Where to begin, the whole place is tired and needs up dating.
There are permanent tenants there from Housing NZ so lots of noise, unsupervised children running around.
The swimming pool is very unsafe, the ladder into the pool is broken( not recent by amount of rust around), this is the only way to get in and out of fairly deep pool, broken whole time we were there, four days. If a child or adult could not push themselves out of the pool they were stuck in there.
Signs say not smoking in units but everyone smokes just outside others doors and you can’t have door or windows open as the smoke just comes into the unit.
The unit we stayed in with 2 bedrooms had an updated bathroom but it was very dangerous, large step up in to shower which had a very slippery floor with not mat. There were no shelves in shower to put things on so putting toiletries on floor in shower increased risk of fall. Then the large step to get out of the shower again a falls risk, my mum didn’t shower after 2nd day as to afraid of falling.
We stayed over Christmas time, at $200 a night excepted at least clean towels on Christmas Day, when asked about this got told it’s Christmas day so no service. Have stayed regularly in motels in NZ over Christmas and always been told about service plans for the day and offered free towels. The receptionist said you should have been told this when booking in, I replied you booked us in, there was no reply from her.
When room serviced on Boxing Day, beds not made properly just roughly pulled up, no sign of cleaning in bathroom, kitchen not cleaned, dirty dishes left.
We should have read the reviews about this place before booking, lesson learnt for next time.
Would not recommend this place to anyone , appears owners only increased in making money not giving people a good experience.

Trust your gut instinct !!. Got a certain vibe straight away when parking our vehicle outside our room, it was like rats peering out from every room when a new vehicle arrives ??. Unpacked, stepped outside for a drink and a smoke, door was open next door, smell of mince cooking next door, no worries, then a male voice "gonna get high", WTF, nek minute, some bludger comes up to me wanting a smoke & he was high as a kite, and then we seen some dude "blazing on his meth pipe in his car". A couple drove in with a couple of young kids in their car, I told them straight up "go somewhere else, its not safe here", they left. Like an infomercial, but wait there''s more, went to have a shower before going out for dinner, no hot water, that's it, we are gone. The receptionist was useless, but eventually got our money back. NEVER AGAIN !!!

We checked in at 630pm for a work trip. We checked out at 1030pm. We stayed in room 7, the Bathroom has clearly been updated recently but not well, huge marks on the wall, holes in the wall in the bedroom we couldn't get any sleep as the people staying upstairs were super noisy! when we checked out I told the receptionist about the noise but maybe she doesnt speak english as she just gave me a blank look, so I emailed the place and havent heard a single thing back. I 100% expected at least a partial refund. Atrocious.

Reception staff lovely and very welcoming. We were given a free upgrade which was a nice surprise. Place is lovely and clean spacious and awesome air conditioning unit as it was a very hot day when we arrived. Totally recommend the Grosvenor to anyone visiting whether for the rugby as stadium within walking distance along with large supermarket and a very nice eatery.

I picked the Grosvenor motel in Hamilton as it was reasonably priced an close to the city centre. It is within walking distance of Speights Ale House and supermarkets. Ask for a downstairs room if you have a lot of luggage. Staff were friendly at check in and check out. Rooms were clean. Free wifi. I would stay there again.

The only thing I feel stupid about is not reading the reviews. I just stayed here with my partner and 66 year old mother and had the worst motel experience of my life( and I've stayed in some dodgy motels)
We returned after food to a couple of complete moronic guys drinking outside their next door apartment. After ignoring intimidating comments, soon we were confronted with banging on the door. It turned out to be,what I can only assume was a prostitute, off her face stumbling into our room. Turns out, as a joke, friendly neighbours had swapped numbers as a joke. What followed was a night of intimidation, cars screeching by,banging, drinking. The hotels response? Don't worry, the door is strong.
I've notified the police, the place is just scary, I asked in the morning do they read their comments and was greeted with a vacant blank stare. Please don't stay here. But a tent, pitch by the side of Victoria st. You will sleep better.

What a truly horrible place, old run down and dirty not to mention the staff who were exceptionally rude and completely unhelpful especially the receptionist. After arriving in the rain with my baby I was made to wait in the car park, while being tooted at by the owner I might add who wanted me to move so he could park his car in the car park by the entrance and not get wet. Then I was barked at by the receptionist in very bad English that I had to pay again, which I refused and then tried to sort the matter out only to be told that they had no idea of what sort of online system they use for payment but I was to pay again. Needless to say after consulting my bank I refused. Peeling wallpaper, no milk, slept on the bed not in it as it was so horrible and I was concerned about how clean it was. My experience of the late night wheels and swearing out in the car park was exactly the same as Lisa R.and frankly I would be ashamed to have anyone visiting from overseas get the impression that this is acceptable or normal in the hospitality industry in New Zealand. Up your game GROSSvenor and maybe start with some staff training, a professional cleaner and an up date of the furniture which is tired and dirty. Overall a terrible experience. On an end note it is stated there is WiFi in the room but it was absolutely useless and in the end I gave up and used my own data.

Arrived at check in to witness a spectacle of "long term" guests having a screaming match which nearly escalated into a brawl in the car park - felt really unsafe. This was the start of the awful 2 night stay. Kept awake both nights by guests partying, swearing, stomping up and down hallway outside the our unit until around 3 am. Wifi did not work. Room was not cleaned/serviced after first night, had to request basics like towels, coffee etc. To be fair, after complaining room was then serviced (still not given basics like sugar, etc though) and Wifi was fixed. Didn't feel safe, poor sleep due to behaviour of "long term" guests, Poorply equiped rooms. Not worth the money.

We were a little late getting some last minute accommodation, Since we were arriving at 4pm and checking out early at 6am we just needed something for a quick sleep and then hit the road. It is very laughable and actually hilarious that Motor Inns in this condition can still operate and charge these prices- It would be fairer to charge $79 for a single and $89 for a couple as the rooms are simply not up to date and well past their use by date. It is a pity as the current owners don’t look like they will reinvest more money into the motor Inn- a shame really as it will look quite nice with new bathrooms, kitchens, upgraded hot water system, and new fixtures inside. The location is good- I didn’t even attempt to eat at the restaurant as the condition of the rooms are so poor you second guess what the quality of the restaurant will be like. The staff seem friendly enough although I very much doubt you will see much change. Would be good if the accommodation websites can remove this from their searches and force the owners to upgrade their motor inn and meet a minimum standard. Food for thought? Would I stay here again- most likely not, if it was a real budget motor inn and charged realistic budget prices then I would re consider.

I can not think of even one good thing to say about our stay here. Our unit was ridiculously cold, NOTHING worked (tv, heaters, iron, microwave) and the amount of undesirable guests and even just random people walking in and out of the street was laughable. How this place is even allowed to operate is beyond me. There is rubbish absolute every where. There are old couches just out in the car park, random bits of old furniture on out side balcony's and the further down the property you get the worse it seems to be which was a pity for us as we booked a family unit (if you could call it that) down the back. If you are looking for a fun filled night of loud partying, and what I can only imagine to be illegal activity going on then this is the place for you. Otherwise do yourself a favour and keep scrolling and find somewhere else to stay. We booked this hotel based on amenities, what a joke that turned out to be. I left fuming this morning after talking to the lady at reception about everything and her response was to offer me a free cookie.
