I concur with previous reviews that this motel is in dire need of some renovation. I also acknowledge that it is under new management.
Despite my having booked through one of the attached internet booking agents associated with this property on tripadvisor and advising them that I wanted two separate rooms for two separate guests ,each with a dog, all of this information appears to have not been passed on to the motel. While no fault of the Motel, and accommodation was made possible, the attitude of the receptionist upon arrival, left me feeling that all of the oversight was entirely my fault. Not a very inviting or warm welcome.
Having been given a key, flimsily attached with a piece of thin wire (which soon came apart on numerous occasions), and an incorrect television remote, I was dispatched to my room.
Upon entry, one is confronted by a very dirty carpet, dated furnishings (which included an old table with a broken leg, and a refrigerator that took me a long time to be convinced that it was working), and bench tops that were so badly stained that first I mistook them for being just plain dirty.
The rear door opened into a very unkempt communal backyard that had clearly not been maintained for some considerable time and was the dumping ground for innumerable cigarette butts.
The quilt on one of the beds was also badly stained.
A less than complete guest note folder, was full of dire warnings about how the guest will be charged for any losses or damage incurred (despite many items already missing), and a mention that they have “allocated rooms” for pet owners. I did wonder if this meant that the owners of pets were therefore “allocated” the worst of the rooms the Motel. Later I was to find out that I was NOT in a room allocated as “dog friendly”. So perhaps there are worse (or better) units than the one I had.
I stayed at this motel for five nights, and during that time the room servicing was extremely erratic. Sometimes the coffee and milk was replaced whereas at other times it was not. Bath Towels were always replaced, but this ranged in being supplied with between one to four towels at a time. Face cloths were never replaced, and hand towels only twice.Neither was the bed ever made, bathroom ever cleaned or carpet vacuumed for the entire period I stayed there.
On the positive side, the Motel is close to a major shopping centre, and the motorway, which allows for quick access to other parts of Auckland. It is also very close to public transport systems.
Another positive is the price, but I am not entirely convinced that this compensates for the current condition of the room.
Will be asking aa travel for a full refund.
If staying at this motel, I advise to phone ahead to make sure they have you booked in
Reasonable size, a double and a single bed. Excellent shower! Noisy as near the elevated section of a major route. Staff were all friendly 😊
Easy bus routes to central Auckland, easy walk to nearby restaurants etc
We wanted somewhere cheap but functional - that's what we got!!
It was a more affordable alternative for us rather than City CBD accommodation on a Saturday night but still being very close and easily accessible to the CBD.
We had a very efficient check in, staff were friendly and helpful. Really appreciate the very quick efforts in fixing minor issues that we had. Overall, I’d say a nice place to book for a night or 2. Will be sure to come back again in the future. Thank you for your Hospitality Motel 80 🙂
I was booked on a business trip by my company. Pleasant enough reception, although I had to come back to reception to ask about internet - most places mention it first thing.
The hotel is being repainted, so the exterior was a garish mixture of the old pinky red, and a new mud colour. The units are old and tired. I had an upstairs unit, weakling up creaky wooden stairs and along creaky wooden balcony.
The room had no kitchenette, which is pretty standard in this type of hotel/motel in NZ
The decor was old and tired. The bathroom vanity had a broken drawer, peeling paint on the taps and towel rail, no blind on the window. Also water damaged at bottom of the vanity, with peeling laminate and cigarette burn to top. In fact, cigarette burns in several places within unit.
I had a cockroach on the wall.
The room had beds for three - but only one chair. The table was old with cracking paint. There was no form of heating/cooling, although signs of a heater having been torn off the wall.
The hotel backs onto the motorway and the railway - so sometimes noisy.
No compendium in room or other useful information.
Did not try the bar/cafe.
At $135 per night, this is overpriced and of very poor quality for a business trip.
Just to name a few problems we experienced while staying here ...
1. The owner paraded into my room while I was taking an afternoon nap (WITHOUT KNOCKING) to then greet me with "no ones supposed to be in here. Are you sick?". I then said no and explained that I had been checked into this room. Her blunt response was "well I need to change the blankets" with no apology and continued to do just that!
2. My sisters and I asked the new receptionist for the 'free' internet password only to be accused of not checking in and told that our names are not in their system. After showing her our reservation confirmation and the room key she then gave us the password but failed to apologize.
3. A cleaner walked into our room (without permission) while we were taking another needed afternoon nap - we were out all morning so she could have done it then... But what really made me angry was the fact that she was being very loud while completing her tasks and decided to answer a personal phone call while my younger sisters were trying to sleep.
4. On check out we were asked for our credit card details AGAIN (we had already it given them on check in and when making the booking) and they still had no record of us checking in!
I am far from a fussy guest and pride myself in the fact that I am a "the cup is half full" person... but I honestly would have preferred to stay in a tent. Do NOT stay here.
