Despite the problems, the hotel is very nice and comfortable. It's also very secure with keycard access required just to get into the hallways, and a room safe. The rooms have all the facilities you'd want and probably more (including a good kitchen and a washer/dryer). You could not get more central in the CBD, the Centre Point Tower is right next door. If you don't have a car, and you just want to be in the middle of Auckland and all its happenings, then this would be a great place to hang out.
Our one-bedroom apartment (only cost NZ$10 more than a studio) was well-equipped with washing machine, stove, fridge, microwave, etc. More importantly, the apartment was very clean and, as a bonus, was also attactive.
Parking was somewhat inconvenient. If your room rate includes parking, please ensure that you know what you are paying for. Our room rate, which includes parking, does not allow for in and out privilages which mean that we have to incur additional parking charges during the day when we use the car. Parking is also inconvenient as it is located in a parkade that is not attached to the hotel and is located about one to two hundred metres from it.
As this is a "heritage building", the apartment sound -proofing is not that good and some of you may be affected by the street noices = sirens, cars, etc.
On arriving to our allocated room we immediately asked to be moved to a room across the other side of the corridor as the smell from the expel-air system used by the Stables Restaurant filled the room. Had we not been able to move this smell would have driven me mad. The Restaurants run well into the night and even with the windows shut it permeated the room.
Midweek a room facing the street is reasonably noisy but if you are a light sleeper I suspect the weekend would be intolerable. A definite need for earplugs.
Entrance literally on the corner of the block and reception up a flight of stairs. First impressions were a very nicely furnished hotel. Receptionist very friendly, too.
Apartment was unbelievable. For the rate we paid (£39 per night via wotif.com), I would never have expected such facilities. Apartment with full kitchen facilities (down to cheese grater!) and adjoining living area with leather sofa and TV & stereo. Separate bedroom with loads of storage space and safe, and separate bathroom with a washing machine and tumble dryer in it! All tastefully decorated.
Location brilliant too. A short walk to shops and to ferry building (15min) for tourist bus tours.
I would recommend this accommodation to anyone travelling to Auckland.
Despite being right in town it wasn't noisy and the open plan room worked perfectly.
Yes this place is a bit pricey but in my view well worth it to get something a little different.
There is a little heater and fans provided but no central heating or air con.
Only a couple of negatives - one rather rude receptionist (but was countered by very helpful colleague) and on a Friday night, was very noisy - music blaring and car alarms. The original windows are charming but not very sound proof. Perhaps not one for young children at weekends!

"I stayed in room 217 which was fine! View wasn't much though as it looked out over the car park where a truck came to pick up all the bottles but it wasn't late so didn't disturb or interupt my sleep!"Read full review
"Don't stay on the Wellesley st. side, the pedestrian beeping will keep you up all night. There is no view from anywhere in the hotel and if you're in the cheaper rooms it's quite noisy."Read full review
