Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I joined the Gisborne Camera Club for a relaxing, informative afternoon at Knapdale Eco Lodge. I loved interacting with the photogenic Highland cattle and enjoying the informative talk from Kees as we strolled around the farm . The climb up to the pa site was well worth the effort with expansive views and we all felt ready for the delicious spread for afternoon tea prepared by Kay. Great place to end the day with a glass of wine. Perfect hospitality in an gorgeous setting.

Kees & Kay are such genuine loving people who made our wedding day so special. Their organisation skills, attention to detail, prompt communications made our day run smoothly. The food was a highlight. Everything was delicious from the canapes to the main to the dessert. We couldn't have planned our Wedding without them. If you are looking for an exceptional wedding venue and food that's out of this world, I can't recommend Knapdale enough !

We had a fantastic stay at Knapdale Eco Lodge. The room was spacious, clean and totally comfortable with a beautiful view of the farmland. Knapdale is a very nice and peaceful place, where you can really relax. The breakfast was just great and dinner was awesome. Kay is a fantastic cook. An absolute highlight was also the walk with Kees across the farmland with all the animals (sheep, cattle, swan, ducks and of course the dogs) . We were so friendly and warmly received and felt almost like old friends. We had the impression that our wishes were read from our eyes. Thank you so much, Kay and Kees for this unforgettable stay! All the best to you.

We recently had our Wedding at Knapdale. The location of the venue is well worth a 5 star. The view was perfect. Unfortunately the customer service provided by the hosts was very poor. I would not recommend this to any of my friends or family. We were left very stressed out and disappointed.

I must admit I was a bit wary when I saw the word 'eco' in the travel agent itinerary - thoughts of lentils, recycled toilet paper and the like sprang to mind! However the only way I can describe Knapdale, without going into pages, is a little piece of heaven - you know the sort of location you dream about living in if you won the lottery. From the lovely warm welcome by Kees through to the evenings lingering over chat, good food and wine you just can't dislike this place......if you do it's YOU who is out of step, not Knapdale! Perfect settting, peaceful, warm hosts, excellent food, lovely interior design all contribute to a superb location for a relaxing holiday break. Throw in 'extras' like being able to hand feed young deer, play with the lovely dogs, drive highland cattle etc etc and you have a totally luxurious and unique experience - not a bit of brown rice in sight or any pine scatter cushions with added bran and yes you can enjoy a powerful hot shower or spa bath without being made to feel guilty. Knapdale shoots straight towards the top of my top 10 worldwide dream destinations and you can't say better than that - would repeat visit until the cows come home (pun intended!). Thank you Kay and Kees for a totally devine 3 night stay - wish it could have been longer.

We stayed with Kees and Kay for 2 days and had a lovely time. Beautiful spot with amazing view. The room and service were perfect and we enjoyed a delicious dinner!
We enjoyed the walk to the waterfalls, accompanied with the dogs. We had wine at the top of the mountain, enjoying the beautiful sunset!

We stayed in the Kauri Suite in November for two nights. The Lodge is run by Kay and Kees who are exceptional hosts. The Lodge is out in the countryside so we elected to have our evening meals there each night. These were taken en-famille, and the food and the wine were delicious. Our room was outstanding, extremely comfortable, roomy and with everything that one could want for a comfortable stay. Beautiful views from the twin aspect windows of the stunning local countryside.

The original farm was in Kay’s family and the fairly recently constructed lodge lacks for no amenity. Lovely communal seating, TV and dining areas as well as a large deck/patio. Kay and Kees, as well as running the Lodge, also hold down jobs and run the small farm attached to Knapdale. On our first evening, Kees took us for a fascinating tour of the property, farm and re-forested areas. With his specialised forestry knowledge Kees was an interesting and amusing guide.

The Lodge also runs events such as weddings, and when booking it would be worth checking what is on as this might impact your stay.

Overall, a memorable stay in a lovely location made special by hosts Kay and Kees.

My husband and I recently got married at this stunning venue, we worked with the lovely couple Kay and Kees who opened up their beautiful home to us for our wedding, we were met with professionalism on every matter. It met all our expectations and more, we look forward to our next experience with this power couple, Kay dazzled our guests with delicious cuisine, and Kees was there to tend to our every need throughout the day and late in to the night. We were lucky enough to stay the night as newly weds in their lush suites, a romantic setting for two. We woke up to breath taking views of their land, home made croissants and freshly squeezed orange juice.
I couldn't have wished for a more spectacular day.
