We have just returned from an Easter break staying at the Headland Lodge and we found the Lodge to be perfect. It is very clean and comfortable. The kitchen is brilliant as are the lounges and games room. (The roaring fire was welcome on a couple of chilly evenings!) And the Manager, Tarquin, was so helpful - nothing was too much bother for her! And it is set in beautiful countryside. We'd definitely stay again!

The little gem just south of Gisborne was a really pleasant surprise. We stayed for a night after driving all day from Wellington. We just needed somewhere to put our heads for the night. We looked online for accommodation options and the reviews sounds positive. The room was more than adequate for a wary traveler. Our room had a private en-suite with toilet, shower and basin. Fresh clean towels and flannels were provide, as was anti-bacterial handwash. There was a large fan heater along with a retro dresser and table. There was also wardrobe for larger items. A full free laundry is available as well as an iron and ironing board. A fully appointed large kitchen is available for cooking and food storage. A dining room is adjacent to the kitchen thru a single, swinging old style saloon door. The foyer contains beautiful resurfaced polished wooden floor with a large TV, comfortable couch’s and a very cozy wood burner. The old pub area has been repurposed as a socializing area with large TV, pool table, board games, large Bluetooth speaker, darts board and another big wood burner. Another room contains a table tennis set up. All have beautiful wooden floors. A nod to the buildings former life as a local watering hole and bordering house has been retained and doesn’t take anything away from it’s life now. There is room outside for kids and if keen you can scramble up the hill to take in the sunrise. A basic but compliant emergency warning system for fire or other danger is onsite along with domestic long life smoke alarms in each room. The Building warrant of fitness was on display, as legally required, and shows full compliance with the SS (specified systems) on the compliance schedule. The only small issue I saw was 1 instance of incorrect signage for one of the fire extinguishers, but it’s a very minor, easily fixed item. The owners are lovely and nothing was a problem. Free WIFI is available but can be a bit sketchy. Complimentary tea and coffee is also available. The entire complex was very clean and tidy. We highly recommend The Headland Lodge as a long or short stay option

This place is out in the boonies. No restaurant, no bar no tv in your room. Would not stay here again. Bed was ok and at least your own bathroom. Would be so much better with bar and restaurant. Nice view of a Hill which you can actually climb. Must remember to do my research. Gisborne seems to have limited accommodation.
