A country motel set in the wilderness overlooking the Pacific Coast. A dedicated walkway to probably one of the most challenging land based fishing sites, where a descent King fish and Snapper can be landed. Exceptional views, tramping opportunities and a great place to take your bike out and capture a part of New Zealand's coast rarely seen by many. For those merely wanting to escape the hustle and speed of life this place offers just that - a great retreat.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A brilliant place in the perfect location. ( A bit of the main road but well worth the trouble) The view of the coast and ocean is great an easy walk from the room. Rooms are very well presented and facilities are very good. (They were renovating all the rooms and facilities when we visited ) We were the only guests at the time we were there, the ladies that were there went we arrived were very helpful and could not do enough to help us. The new owner (Roger) was terrific and a pleasure to talk to, he went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. We look forward to our next trip N.Z. and will certainly be staying there longer the next time we are in the area.

We had a confirmed booking from Jan2023 for April. On turning up we were not able to locate anyone… we drove back to Point Hicks for phone service. The new manager has recently taken over & our booking was not forwarded. There is no restaurant or bar in operation. We had no food, so found other accommodation further on, with a restaurant luckily.

We stayed 1 night in a spacious 2nd floor unit during our East Cape drive. It was very clean with great water pressure in the shower & a small kitchen. Marija does everything (check you in , cook & serves food, clean) and was friendly and interesting to talk to. She is a "tell you like it is " person which we throughly enjoyed! Take the short walk to the rugged bay. There's very little amenities or places to stay in the area so we felt lucky to have delicious food(dinner & breakfast). And relative to the prior reviews about the road in to the property being rough - it's not owned by the hotel, and yes it's narrow & needs work but the whole cape has had many weather events & many rugged roads left to do. It is fine , no worse than the curvy roads in Spain or Italy; just take your time, try not to do it at night, and be rewarded at the end with a nice stay!

What a fantastic experience on the outskirts of earth. We caught our fish on the rocks and the owner cooked the fish for us beautifully with a salad as an entre. The rooms are fantastic clean and well-maintained. Shall we call it our little love nest? We will be back again with much more relaxation. Well done to the team of people running a good ship where you are so far away from resources. Your hard work is noticed. Thank you once again for an awesome weekend.

Such an idyllic spot and not to far off the main east coast road. Very clean and fresh units facing the coastal view. Motel access for fishing and snorkeling are a great asset. Host is very helpful and obviously very committed to ensuring you have a positive stay. Not sure how she does everything and keeps smiling! Really appreciated fresh lillies in the room nice touch and scent. Having the ability to eat at the restaurant is a real bonus if you don’t want to self cater. Wifi was abit patchy but enough to stay in touch with the ‘outside world’. Another lovely and refreshing stay.

We loved this place. We booked two rooms; my wife and I were accompanied on our travels by my sister and we had such a pleasant stay with plenty of space to chill out. Food was delicious and hospitality excellent. Our room was clean and spacious, and afforded magnificent views over the ocean. Obviously a hit with holiday makers and fishers. Would love to come back one day. Thank you so much.

Awesome place to stay and unwind. Very clean and tidy, amazing views, there has been several reviews talking about noise, had a great sleep everyone respectful of there neighbours. Staff very helpful and good to be able to get a meal in restaurant at the end of a long day. Would recommend two nights so you can fish and explore.

The Hostess really has the mostest here. She made us very welcome right from my first enquiry phone call. Very helpful in regards to rise closures or not as the case maybe. We arrived a little early, which was no problem, and we were made to feel very comfortable right off. Our room was very comfy and had an awesome view. Our meal was scrumptious. It was definitely worth stopping here on our trip around the East Cape. We will definitely go back when visit the area next.
