A no-frills hotel in which we were only staying for 2 nights as we were travelling on from Auckland. Overall it was an average experience. Room is small which isn't an issue, we expected that for the price paid however room was mostly clean except along the side of the bed where the window/balcony is. Perhaps due to the size of the room and the size of the bed, the bed cannot be moved in order to vacuum that section of the carpet which has built up dirt from numerous previous occupants.
What made the budget hotel feel below average is the fact that it looks like a shell of its former self. Cabinetry slot in the bathroom for maybe when they used to have washing machine or something there now it just looks unsightly. There is a little kitchenette which we didn't use, front desk staff may be able to provide basic utensils and cutlery.
The lobby also delivers the same feel, with the front desk staff working in an unused bar/kitchen area. Despite the echoing feeling that ambience creates, staff were friendly and attentive. There are great budget hotels and there are bad budget hotels, Ibis Budget Auckland Central unfortunately falls below average.
In the lobby, there are also tea/coffee facilities.
I think a lot of the reviews on here are very unfair and are judging it against the wrong criteria. With flights, ticket prices and 3 days of spending, our criteria was cheap, central, safe and this ticks all the boxes. It was the cheapest hotel we could find, we were able to check in a couple of hours early, and we’ve had no problems. For context, we are mid 50s and have stayed in all sorts of accommodation from shared hostel rooms to really very nice hotels. This is not a 5 star hotel but for what it advertises, it’s fine and I will definitely stay here again next time I come for a concert.
My advice is to read the reviews with your own needs in mind, don’t just see the low scores and run a mile. If you have a ton of luggage, this probably isn’t the place for you. Likewise if you’re here for a week and want to fully unpack. But with carry on luggage for a few nights, it’s great.

Ibis Budget charged me $200 per night, I have stayed in better backpackers for $20 per night. Tiny room, shower cum toilet is way past its sell by date and there is no cooking utensil's to use the mini kitchen
I'm 3 months into a world backpacking experience. I needed cheap digs with a car park in Auckland and this fitted the requirements.
I've regularly stayed in the ibis hounslow budget in the UK and stayed for a week in the ibis budger Gras so have some experience of the brand.
The ibis budgets aren't in the best areas. If they were you'd pay more.
The room I've got on the 16th floor is clean and functional. I love the patio windows with the views over the city. I was surprised to see coffee, kettle and fridge in my room.
The bathroom is a lot bigger than the UK ibis budget hotels. I was able to leave the heater on whilst I went out and came back to a warm and comfortable room.
The staff have been extremely helpful.
The price is really good. I'm the 1st night into a 2 night stay. I was genuinely pleasantly surprised with my room, after reading the reviews I was feeling apprehensive.
Happy customer.
