I'm actually blown away by the hospitality found at Surf City Lodge and I only stayed the night! The room I stayed in had everything I could possibly have needed with extra little touches and the magnificent breakfast cooked by Chef Barry was over and beyond (those croissants.......!!). There is a reason why this B & B is so highly rated, thank you for such a lovely stay.

Absolutely, hands down, no questions asked, the BEST. Barry and Ros are the hosts with the most. They heard it before but I will say it again, you will never stay in such a warm, welcoming, comfortable, gracious, classy home. There just isn't anything quite like this. I have to say an gigantic thank thank thank you to Barry and Ros for the loveliest time, having myself and my family here with me. I was in a business trip and stayed at this BnB because my other accommodation had to cancel the booking. Everything was great about my stay. Very friendly and helpful hosts, a spacious and beautiful room, the location is quiet and close to the city. it is a great value for money as well. If i'm in Gisborne again i'm definitely coming back to this lodge!

I had a wonderful stay here in Gisborne. The home was/is beautiful and very clean and the hosts warm and welcoming. The highlight was a delicious cooked breakfast by chef Barry every morning! I would definitely recommend it. :)

My trip to Gisborne was made all the more enjoyable because Barry and Ros were such wonderful hosts. My unit was very comfortable and had everything I needed and more. I could walk everywhere from the Lodge. Barry picked me up and dropped me off at the airport and was always kind and helpful. And the breakfasts!! When Barry realised that I wasn't a big breakfast eater and could only eat 1/3 of the gargantuan breakfast he served, he made me my own omelette with a salad. I will definitely be staying at Surf City Lodge when I next go to Gisborne.

We stayed with Barry for 3 nights in Gisborne. We've stayed in a variety of places across the globe and I can honestly say Barry was the most generous and welcoming host we've ever had. We had done a long car journey around the beautiful East Cape, but when we arrived Barry was ready with some cool beers and had our room all ready. The room had lots of homely touches and was very comfortable. Barry is an enthusiastic and talented chef. We we're lucky enough to be visiting during his birthday and he kindly invited us to a birthday BBQ, where we got to celebrate with his wonderful family. The food was exceptional - better than most restaurants! Barry also goes above and beyond for brekkie - we had full free ups, pancakes and even homemade croissants. We had a great stay in…

Fantastic stay, Barry and Ros were so wonderful, I stayed 3 nights in the outside unit, which had its own decking area, it was self contained, modern, quiet and felt private. I was warm in the evenings, with plenty of blankets if I needed them, but didn’t need to. I found the bed very comfy and felt so relaxed and comfortable staying in the little unit. It was a quick trip for me, a walk down memory lane as I use to stay in Gisborne as a child. This meant I came and went early and late in the day and it was quite an emotional trip, Barry and Ros were so wonderful and supportive. I didn’t get a chance to try Barrys cooking – not for him trying, I was just in and out all over the time and I couldn’t guarantee when I would be in. I would definitely stay again. Thank you both so…

Host and hostess, Barry and Ros Thomas looked after me superbly, providing exemplary service during my 6 day stay in Gisborne. Their kindness went well beyond anything I have experienced before and they most certainly deserve the accolade of First Place 2015 Certificate of Excellence Trip Advisor Award which I spotted on display in their dining room. I went there on the recommendation of my sister who had a memorable stay there. Due to personal circumstances I was under considerable stress and the warmth of the hosts, their service and attention to detail meant I was able to relax in the mornings and evenings which helped enormously to 'get me through the day'. And the complimentary evening BBQ was just lovely and most appreciated.

We found Barry on his bike at the Information Centre! His historic home was walking distance from town, easy accessible with a favourable tariff and a welcome not to be beaten. We stayed 2 nights wishing we had more time.... Comfortable, private accommodation with en suite maintained independence while our host gave interesting information about places in the area to visit. Chef Barry outdid himself with deliciously big breakfast each morning, which set us up for sightseeing days. Our first time to Gisborne. Ros, a delightful hostess, made sure we were set up for the next stage in our journey. We hadn't booked in advanced and felt lucky that we had found a quality B&B mid week prior to the Christmas rush! Would definitely book in here next time. Thanks Barry & Ros. 😎

I’ve stayed four times at Surf City Lodge and the service and accommodation has been exceptional on each occasion. I will continue to use this when I visit Gisborne and highly recommend it. The hosts are very friendly and will go to any length to help their guests. The cooked breakfast is to die for and I look forward to it each time.. Phil Rachinger.
