years but it was good to see things hadn’t changed much. I did appreciate the email link after check in that told me what a hard copy compendium used to. I did wonder what happens for non tech/ computer people though. We stayed as part of a car rally using the hotel as a base and they were very accommodating. A room was available for a daily briefing plus plenty of parking.
I found the bed personally uncomfortable and woke up with a sore back. It was also stuffy the first night and for security reasons we couldn’t really have a window open. I got the air con working the second night and that helped circulate some air. We were on the ground floor of the tower block. I think this helped reduce road noise at night compared to others in our group who were higher up in the tower. Although we had no balcony it was convenient to use the sliding door to get out to the car park rather than gave to use the key card door all the time.
Although we try to avoid disabled units the shower in the unit was fine- good water pressure and with a curtain around the shower area we managed to keep most of the rest of the bathroom water free.
The units have been redecorated but they do look a bit tired. However it is a central place to stay in ?Hamilton.

For the price we paid for for 4 adult females, we would definitely expect more than 1 toilet roll in the room. They have a pool and spa but only provide bare minimum towels, so you have to go and find someone to ask for them. No robes available for guests, We are obviously expected to drink water from the bathroom tap as there was no other tap in the room but they provided a kettle to boil the bathroom water. We added breakfast on to our stay, which I wished we hadn’t & just gone into town. The buffet wasn’t a buffet at all, I counted 4-5 options available. Scrambled eggs, baked beans, tiny sausages, hash browns. For the price we paid to stay for 1 night, wouldn’t recommend sue to charging well over normal price with no added extras. The only up side to our stay was we could check out at 12pm for no added fee.

I really enjoyed my first stay here, check in person was lovely despite me checking in at 11.30pm.

The room was neat and tidy with plenty of towels, extra blankets and toiletries!

Maintenace people, house keeping, reception and kitchen staff were very friendly the next morning, they all greeted me and made me feel very welcome..

The buffet breakfast is exceptional with such a wide variety for only $26..

Thank you for your excellent customer service.. I will definitely be returning!

I travelled for business and chose this hotel based on the photos and the description. I was very disappointed.
Part of the hotel is used for emergency accommodation / social housing and I therefore did not feel comfortable using any of the facilities on hand. The pool was occupied by people swearing. Where I parked my car there were a whole lot of characters hanging around drinking, smoking, swearing and being noisy.
The noise carried on into the evening.
The room was NOT clean with gross slimy snot pieces in the kettle as if someone washed their socks in there and blew their nose.
The rest of the room was relatively clean but due to bits of dirt here & there, made me question the cleanliness of the sheets.

I went out and bought my own crockery and cutlery with kettle, toaster etc even breadboard.
I bought Jif to scrub out the bath. The bath was clean but I was just grossed out.
The curtains are pretty thread-bare and light that I had to hang up the spare blanket over the pelmet to block the light off. Worst nights sleep ever!

I stayed one night then forfeited my money for the remaining night and stayed in another hotel.

I am sure that the motel is trying its best to stay afloat financially but they need to do some renovation and upgrades. The room prices need to reflect the quality of the rooms which is more like a backpacker.

I was very disappointed in my experience at the Heartland Ambassador in Hamilton, and I frequent the Auckland Airport Heartland hotel often so I do not believe I am being unfair.
Firstly, the rooms are cold, have poor lighting and offer proof sound proofing.
The elevator was out of action during my stay, however the hall way was littered with dust and elevator equipment just lift sitting idle.
Secondly, the room I was originally placed in had a gap under the door so large I could fit my foot under the door and literally be standing in the hallway with only a door separating us. How is that for personal safety/security????
I requested to be moved to another room, the room I was then moved to still had a large gap under the door which could easily fit a camera under if some sicko was that way inclined.
Thirdly, breakfast was the only meal offer available however it started at 7am which was too late. No cutlery or plates/bowls were provided for you to purchase and eat take away food with the rooms were only heated by a small fan heater which was not powerful enough to warm the rooms.

This was a business trip and I have requested this establishment be removed from our company's list of providers.

Very friendly receptionist checked our vaccine passes and was very efficient. We were on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool, so could leave the sliding door open.
Unfortunately there was a used shirt from the previous occupant left in the cupboard!
Two king size beds were very comfortable. Kettle, cups, glasses and fridge were adequate; a 250ml long life milk in the fridge was appreciated.

Always great value here. My kids love the pool as we usually stay in summer. We appreciate having a bedroom separate to the kids without it costing a fortune and appreciate the overall reasonable cost. It's pretty basic but always clean, with a balcony and the room sizes are generous. Probably needs a bit of a decor upgrade but is perfect for families.

For threes nights of a conference I stayed in the funny looking breeze block tower that commands the site. But inside the room was relatively modern, fresh and white painted, with balcony overlooking the pool. A spacious room but tight little bathroom. The usual furnishings- two comfortable beds, fridge.
The pool, the spa tub, the jasmine and other attractive planting made this place. Plus all the staff on front desk were incredibly friendly and helpful.
No in room / on site recycling. Also one of Those Hotels that say they’ll only replace your towel when you want, but replace them daily regardless.
It’s super accessible- the river side trail is across the road and Claudelands is an easy 20walk away. It’s not centre of town exactly- 15minutes walk to the casino.
I slept with the door open and was not disturbed with traffic noise.
Would recommend, would stay again.

We received a warm welcome from Liesl with all necessary information. There’s ample parking on site and our room was easy to find with a view over the pool and sunset in the evening. The room was very clean and decent sized and beds were comfortable we got a good night’s sleep. They had enough towels and bathroom amenities if you forgot your toiletries. There was AC which was great as it was a muggy summer night. We managed to get a dip in the pool and spa also which was clean and child friendly after a hot day at the beautiful Hamilton gardens. There was a supermarket across the road and the city centre with all the lovely restaurants were close by. This was a nice surprise to our trip as it was so much better than was expected! Book this place for stop over stays with kids.

Just stayed the one night. Easy check-in and friendly staff. We were on the first floor of the high rise part of the building. I thought it would be quite noisy but it wasn't at all. The hotel was quite empty, despite the receptionist saying it was full. Bed was comfy, shower and bathroom were fine. I thought the main light was not working so I went over and got a new bulb from reception. However this didn't make it go. The receptionist said that she would take a look while we were out. Then when we came back I found that the main light has a separate switch from the entry light, hidden low on the wall between the beds, so watch out for this! Will stay again if available for our next visit to Hamilton.

Is the pool open in winter and is it heated?
Answer from Andrew D

Pool is open in winter has a spa also. Not sure if heated my last stay there I never saw steam coming from the pool. I doubt that it's heated as that would be very costly for them. I would go elsewhere it's not worth it.
