Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This an historic house run as a B&B by a caring owner who makes you feel at home. It is not a hotel with all the facilities you expect but it has charm and a helpful owner who goes out of his way to make your stay enjoyable. It is in a nice area only a short walk uphill from the coast and main shops.

John was so helpful and so interested in us having a really good time in his B&B Location is really central and free parking is a big advantage in Auckland. John gave us a very generous breakfast of fresh fruit salad and cereals, yogurts and toast, followed by a delicious cooked breakfast with filter coffee or tea . Free tea and coffee making facilities are available throughout your stay Complimentary wine as well !

A charming bed and breakfast in an older Auckland building. We rented the victorian suite which was quite large and well furnished. The tub and toilet are not totally private but the shared bathroom was just next door and readily available. Breakfasyt was great, fresh fruit, yogurt, toast, cereal, juice and hot eggs and bacon prepared to your liking. John, the host, was extremely helpful and we enjoyed conversations with him. The location is great, about 10-15 minute to downtown or the domain. We walked to most places and took an Uber back (8.8o NZD or under 5 USD) to get home because it is mostly uphill back.

If you like to have character in your B&B this is the place to stay, the building is a great example of the early architecture of Auckland. Ideally located, within walking distance of many of Auckland's key sites. The Braemar comes with its own character in John, the owner, who made us very welcome. John is a fountain of knowledge, both about the lovely building, and the history of Auckland. We spent several hours in the evening talking to John, and other guests, over complementary wines. We felt part of the family, and Tiny Tina, the miniature poodle loved being cuddled by us. A good breakfast set us up for the day. We will certainly stay here again.

We felt very welcomed in this lovely accommodation. John is a warm-hearted host, who takes care of his guests! Also it’s close to the lively city center and you just go like 15 minutes to the viaduct harbour, where are many bars anf restaurants.

Once again, thanks to John and Mel for hosting us, genuinely welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Add in the beautiful old house and you’ve an absolute winner. We stayed in the Batten Suite, two joined rooms with an ensuite bathroom, perfect for either business travelers who need extra space, or a family travelling together. Highly recommend.

The building is as awesome as the owner. The building use to have apartments in them and were converted into beautiful rooms with respect to the history of the house. John was very helpful and friendly. Usually I’m not a fan of B&B because I feel an intruder. You can have the hotel feeling but John makes it very easy to engage and likes telling you about Auckland and the history of the building. Let’s you use his card for public transport and helped us out with a delivery gone wrong. Highly recommended!
