Very welcoming, friendly personnel. We were warmly greeted on arrival. Check-in was very quick and efficient. Comfortable room. It was a warm night and we were grateful for the fan. The hostel is just off the main approach road from the North so it is easy to find. It is handy to the city centre and lots of dining options if you want to take a break from cooking.
The hostel is an older building, but kept very clean. The hosts are so friendly and went out of there way with helping us. Is walking distance to the town. Really enjoyed our stay and will be sure to stay again in the future.
Basic kitchen, clean room good bed reasonable value. Good parking. staff are reserved but efficient. good location close to supermarketGreat wifi, Fridges are not policed and very little space. Good nights sleep.
Stayed for several nights at the YHA in Gisborne. Hostel has ample parking, great Wifi in all parts of the property and excellent water pressure. The last one surprised me the most and I took advantage of it! Hostel is also great location to Main Street and the beach. Very easy to get to/from and there is a Mobil station one minute away. Overall, this is a good basic option. The rooms can get really warm in warmer weather but a small fan is provided. Windows have no screens (common in NZ) so there can be lots of mosquitos at night if it is warm. Bathrooms are small but clean. Not modern but do the job and are fine as-is. Kitchen is small but well stocked but it is way too small during dinner hours. If weather is bad, seating inside gets really tight but in decent weather there is good outdoor seating too. Fridge space is really limited too and long-term guests dominate it so mark your spot right away. My only real issues with the hostel were the bugs, size for seating and the street noise. On top of the noise of people leaving in the morning. Be prepared for it because it can be incredibly loud with trucks rolling by at night and early mornings. The bugs can't really be helped because NZ doesn't have screens on the windows but if bugs love you, just be ready. But that's hostel life.…
I had pre booked this hostel before leaving the UK, on doing so I received an email with instructions if I turned up early etc. I had booked a room for 1, which most hostels seem to offer now. On checking in at 16.00pm I was given room 11. Which was a room for 1. This is found in an annexe which has three rooms, shower, toilet and sink. Everything that's needed. All I saw of the main building was the reception/TV room and kitchen. My room was basic, towel rail, double bed and wardrobe and bedside cabinet. No complaints. It was clean and the bed sheets were fresh. I hadn't paid for the "Hilton". I had arrived by car, there was plenty of spaces to put your wheels. Added bonus for that. The hostel is well within walking distance of the main town centre with all the bars and food joints. And there are plenty to choose from! Closer to the hostel is a 24 supermarket, name only and not open 24hour. So you can buy fresh and use the hostel kitchen. Will gladly go back here in the future and enjoy the area.…
