The most appealing thing about this place was the location, it is extremely central and just off queen street so it is perfect if you are needing something very close to venues or just want to explore town. The downside about this place is it’s not very up to date, we stayed in a twin studio and it didn’t look like the pictures we saw online which was to be expected, but it was very outdated and rundown. The walls, underside of kitchen cabinet, and curtains were dirty, as well as one of our bed base’s having stains on it. The room in general didn’t feel clean and the floor felt dirty and sticky which wasn’t very comforting. When checking in we didn’t receive instructions as to how to use the door keys which was initially fine, until we found out you needed to know how to use them in order to make the elevator work. The two elevators they had for 18 floors were extremely inconsistent, leaving us 10+ minutes waiting for the elevator to come down to the ground floor. At times one of them wouldn’t even open, with a fellow customer complaining about having been stuck in the elevator for fifteen minutes. We didn’t initially mind as we were only on level two and thought we could just walk up the stairs, but they kept the doors to the levels locked. For $179 for one night which we booked almost a year in advance, I wouldn’t recommend this place. If it was around $110-$130 for a night maybe I could justify the rundown state and lack of cleanliness, but the beds weren’t comfortable and it was very small for two people as well as lacking basic things like hand soap which was just odd lol. Good location, but it was a basic, outdated room that definitely needs a scrub.

Dear Sheeph2024, Thank you for choosing to stay at ibis budget Auckland Central. I appreciate you taking the time to complete an online review. We take pride in creating a rewarding experience for our guests, with particular focus on our service, facilities and overall experience, therefore it is disappointing to read that we have not quite met your expectations during your stay. Rest assured that the Head Housekeeper has been informed of your comment regarding the cleanliness of the room and she has spoken to her entire team since to remind them of the importance of immaculate cleaning, without singling out the room attendant on your floor. I do apologise for the shortcomings during your stay and I am certain you will find this issue rectified if you return. Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. The team and I truly look forward to once again welcoming you back to ibis budget Auckland Central in the near future where there will always be a warm welcome awaiting your arrival. A no-frills hotel in which we were only staying for 2 nights as we were travelling on from Auckland. Overall it was an average experience. Room is small which isn't an issue, we expected that for the price paid however room was mostly clean except along the side of the bed where the window/balcony is. Perhaps due to the size of the room and the size of the bed, the bed cannot be moved in order to vacuum that section of the carpet which has built up dirt from numerous previous occupants.

What made the budget hotel feel below average is the fact that it looks like a shell of its former self. Cabinetry slot in the bathroom for maybe when they used to have washing machine or something there now it just looks unsightly. There is a little kitchenette which we didn't use, front desk staff may be able to provide basic utensils and cutlery.

The lobby also delivers the same feel, with the front desk staff working in an unused bar/kitchen area. Despite the echoing feeling that ambience creates, staff were friendly and attentive. There are great budget hotels and there are bad budget hotels, Ibis Budget Auckland Central unfortunately falls below average.

In the lobby, there are also tea/coffee facilities.

The hotel is in a great location central location but the hot plate doesn’t work and even if it did there is no cookware or bowls ect only a cup and a spoon in the room. The wifi is really spotty too and kept constantly dropping out. The room was very clean though.

This budget hotel is in a great location & the staff were very helpful & friendly. However, the 2 double rooms I stayed in were quite small. The 2nd room was so small that I would recommend it only for someone traveling solo. The bed was comfortable, water was hot & even though others stated they had a smell in the room I had no offensive smell in either room I booked. The rooms were very clean but the metal drain on floor of shower was loose in both rooms. One of my rooms had a microwave & stove top both had a refrigerator & kettle. Anything you need like utensils & pots you could ask for at the front desk. The rooms were bright due to a window & slider. The balcony was basically non existent as you couldn't really step out. I chose this hotel for the location & for me it was perfect. No restaurant in this hotel but there is a cafe next door & down the block & a great Countdown grocery store about a 10 min walk. Waterfront is maybe a 15min walk & Sky Tower ~10mins. FYI most stores except the grocery close early ~6pm so do your shopping early.

We booked this hotel for 3 nights back in Feb as soon as we had secured our tickets for Pearl Jam and decided to make a 3 night weekend of it. We are solvent enough to afford better, but if you’re here for an event, intend to be out other than to sleep and really just need a cheap, secure and central place to crash with your own bathroom, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this hotel.

I think a lot of the reviews on here are very unfair and are judging it against the wrong criteria. With flights, ticket prices and 3 days of spending, our criteria was cheap, central, safe and this ticks all the boxes. It was the cheapest hotel we could find, we were able to check in a couple of hours early, and we’ve had no problems. For context, we are mid 50s and have stayed in all sorts of accommodation from shared hostel rooms to really very nice hotels. This is not a 5 star hotel but for what it advertises, it’s fine and I will definitely stay here again next time I come for a concert.

My advice is to read the reviews with your own needs in mind, don’t just see the low scores and run a mile. If you have a ton of luggage, this probably isn’t the place for you. Likewise if you’re here for a week and want to fully unpack. But with carry on luggage for a few nights, it’s great.

Before arriving I read some of these reviews and was quite alarmed and concerned. However when I get there I had no issues at all. It was small (but of course it was as it was very cheap for an epic location and it’s budget accomodation) but there was room both sides of the bed, room in the kitchenette area and room in the bathroom (albeit a little small for the shower). Everything was clean, the staff were helpful and I found it really quiet despite being central city. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed. There was also a small balcony with a nice view.

Not recommending to anyone. And housekeeping is terrible.. i went outside and asked i let receptionist know that send housekeeping to clean my room, I came after 2 hours to my room and the room was still dirty and I asked reception she told housekeeping left.. I don't normally write a review for anywhere I stay unless it's exceptional. I felt inclined to leave one here as after reading the reviews I was wondering what I'd encounter.

I'm 3 months into a world backpacking experience. I needed cheap digs with a car park in Auckland and this fitted the requirements.

I've regularly stayed in the ibis hounslow budget in the UK and stayed for a week in the ibis budger Gras so have some experience of the brand.

The ibis budgets aren't in the best areas. If they were you'd pay more.

The room I've got on the 16th floor is clean and functional. I love the patio windows with the views over the city. I was surprised to see coffee, kettle and fridge in my room.

The bathroom is a lot bigger than the UK ibis budget hotels. I was able to leave the heater on whilst I went out and came back to a warm and comfortable room.

The staff have been extremely helpful.

The price is really good. I'm the 1st night into a 2 night stay. I was genuinely pleasantly surprised with my room, after reading the reviews I was feeling apprehensive.

Happy customer.

It is a budget hotel, but better organised than the more expensive ones I stayed in around Auckland. It had a manned reception desk and offered a tourism brochure section for travelers. There was a water dispenser in the lobby. I found my room had the usual facilities, but they worked and the compact size made it easy to get around. the location was three blocks from Britomart station and the same distance from the Intercity bus terminal at Sky City
