This is the starting point of our trip to North Island of New Zealand during Christmas of 2019. We reached the apartment around 10 PM on 25th December. There was someone in the reception. After check-in had to park the rental car. Three are two levels in basement car park. The basement 2 car park access by steep downward sloping passage. They charge $ 35 per night for the car park in addition to the room charge. The car park is also very tight. But there was lift access from car park to the room level. We got a room on level 2, which has got hardly any view.
We booked one bedroom suite for 3 nights. The apartment is really tiny. There was not much space in the lounge/kitchen after putting 2 suitcase and 2 cabin bags. The kitchen is with electric cook top, fridge, microwave and a small dishwasher. The cooking utensils, cups, plates and glasses are very limited. We had to ask for a fry pan from the hotel staff. The carpet near kitchen is full of spots and look dirty. The shower and toilet area is small but OK. The mattress is quite soft and wobbly. The free wi-fi is of good speed but with limited download capacity. The TV has standard free to air channels which are with good picture quality but the Sky Sports channel come under separate input and were grainy The location of this facility is bit far from the city centre but there are few Asian restaurant and few convenience stores nearby. The hotel staff is friendly. Overall the apartment is OK and average.

This hotel stop, 2 nights, was part of a much larger package so I have no idea if it was good value for money or not. But, if the price was right, I would be more than happy to stay here again. It was comfy, clean, and quiet.

In terms of location it sits at the top end of Queen Street making it very central for some serious shopping and a good variety of restaurants (although the ones closest to the hotel offered mainly Asian food). There is a little supermarket over the road - ideal for snacks and drinks. The skybus stopped right opposite so it was very easy for getting to the airport.

All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was more than adequate. I ate in the restaurant on my 2nd night and was highly impressed with the quality (and quantity!) of the dinner menu. Really good!

We stayed there for 1+2 nights and while we were away on a cruise we were able to leave some of our luggage there.I would especially like to mention Karan one of the receptionists who was extremely helpful and kind.
The hotel is well situated for visiting Auckiand and if you want to avoid the steep walk to and from the hotel there is a good "red bus" which stops just outside the hotel and only costs $ NZ 1.
The restaurant is reasonably priced and we ordered room service so we were able to drink our own bottle of wine !!!!!
My only criticism would be that the carpets in the room are in need of a thorough clean.

Having only two days in Auckland we wanted conveniently located accommodation at a reasonable price. This hotel met our expectations for comfort and convenience. The room and bathroom were both clean.
The hotel offers parking for a fee which added $35 per day to the tariff.
It's an easy walk down into the CBD with a long, slight, uphill return.
There are restaurants close by that appear to cater for the students who attend the adjacent University of Otago.
We would stay here again if in Auckland, and try not to leave the phone charger next time.

This is the first time I have stayed at VR Queen, having often stayed at other more well known brands on previous stays in Auckland .

With a location at the top end of Queen the location is quiet enough to relax while close enough to K Street and the centre of Auckland if you are happy to walk for 10 minutes.

Very much an apartment style hotel VR offers both standard studio rooms (with cooking) and larger apartment style rooms for those sharing or wanting to have space with larger families.

Offering exceptional value (under $100 for a studio) you won’t find much better value so central to the city.

Staff were attentive, assisting with matters and the restaurant offers a cost effective breakfast option for those who want to eat before heading out.

Rooms were tidy and clean, without being too end they offer great value for money.

Like most inner city hotels parking is limited. In house parking only has certain amount of spaces with a 24 hour Wilson park across the road offering an alternative at $18 per night.

Definitely not for you if you are seeking an high end hotel. But is perfect for those wanting space and a reasonable price. (Not often something you get with inner city accomodation)

Would highly recommend for both solo business travellers and families who place a premium on space.

I have travelled to Auckland many times on overnight trips. The VR was the best hotel I have stayed at among those that have a $100ish per room per night, rate. The room was a good size (for central Auckland) with a reasonable sized bathroom and complete kitchen. The room was clean, staff were very helpful and attentive and check out times were flexible. The location is central and a bus stop for the Skybus to the airport is directly across the road.
The hotel is not luxury but I would highly recommend it to those looking for a clean, spacious, modern room in central Auckland. The VR has certainly become my 'go to' hotel for quick trips.

This hotel is misleading.

Advertised as full kitchen. The knobs have been removed from the oven and there are no pots and pans so it is physically impossible to use the facilities.

Stains on the bedding. Bed making was sloppy and despite offering daily room cleaning, the bed was only made some days.

Shower was very poor. Either thermonuclear or Luke warm. 70% of the water was in one direction with the rest of the water spraying around the room. No extractor in the bathroom.

The bathroom is separated from the room with a frosted glass wall. Not great if you have more than one person using the room.

There was a very unusual odour throughout the place. It smelt like they were covering up an offensive smell with an overdose of air freshener.

Rooms were not sound proof. Could hear the tv and people talking in the room next door.

The door into the hallway sits about 5cm off the ground so there is a solid beam of bright light coming into the room all night.

Swipe card stopped working mid stay so couldn’t get into my room. No apology offered.

Plugged my charger into the bedside electrical socket and sparks flew out.

I would not book to stay here again.

We booked our stay with VR Queen street through Expedia , booking two premium king rooms I had high expectations , upon arrival the staff were very friendly and helpful , seamless check in and one of the very few hotels that allow smoking right outside (designated smoking area)

My hopes were soon dashed when we got to our rooms to find stained carpet , taps not fixed properly to the benches and inadequate seating to watch the television. There was also a very foul smell on the first floor for most of the time we were there! When I spoke to reception about this they said there was nothing they could do , which was fine as it didn’t smell in the rooms , I was letting them know out of courtesy.

The next morning I took my complaints further to reception , and they said they would get housekeeping to check it out and could possibly move our rooms, We were by this point just over it , and decided to check out a day early and find alternate accommodation.

Overall the place just needs an update , new carpet etc as this is not what a 4 star hotel is meant to be.
I must say though that the staff are very lovely and friendly 😁

We stayed in a 2-bedroom suite for our quick Auckland getaway. The room was clean, has a great view of Queen St. and you have everything you need.

It has 2 rooms which if I am not mistaken both have King Beds, shower & toilet, fully equipped kitchen (yes, you got it right! It has stove, microwave, electric kettle, plates, bowls, cups, coffee&tea setup, mini fridge, etc.), dining table&chairs and a TV. Both rooms have closet and one room has a safety deposit box.

Location wise, I give 10 out of 10. Why? It is in the heart of Queen St. where all the life of a getaway begins (malls, restaurants, etc.). Plus, it is also a jump off point of buses. Literally few steps away from bus stops. But what I loved the most is, pretty much, you can just walk around without worrying where to park (well, parking in Auckland is expensive and very hard to find a spot).

Moreover, the staff who assisted us during check in is very accommodating. 😊

Room was very basic not an issue but was very dirty. There was long black hair stuck to the shower walls. There was black mould and mildew on the shower walls. The white towels had stains on them. Also the A/c unit was covered in dust and blew dorty and dust onto the bed as we sleep. Will not be returning. We paid for breakfast included and was informed when we arrived that the restaurant was permanently closed so no breakfast available. Not impressed with the service at all. There is so much better for this price in Auckland.
